Well, I got started with a .61 build over the weekend. I've got all the stringers and bulkheads cut out and fitted together, I'll start epoxying as time permits.

Just two questions MR Cajun Gator
What size and shape are the air rudders for this boat? How do you attach the rudders?

The rudders can be attach by using something as simple as a regular 1" cabinet door hinge. Rudder size 9"- 10" tall top 60% of the rudder 2" wide tapering down to 3/4".

The end angles of the ribs change for the curve of the hull which
make it handle better while turning . If it was the same all the way
down the side it would dig in very easily and flip

Ok the odd measurements are the length of the angle measured from the
top outside edge of the rib to the bottom outside edge of the rib if this
makes any since to you \___/ The height of the rib is the same all
the way across

Hope this helps

boatman....if you look at the drawings in the the beggining of this thread...you will see the transome former is 27/16 one end and 2" the other end.... former bh3 is 29/16 one end 2" other end...this is what i am asking...i cant see where this would stop the boat flipping...bob

What you are seeing is the angle . If you were to make that line 90* to the deck and not shorten it it would be longer than 2" . The formers are 2" high .

I'm getting ready to start this build, but I have a question.

In the pictures, there is a long trangular piece that is shown on the sides, glued in on the bottom of the angles.

I can't tell if this is a peice that is somehow reinforcing the corner where the bottom and sides meet, or if the sides are glued in on top of that trangular piece so that it acts like a wedge.

Or was that a piece needed for that particular build and these plans don't require it?

it is not needed on this build. pictures are of a different build, but the building steps are the same

I've got my centers and bulkheads cut, the transom seems strange, like the diagonals should line up with the centers (ie, \|___|/) so I may have to re-do it with different measurements.

I'm guessing the bottom is a sheet 11" wide and 2' and a little long, since the b'heads are all 11" wide on their bottoms.

I have some of that packing wood (1/16" or maybe even 1/32") but I'm thinking that I could either use the 1/8" that I've framed out with, or maybe spend the $$$$ on some better hobby-ply but I can't get that wider than 6", which means splicing and stuff.

Pictures shortly, I figure the cutting is not interesting (unless I added some protein to the build by lopping off my thumb) but the glue-up and so forth may be

I decided to use the packing wood I have, as the 1/8" birch ply I had didn't want to make the bend without a lot of ominous cracking sounds. I'm using 2 pieces of the stuff, oposing the grains (ie one long-wise, the other crossing) and gluing them on separately. By laminating them after they were bent to the hull, they will be more inclined to hold their bent shape.

I "penciled in" a thin side with a few dabs of CA, not sure if I will use the same approach on the sides that i did the bottom. The top of the boat is to be of the nice 1/8" ply that didn't make it onto the hull.

I'm going to start a new post for this build with pics and everything shortly. Thanks, Mr. Cajun Gator, for the plans and the help so far. I'll be asking more questions later about motor mounts and so forth.

I'm wavering between just painting the snot out of the boat and praying there's no rocks in my future, or fiberglassing it with a layer or 2 of 1-2oz cloth. In favor of paint is...well, I know how. In favor of glass is strength and probably a smoother finish Either way, I really would like to stain/varnish/clearcoat the top of the boat, but that may change depending on how badly I mess the deck up in glue-up.

My engine is a .40 MDSnitro motor. I hope it'll do well on this hull, it's lighter than the one it's on currently and that boat was not too bad.

Cajun Gator,

A quick question,I have read the post, hopefully thisis not a repeat question. As you stated, the plans posted are for a puller boat. I would like to modify the plans and build a pusher boat. From what I can tell the main difference for a pusheris the engine mounts would slide forward to the first (BH2) horizontal cross member. Does that sound right?

Thanks!

I just built this boat as per spec. Only difference, It was electric. I could not get this hull to run a straight line to save my life. I moved the motor, I moved the battery, added a gyro...would not run a straight line.....I have no idea why. I could get it to run better on snow if I added 2 lbs of weight to the bow, otherwise it just did 180 degree spins at random. I ended up removing all the gear and burning it.

That's a bummer. It did strike me as odd that it was so small... Didn't you say something like 24.5 X 14.5 or something?
