Got motor need hub
I got an odd radiator fan motor from a motorcycle I'd like to use to build an airboat with, sweet little motor with mounting tabs perfect for this.... as you can see in the pics it has a bottom mount and a fan shroud tabs that can mount a small prop cage. At 12 volts it doesn't turn as fast as my 550 rc motor but is STRONG.
It has a 12 segment armature thats 1 3/8" dia and aprox 23 windings.
Case is 3 1/2 long by 2" dia
My prob is it has a shaft of .235" dia................ I need away to mount a prop to it...
What do you guys think ? Should I try it or ditch it ?

RE: Got motor need hub
Make one ...
Simple enough .
Get a piece of tubing stock that will have some girth to it and is a little bit smaller on the inside , then the diameter of the motor shaft , bore it out to exact correct size of the motor shaft , then thread the other side ( which you will leave long enough for at least 3/4 inch of a fine thread bolt after the prop is placed on ) . Drill and thread the part that will slip over the motor shaft and use at LEAST 2 set screws and knotch the motor shaft where the set screws will go to make sure there is no slippage .
( hope I explained that good enough )

RE: Got motor need hub
I may have to do that. The shaft has a hole for a pin so I wont need to drill and tap for set screws.
What do you think of this motor ? Run it on 14.4v .. should swing a good sized prop dont you think ?

Yeah ... but this thing is gonna chew up some amps ... AND FAST .
Think I woulod try a 12x4 or 12x6 for starters ... and see how hot the motor gets and how fast the batts get dead . Then go from there .
What did you have planned for an ESC ?

RE: Got motor need hub
I bet it will eat power but boy at the fun I would have in that time.... as for an ESC I'm headed to Tower Hobbies web site right now and find one that fits the bill.
I want to run 2- 3000+ mah packs for 14.4v.....

Well from what I can see the Novak Super Duty XR ESC would do great, can handle alot of amps and up to 16.5v I think it said... $130+ is alot but I'd use it for other projects later..
I am also in the works of converting the motor from bushings to ball bearings, that alone should help free it up.
