BIG SWOMP BUGGY NEEDS SPEED
HI. I JUST GOT A BIG SWOMP BUGGY WITH A OS 40 FP ON IT,& I WAS VERY DISAPOINTED, I HAVE 8 CAR & TRUCKS, BUT I'M NEW TO BOATS, & PLANE ENGINES, I'M RUNNING IT 250,260 F. TO GET A LITTLE MORE OUT OF IT. COULD SOMEONE TELL ME A GOOD ENGINE TO REPLACE IT WITH? I REALY LIKE THE AIR BOAT SETUP, I CAN SEE I WOULD HAVE ALOT OF FUN WITH IT IF IT WAS ABOUT 3 TIMES FASTER!!! THANKS TERRY.

SuperTiger makes a good engine for the buck. A .61 will help with getting more speed. Depending on how much your willing to spend will decide which motor to use. Most all of the plane engines will work well on the airboats, the main thing to watch for, is if the engine has ball bearings, supporting the crank.

Can you post a picture. Gives us a better understanding of your boat. If it's too heavy you might can go bigger. Look foward in seeing your pics.

I'm all about HP.....
If I remember correctly...this boat (owned by Playtime56), if memory serves me well. This one has a .75 on it.
I never owned this particular boat but hear that it takes a a .61 (or posibly more....depending on how your likr to drive) to get some good performance from it.

HI, THAT ONE IS JUST LIKE MINE, THIS THING MUST BE 10-12 LBS. I WILL POST SOME PHOTOS SOON, I'M PAINTING IT NOW. I MAY GO WITH SOMETHING LARGER THAN A .61 IF I CAN, IT IS HARD ON THAT OS .40,SLOW IN THE WATER, &WILL NOT MOVE ON LAND. THANKS. TERRY.

Have you tryed changing to a higher pich prop?
If your boat is 10-12 lbs a .61 will push it wildly, mine is 9 lb 6.8 oz dry and a .61. I can't get over 3/4 throtle out of it before it tryes to blow over.
Have fun.

RE: BIG SWOMP BUGGY NEEDS SPEED
Just my 2c worth - I am running a regular Swamp Buggy (29" in length and weighs 3.2 lbs) with a 40 FP and a 10x8 prop and it finally is running well (fairly fast and stable). So I would definitely go much bigger I have doubled the engine size from the recommendation (with double the BHP) so consider that when ramping up. (The 40 FP has about 1 BHP at 15,000 RPM) Good luck!

RE: BIG SWOMP BUGGY NEEDS SPEED
Hey all, I'm new to this forum and have a few questions about the Dumas Big Swamp Buggy.
I have had the hull constructed for about 25 years now but never did get around to building the pylon.
I have started the pylon and am just about ready to glue all the pieces together and paint it.
I am planning on putting a .75 engine on it due to its weight, I dont know the actual weight of it yet but it seems fairly heavy to me.
My main question would be, when driving these airboats is steering as simple as turning the wheel on the radio the direction you want to go, or does it require counter steering?
I have ran a few hydro outriggers before but never a air boat and was just wondering. I would hate to crash it the first time out.
Here are a few pics of the hull and the side plates of the pylon. I will add more when it gets further along.
Thanks, Jeff

RE: BIG SWOMP BUGGY NEEDS SPEED
I've never had or ran the Dumas boats. But from my experience with my hand crafted airboats....flat bottoms, V-hulls, stepped hulls, 3 pointer hydros; yes there will be some counter steering involved, especially when using air rudders. Also especially with the flat bottoms, they slide more in the turns, so cornering is more of a controlled slide which needs some counter steering.
