The lap counters are ready for the race, now it will be a lot easer to keep track of just what lap you are on.

How does that lap thingy work?

We had something similar to the air powered peroux at our last RCAA meet in NC last Sept.....Check this out. LOL
36cc 16x8 3-blade.
What better way to retrieve an RC airboat?

The lap counter has a push button control for each lap counter, in which the diver's spotter pushes the button on each lap. We have done the full size rc airboat thing for a few years now, works good, just all of the strapping and unstrapping. Boatman has some vid from a couple years back at rockaway beach. Hoping to have a couple of the perouxs there, we may just for giggles have a race. RC Airboat powered peroux race.

Nice set up for the lap counters. For a minute there I thought it was one of those transponder setups.....those things cost an arm and a leg.

Is that the real name of those boats? The perouxs, or a peroux ? I Googled the name but all I came up with was some actress/model. Is it a "local" thing or is that the actual name?

Post video of the races...would ya'? Love to see 'em.

Thanks. We have been tossing the idea of the transponders. Maybe later we will end up using them, they are a little pricey and we need to figure a way to support the units over the water. And as most of us know its not all that easy to make the boats go just where we want all of the time, and passing under the units would not be real easy.
Peroux is the correct name. This type of boat is not found in many other places than south Louisiana, all it is, is basically a flat bottom canoe.
today we had a good turn out, for the open water running. Looks like we're going to have around 15 gassers racing and may be a dozen nitros.

We had a really good turn out this week end, 17 dirvers and 20 or so boats. It was a little windy so it made it hard to keep the boats upright. Dave took 1st place in gassers and nitros, Roni 2nd and Joey 3rd in gassers. Steve 2nd and Derick 3rd in the nitros. Edmond took the 20 lap gold cup. Marty took home the fastest lap time with a 14.3 lap time, 27cc gasser. Steve was awarded crash of the week end. The 26" trophy for the highest points/top driver was awarded to Dave Carnahan.
I had camera troubles, all of the pics I took did not work out (forgot to install the card) have a few vids. We will have pics posted as soon as the gang from Fl. gets home and unpack.
Vids can be found at [link=http://m-ab-aco.startlogic.com/maba/id1.html]MABA race events page[/link]

Well this year the races were done very nicely . The new systems for counting laps and the clock for starting with the lights and sirens was very nice . Also there was a computerized speed trap for timed laps . Lester and Roni have done a great job putting all the electronics together so everything works . I had a great time and everyone I talked to seemed to also . I would like to thank the land/pond owner for letting us take over his place for the weekend . Also for Hal for putting on this event for all of us to enjoy . As a side note If you eat out down there you will find that the Guacamole is a bit expensive .

WOW! What a weekend packed full of racing, making new friends and enjoying the fellowship with previous friends. I would like to say thank you Hal McNett along with wife Rayette McNett. With all your planning and hard work made the weekend of racing so great.
I would also like to say (Hal President and Lester Vice President) has brought this club along way. From just getting together running boats to actually racing the boats in a professional form. With hard work from Hal and Lester working together we have electronic set ups to let us know when to start the races, lap counters and time devices for timings. These things are important especially to a 62 year old grandmother that competes in the races.
Another special thanks goes to Roni as she kept all our races in line with her professional technique with all the paper work. Racers knew when it was time to race and the spotters new how to fill in information as paper work was left unquestionable. Thanks for keeping all our scores.
We had plaques and a trophy presented to the winners which was great. But I feel we were all winners as we raced together with great sportsmanship attitudes. Our professional form of racing adds such a challenge and excitement that we don't have as we all gather to practice down at the pond.

I know I had a good time even if I did only finish 1 lap of the first race, and only the first race. It seems I could'nt keep the Aligator Tours boat upright long enough to do better. I have modified the hull, lowered the fuel tank, and replaced the throttle cable with a stronger metal cable setup. I hope this all works. If not, anyone looking for a nice airboat? All the people there seemed to be having a great time and I enjoyed the sportmanship between all the racers. I look forward to the next races. I just hope there is no more Cajun guacamoly. It's just too expensive, and it's hard on the stomach. Great job everyone! Oh, where were all the go fast water rudder guys? Bring them out, we can all enjoy them too! We are all airboaters looking to have a good time right? See y'all in January. Dennis

Thanks, but its not my top speed, my outrigger has been on the shelf collecting dust for a long time now, latter I will play around with it again to set a top speed record. Top speed records have not been at the top of the list for the m-ab-a, working on getting things for the oval and drag racing. The top speed record has been removed from the website, until we get the equipment needed to get a correct speed record.
Back to the post, I'm still waiting on pics and vids. As soon as we get them all together, they will be posted on the m-ab-a.com web site. Hoping to see you guys at the next race/meet hosted by the NFMABA.

I picked a copy of Airboat Magazine Jan-Feb 09 on page 22 there is a two-page article on the Winds of the Swamp race we had in oct. 08.
I would like to thank Airboat Magazine for supporting RC Airboating in there publication and thanks to all that were there at the Race. See you at the next one.
