Default Servos

I have seen on many airboats the servos are outisde the waterproof container. How do you waterproof a servo so you can put it outside?

I run my servos mainly untreated..it takes just a moment to change servos with my set up.

Some ways to waterproof are to dip them in "Plasti-Dip" or "Rubberize-it". Some may even pull the backs off the servo and pack them with lithium grease, which would be my recommendation. I have used "Plasti-Dip" a couple of times and had a problem with the product hampering the servo speed, seems like some got into the servo shaft and caused some restriction.

FYI: You can purchase servos that already "water resistant" They have rubber o-ring seals. I believe Futaba sells some models. Not sure of any other manufacturers but check around. I use JR servos almost exclusivly and have never had a problem with moisture.

Hope that helps,
Pete

Up 'til now I haven't had any trouble with water in my servos. They are all inside in what I thought was a waterproof compartment. When I did the job on Windy by hitting a rock it cracked the hull at the chine. When I looked inside a day or two later there was water. Both servos are now dead ducks. If I were to try to waterproof a servo I would disassemble it and put heavy grease where all the parts join before reassembling. My switch is deck mounted with a plastic cover that is available from Tower as a Kyosho Fairwind 900 spare part. Antenna no problem, RX and battery protected in little watertight boxes. New servos mounted 1/4" above the bottom.
