Hi they are plastic hulls with water rudders i believe you want air rudders have a look for gator boats here is a link

http://www.cajungatorairboats.com/

his boats will blow your other air boats out the water as they are made of wood very forgiving as if you hit something with a plastic boat its put in bin time but wood is very forgiving thank god as i seem to hit the bank of the pond nearly every time im out

gator will give you plans for free to make your own or he builds them for you

i have a normal boat 61 engine and my air boat blows it out the water

The AIR FORCE is indeed a fibreglass hull . And as far as being good for a beginner , well , I guess it would be , as long as you are informed that the hatch DOES leak and take on water ( where your electronics are at )
Some have done simple things like add a wadded up bunch of paper towels , where others have tried other extremes .
If you were to get the AIR FORCE , I would highly suggest you choose to use some CORROSION X on ALL you electronics in/on the hull .
