New Project

Hello everyone,
Well, here comes another airboat (?) project. This one will be based on this Ryobi 30cc engine. It's converted from a Ryobi backpack leaf blower. The engine went from 5800 RPM to 7200 RPM just by eliminating the stock muffler. The new exhaust plumbing is fabricated from aluminum and stainless seamless tubing. The oil mix called for 50:1, but I'm running 32:1 for better lubrication. The 32:1 mix gives just a slight smoke trial. I milled off the mixture screw walls and cut slots in the mixture screw heads to facilitate the mixture settings. By the way, I did run the carburetor mounted up-side down and it ran just fine that way too, but I turned it right-side up afterwards. I removed the crank and cut 1.5 inches from it and rethreaded it with 3/8-24 thread. It also had an electric start mounted to the back but it looked crazy on there so I fabricated an old timey pulley for it and it works great...some of you will remember this type of pull-rope system. The engine is running a 16x8 prop at this time. |

I really like what you have done with that engine! Clean, well engineered, very professional looking. So many of these conversions look.....much less finished. Good job!
