Default First Airboat

Hey Guys, I allways wanted a RC Airboat, well at 58 I figured I would build one. I have the hull started. It will be a flatty 40" long 23" wide and 2.5" deep with a step down deck. I have a new CY 27cc engine and a 15x7 3 blade pusher prop. I am waiting for my engine mount, stand and prop hub. I am new to this Forum and Airboats so I am sure I will have alot of questions and can use all the help I can get. I can not get any pictures to download here but I was able to download some into the boat section under Wind Spirit. Thanks WS

Thanks, Well again I tried to download more pics but my internet sucks so I also lost everything I just typed. I will try to send more pics later. The only skin I could find was 1/8" oak that you use on cabinets from Home Depot. The frame is 1/4" Poplar from Lowes. I used 5min. Epoxy and Titebond III for glue. It is not marine grade ply so I will open the seams to make sure all edges get glued good. I hope this will give it a pin stripe look. All for now. WS

I am trying to think of the best way to mount my engine stand, any thoughts? I dont know what you call them but I have seen a half screw-half bolt that I may use but I want it to be stainless. Anyone know where I can find this in SS? Thanks WS

Update, The bolts are called Hanger Bolts. I found them in stainless steel at McFeely's on line. You can get them in a box of ten. I will use these to mount everything to the boat. They will screw in and I can seal them leaving only the machine thread part exposed. WS

Got my cage yesterday. It was custom built by Mr. Burch of http://mudmasher-airboats.com, just as the engine stand, mount, and prophub, very nice work. Looks Great, got some paint on the cage today. Now I can tell where I need to add more wood for mounting the cage and rudders. I will try to post more pictures as soon as I can. WS

Up date, I know it has been a long time but I am back to work on my boat. Putting the top skin on today. It took a long time to make sure I had all the backing wood I would need in the frame. I will post more pictures soon. I have some stickers to put on my rudders, does anyone know what kind of clear I can spray over them so they do not peel off? I also have a name for my boat now which is" Southern Style". Thanks WS

That boat looks like you really have some awesome woodworking skills. Everything nice and even.
Those CY engines really put out a lot of power for their size.

I suppose you could use a rattle can clear coat to cover the stickers, but if they are vinyl stickers, they should hold up without a top coat.

Did you seal the wood on the inside of the hull?

Yep, I painted everything inside with titebond III, after that I used liquid nails to stick the ply. I will use Famowood Glaze coat epoxy resin on the outside after I stain the ply, at least on the bottom and sides. The top I may use poly spray. The stickers are vinyl, I would like to spray something over them because of all the wind and water thatwill hit the rudders. Thanks WS
