Default SPAB build

Here it is my very first attempt at a r/c boat of any kind. It took me about three weeks to build working on it in the evenings after work. As you can see she is built from a sign found in a dumpster at a gas station. The rest was made out of old airplane parts that I have accumulated over the years in the hobby. It cost about $20 out of pocket. I looked at all the plans and pics on this site and started building. I had no real idea what I was doing as far as weight and balance goes so I took swag at it and it seems to have worked.
I took it out to a creek with a pooled up area, it was not real big but it was big enough to run it and it worked very well. I did put larger rudders on it to get better turning that my original plan.
It's powered by a Magnum .61, standard airtronics servos, and a HPI receiver and radio.

I used gorrilla glue. I flashed and sanded all the places that were to be glued. I also used shoe goo to water tight a few places. As for the plans, I looked at pictures and sizes of other boats online and went with the plans inside my head. I have never seen a r/c airboat in person before this one.

The hull is 41 1/2" long, 18 1/2" wide, 2 3/4" deep at the rear and the nose sits 4" tall. It weighs 7 pounds 15 ounces! kind of porky I suppose. The bottom has no channels as of now, it ran great on grass that way. As for building the best on the net I think you have to do more than luck into one build to hold that title, but I'm glad you like it though. I will wait and see how the next build goes before I break my arm patting myself on the back.

how did you get the coro to curve into the front and the sides to stay up w/ no support.

also, what was the thickness of the coro?

2mm, 4mm, none of the above??

Its all 4mm coro. To get the curve for the front I trimmed the flutes on the top side for it to bend, then cut kind of v shaped notches on the sides for it to curve in then glued and clamped it in position. I have scratch built a few planes out of coro so I had some idea how to work with the stuff.

Nice build !!! She turns great, Looks like she is a lil heavy in the Bow though, might be the reason for the lack of speed. looks like she is trying to Plow a little, have you tride to adjust the AOA of her to see if it helps her plane out a lil better ?

I thought about trying that but I was not sure if it was that or just the fact that I have a tough time keeping it straight and most of the time I'm below 1/4 throttle. When I do keep it strait the bow comes up. Would adjusting the pitch of the motor change the AOA or would that make it just want to flip over at speed?

I forgot to mention too that my glow starter fell into my prop and broke it before this run so the only prop I had with me was a 11-6, so it was a little under proped in the video. But I'm open to trying a more aggressive AOA.

If you tilt the nose of the engine down a bit it will lift the bow up a bit. If your having trouble steering it or keeping it straight, if could just be as simple as having to much pressure on the bow. it could be other things also but i would start with the AOA. just slip a washer or 2 under the back mounting bolts of your engine this will be the easiest way i can think of to make the adjustment. I would just do it a lil at a time, it doesnt take much. Your right the prop may have had something to do with it also , but from what i can see in the vid it looks to be plowing a bit. I would give it a try and see what happens, good luck bro, and keep us posted. Again nice build!!!

Sounds good I will add a washer, bring some extras and try it out, a little test and tune session. I will try to get a video of it after so you can see what you think. Thanks for the tips!
