a .61 glow laying around
I have a Fox .61 glow engine laying around from a plane i dont have room to fly. presently im into electric helis but seeing some your the airboats on here has me thinking. What size boat should i look to build around a motor like mine, just some general ideas. I have a 3/4 acre pond on my property that i could play on. I am not looking for major performance really, just mainly something stable to play around with on my pond and from my houseboat. Thanks in advance

The Dumas, Big Swamp Buggy Kit,looks pretty easy to Build..Unless you prefer to scratch Build from Drawings. or even make up your own Drawings/Design..0.610"engine should sizzle along. Those ,Foam Jobbies the Guys are building look pretty good too..Lots of options out there..

That's a question that will bring out a lot of opinions, so here's how I would tackle it.
Start with the largest prop you would use on that motor. Add 3 inches to get the width of the deck on your boat.
Make the length between 1 3/4 and 2 times the width.
Make the hull 2 to 2 1/2 inches deep.
Angle the sides 45 degrees.
Start the rake 1/3 of the length from the bow.
Make the balance point around 1/3 the length fropm the stern.
Most importantly, get vids.

LOL!!!
around a 32" long hull and 15" wide should get you where you're going, add that to jasper's detailed description and you're off!

RE: a .61 glow laying around
i have a pretty good idea in mind thanks to the help from y'all. Have a question in mind. I am planning to make the hull out of foam and then glass it. right now i am thinking of two layers of 1" foam epoxied together, between the foam sheets make a void most of the length and place a peice of plywood(like 1/8" or something) that has grommets i can screw my motor mount into. Will this give me the strength i need to hold my .61?

I see no reason why not. This pic is of a now destroyed hull that I built last year. to hold the 9 LB gasser engine, all it took was a piece of 1/4 " ply epoxied to the foam. It held through the most horrific crashes.LOL

I think putting the ply on top rather than sandwiched will serve you better. The foam between the ply and mounts will get torn up I think.
