Yeah, that strikes me as a bit small for a.40-.46 boat IMO... Maybe good for a stout .25-.30 or so. But im concerned about how yours ran in general - with balance being hyper-critical for it to even just go straight...

Mr Cajun Gator Hopefully through your efforts and others posting these models will entice some new blood to have a go at building their own boats. Thumbs up!

This design has a nice look, but something is amiss with an electric powered model in regard to the CG. Crispy's boat ran like poo without adding a lot of weight to the bow. Hopefully it's just a matter of building the hull a little differently to accommodate the difference in weight/balance with the electric setup. I'm still a big fan of the Selph Inflicted flat bottom boat. It's longer and wider than the Cajun Gator which should translate to a little better handling with a .40-.46 sized engine. I think the Cajun Gator would be more suitable to a .25-.35 sized engine. IMO.

Just ditch the air rudders and slap on a water rudder. That is all this boat needs. The .46 is a perfect fit if balanced and turn fins make it fun.

Yeah, but wet rudders don't work on grass and snow. Besides - Crispy's boat wouldn't track straight period. It took 2 pounds of steel on the bow to make it controllable and actually track straight.

Just wondering if a simple scale up would work to meet the requirements to run this boat with a 48cc gas powered motor tractor setup spinning a 22" prop? Just scale every measurement up the same to keep it uniform?

Default Airboat Design

Would anyone out there be willing to give me a little advice on an airboat design I have created? It is the basic flat bottom design, but fo a 1.20 size power plant.

Thank you

I built a wood flat bottom airboat a number of years ago. I built it around a K&B .65, but I’ve also ran a ST S.90, Enya 60-4C, and an Enya R120-4C. It handled the 1.20 4-stroke just fine albeit a fair bit “spirited”. The hull was built at 32” long and 18” wide. It weighed 6#10oz with the K&B .65, so I figure with he Enya 1.20, it’s probably 7.5-8lbs ready to go. In reality, figure 2-1/2 times prop diameter for your hull length and 1-1/2 times prop diameter for width. My hull is small for a 1.20, but it handles it well. I’d certainly I wouldn’t go smaller for this size of engine.

Default .40-.46 RC Airboat Plans

I was at a float fly recently and saw an RC airboat that looks like a relatively simple design. It was 30-36" long with a .40 2 stroke. I would like to find a set of plans to build one this winter.
Any help from the gurus would be appreciated.

Cool

Decent airboat plans are sometimes hard to find and many don’t include dimensions. The first one below is probably what you want, but I included more with different designs.
