New to buggies, but not nitro RC. Question
I currently have a race car and a Monster Truck, but now I am looking to get a RTR buggy. I want to spend less than $500. I am thinking of these 3. What are your opinions?
1. Associated RC8
2. Losi 8ight
3. Hofna (there are too many with numbers like 7, 9... confusing) which Ofna is the one I might want.
Two hobby shops in my area carry Associated stuff, so I'm leaning towards it. What do you think?
I am looking for a durable buggy, I don't plan on racing, but might in the future. I like to jump a lot too. Thanks.

RE: New to buggies, but not nitro RC. Question
Well, from the track it seems like the RC8 isnt very durable. Most people who have them have a bunch of mods and aluminum on them. The 8ight is great, but the 1.0 is hard to find and getting expensive now, and the 2.0 rtr is $650 but comes with everything you need to get into racing. The Hyper 7 TQ Black would be a good basher, and cheap.

The Ofna Hyper 7 is like $300, and the others are about $500. Is the Ofna less durable? I wouldn't mind saving a couple hunred bucks, but not if it's of lesser quality.

my ofna jammins are tanks. only broke one once hitting the pole in the center of our track. was an a arm. nice thing about them is there is no left or right arm, so if i break the same side i dont need to buy a new pair.

Ofna FTW. I had a ravager and it worked great and now I have a brushless Hyper 8 Pro . Fun buggies. I literally jumped the ravager 20+ feet in the air with no ill effects.

RE: New to buggies, but not nitro RC. Question
I just got into Buggies too, and picked up an OFNA Ultra MBX, and then and Ultra LX roller, and built my own FrankenOFNA out of the two, and all told am impressed with how durable it turned out! I was launching it down a hill that dropped at least a hundred feet down, a real steep slope, last weekend and it was awesome, just as sturdy as my Traxxas SLayer as far as jumping! the only hang up is the damn OFNA force .32 engine I have won't hold a tune for crap, so I am getting ready to replace it with the 8port Axial .32... Point is this despite what some people say, OFNAs are pretty solid vehicles at a very affordable price! 2 things about OFNAs though is that you will want to change the steering servo, and probably save up and get a better engine...

RE: New to buggies, but not nitro RC. Question
I agree, the OFNAs are awesome. I've had my hyper 7 for a couple of months now, and I haven't broken a single part ( knock on wood....lol...) but I would definetly recomend it to anyone. Oh by the way...djzachtyler, I have the axial .28 scec 1s in my hyper 7, and believe me, it's all the power you'll ever need. Heck the .28 is over kill actually, it'll spin all 4 tires like crazy. I really wouldn't recomend the .32. it'll drink fuel like crazy and you'll spin out like crazy too. It's hard to keep my buggy going straight, actually I'm thinking about putting my largest reducer in the carb to drop the low end take off a little.

Thanks guys, I am pretty sure I will end up with the Hyper 7 now. I have to wait until payday though. I can't wait.

RE: New to buggies, but not nitro RC. Question
The Hyper is an Ok club racer. In its day that was a top of the line
ride, but the RC8 will be a more competetive car.
Onfa is not a manufactuer, just an importer. The Hyper series cars
are competittion worthy rigs while the Ultras, Ravangers, and MBX
series are a major step down in quality from either the hypers or
a Pro level kit.
An RC8 would be a good choice as long as you understand that
there are alot of crappy electronics and cheapo engines packaged
with RTR cars. Eventually you will end up replacing everthing but
the chassis and it will cost more than if you just built a team kit.
Chris_RC is living in the past, the few minor teething problems the
RC8 had have been worked out a long time ago. Every car has there
weak points , Pro level kits just have a lot less.

RE: New to buggies, but not nitro RC. Question
From my small amount of internet searching, I don't think I can get a 1/8 buggy kit that is going to cost me less than $500 to start out (including engine and electronics). I am trying to find the very best buggy that would be under my $500 max. My LHS has the RC8 for $499. And I by all means can not go over $500. Heck... I bet my wife is thinking I am spending 250. But I won't tell her if you don't.

RE: New to buggies, but not nitro RC. Question
I'm sorry but Cris Rc is right. RC8 is
fragile. Ae got a lot of very very very good car but, the rc8 and
the RC8T are not one of them.
Losi 8ight rtr (1.0 or 2.0) comes with big bore shok, better shaft and cvd.
If you decide to race your better wait one or two more pay check and get a 8ight 2.0
it come with every tings you need. Race ready, You just have
to put you jr 590 on the trottle and buy a new one (like a ace 1015) for
the steering. Put some 5k silicone on your diff, and your good
for the finals
Hyper 7 is a tank, for bashing it's good but it's not a racer.

RE: New to buggies, but not nitro RC. Question
My personal choice, given what you've said, would definitely be the OFNA Hyper 7, or OFNA Hyper 7 - Black. In either form, it is a great and durable buggy, and a downright bargain, if not steal, at the price. Regardless of which RTR you get you should also order a metal gear, high torque servo to replace the steering servo when it goes - and any RTR's steering servo is going to go sooner or later.

RE: New to buggies, but not nitro RC. Question
Yea, that's what I'm thinking too. The Hyper 7 is inexpensive and if I do get into racing later down the road I could race it for a while and then get a better buggy if I feel like it is a need.
Thanks a lot for all your input. It helped me decide. I am going to get the Hyper 7 Black. This buggy will allow me a little extra money so I can get a 2.4ghz radio too.
Thank you.
