Basic 32" airboat plan

I have a set of step by step basic plans for a 32" flat bottom airboat. It is a simple hull to build. It is in a word processor format. If interested in a copy send me your email address. I am not one that is all that good at explaining the steps, and I may have left things out, in this case I will gladly answer any questions on anything left out.

One thing I did not add to the plans, and is important. The plans or made to use 1/8" plywood.

Found that I left out a few measurements. I revised the plans, those that I sent the plans to already, email me so that I send you the revised set.

After we get all of the bugs worked out of this set of plans(thanks for the help on finding what was left out) I will start on making another set that is a little harder. Something with more design to it. If anyone has a style in mind and would like to work with me on it, then tell me what you have in mind.

Here is my plan for a 40 size airboat - not for the novice airboat driver - she is a handfull, and WILL do backflips if you hold your trigger finger down too long. I call it Blue Thunder - cuz it's blue - and it has a Thunder Tiger motor on it. Finally after about 30 upside down retrievals - resulting in more than 5 broken rudders - I got a full tank thru her last night in one SWEET run ! :D

To help out with the back-flipping problem you seem to be having....try adjusting the engines thrust angle.

When looking at it from the side, is the center-line of the engine (crankshaft) parallel to the BOTTOM of the hull? If not, this could be a cause for the problem. If it isnt parallel, and the front of the engine points down towards the front, , bring it to a parallel angle first, and try running it again.

If it still wants to flip, reset the thrust angle again so the front of the engine points a few degrees upward.

RE: Basic 32" airboat plan

PRO - I think I will try adjusting the thrust angle. Right now it is parallel. I will add a washer or two under the front of the mount and see if that helps - Maybe if it didn't go so fast ? ? I have added to the front wing to the point where it slowed it down then gradually started taking more wing off till now, it rarely flips and only when you pin it for more than 5 seconds. I just made a newer (hopefully more waterproof) radio box. and will adjust the thrust angle. I will give a report after this weekend to let you know if it helped. BTW
I had to angle the motor 3-5 degrees to the left to get it to go straight - otherwise it was just wanting to make left turns.

Torque steer can sometimes be a royal pain. Especially at wot where it gets even more pronounced. With a computer radio this can be adjusted for with progressive trim and steering settings where you can mix channels. Apply throttle and the rudder trim adjusts with it to counteract the torque. If I only had $$$.......

Yea.....make the thrust adjustment a little at a time and test it to the limit as to where (speed-throttle position) you were having the problem occur.

I personally like my hulls somewhat loose on the water. Nothing like riding on the edge.......:D

Blohmi...

Haljmac is still offshore working. Not sure when he'll be back. Hopefully soon.

I have blueprints for a flat bottom boat. If your interested, email me with what size motor
your gonna be using and the size prop your gonna swing and I'll send you a set of prints
for the hull and motor stand(s).
