I just moved to a new home and I'm setting up a work area in the gargage. Does anyone have a good way to hang or mount buggies and trucks on a rack or on the wall? Photos would be apprecated as well.

I just had an idea. A simple "L" bracket on the wall with a 18" 1x4 board mounted on it perpendicular to wall should do the job quite well to hold one RC.

Gee why didn't I think of that? Really...I appreciate the quick response, but if it were just a shelf I was looking for, I wouldn’t have wasted the post. Let me be slightly clearer:

I have limited "wall" space due to the amount of cabinetry that is "already" on the wall. You see I have tried to put together as complete a work space as possible so consequently I have a 10' run of both lower and "upper" cabinets that are to be used for both everyday tools (wood working & mechanical) and RC work. Couple that with a large rack filled with hand power tools and the other normal garage/yard tools, and "wall space" is pretty much used up on the back of this 2 car garage.

Having said that what I meant to say was that I am looking for something more unique such as maybe a vertical rack with narrow shelves mounted at a 45 degree angle and a hook of some sort so the cars could stack up the rack and be lifted on and off easily when needed while using not more wall space than the width of a single car. Making something like that out of wood was my first idea, but I just thought that "maybe" with all the "experience" out there in the RC world and this being one of the best RC forums I’ve seen, that someone "just might" have a better idea other than a SHELF! DUH!

I don't think I was clear enough (pics would help). Imagine the boad sticking straight out from the wall instead of running beside the wall. I think I might actually try this today, maybe I'll get some pics for you.

The "L"s were $4 each and the board was $5. Total cost $25 for my four RCs, with careful shopping I bet you could find cheaper materials.

Oh sorry. Didn't meant to be sarcastic. I thouight you were talking about a plain shelf. Yes I just got you picture. That may work well. You see the problem is that I have long stretch of cabinets on the back wall, them I am installing a radiant tube heater on the side wall that is also 10' long, then what is left is the access door to the house and the final wall for rakes, etc. So my 2 car garage is quickly getting smaller.

You could even bolt the L's on a 2x4 to make it more portable.

me, i would get two L-hooks and hang it by the a-arms, like a bike... kind of.

A friend of mine set up a board that hinged at the floor and ran it up to the cealing. It had a pulley And could be lowered. He then placed planter hooks measured with the cars and trucks to give 2 inches between cars. He would run the car out of nitro and then hang the car from the hook at the rear bumper. This allowed him to place cars from the floor to the cealing only using the width of one car. I unfortunately do not have pictures, I will ask him to e-mail some as I moved and he now lives 5 hours away. If the car was too high he would use the pulley rope to lower the plank and it would lower all the cars so he could reach the one he desired to run. To hang you cars like this you need to make sure all the nitro is burned out.  not sure if you already set yours up. I have been away from the boards for a few days.

One thing I've noticed is it keeps the tires from flat spotting if you don't run them for awhile.

I got in touch with him and he got out of the hobby. Even sold the rack. He is looking through photo albums to see if he has any pictures. If not I will draw up a schematic of what he used to have.

Why not just hang it by a peg board? Here is my set up. Hangs right from my peg board with regular 4" pegs. Works like a charm. And, wheels "rest" on the wall, thus not leaving any 'flat' spots on tires. I have been hanging my r/c's like this for years, no problems yet.

Oh, and its cheap too!

I did a little trial mounting of some airplanes, using pegboard brackets from WalMart. They cost me under $2 for a set of 4, enough for 2 planes a set.

I'm with big_poppa49. A peg board works well for me.

John, you should flip your models nose down. Hanging then nose up let's residual oil keep the one way bearing wet.

Interesting. I can swear that I read (on here) the opposite (hanging them nose down is bad). I've not had any problems to-date, but am always open to changing. ;-)  Do any other of you guys hang them nose-up?

I usually don't hang airplanes down, because most of the weight is on the tail feathers and those are easily dented. Also, over time fuel can seep down the crankcase crankshaft bearing and put spooge on the floor or another airplane. Besides, I usually put a shot of afterrun oil in the venturi, which after flipping the prop a dozen times helps to keep it lubricated. Once in a while if I have overdone it, then I might get some dripping of oil out the muffler. It isn't a perfect world.
