25cc Weedeater Airboat

1 Attachment(s)
A few pictures of my 46 inch, 25cc weedeater powered airboat. I built the hull from douglas fir frames, redwood stringers, 1/8" birch plywood sheeting, and epoxy/fiberglass. The paint is rustoleum sunburst yellow. It weighs about 17 lbs. I haven't ran it yet...maybe tomorrow.

Couldn't agree more that is a nice looking boat! I started to dismantle an old weedeater (31cc Craftsman) this weekend with the idea of turning it into an airboat project. I'd like to see a few more details on your build if you wouldn't mind sharing them...

1. Brand of motor, difficulty of mounting?
2. Prop size
3. Hull width and height

Anything else you had to "get creative" with or that you think would help with the build I'd appreciate it.

Heliair you really did a fine job on your build. I like your idea on how to hide the radio box.

At RC airboat world I have post on a hull that is in the building stage. This hull I'm installing a supertiger G2300. Also in the gallery I have pics of a gasser with a 41cc US engine on it.

RE: 25cc Weedeater Airboat

I ran it over the weekend. I was impressed. It porposes at full speed, but it can probably be trimmed out. It's as fast as any other gas airboat I have seen, probably 15-20mph. It turns well. If I chop the throttle, turn, then get back on the throttle, it does really cool slides. I was doing 360's with no sign of flipping, just a little nose dive.

I initially tried it out in my gravel yard. It is probably twice as fast out of the water, but it scratches the hell out of the bottom;).

Thanks for all the input. Please feel free to ask anymore questions.

fishjunky,
1. Brand of motor, difficulty of mounting? Weedeater, carr precision conversion parts, lots of aluminum trimming, details can be found in Engine Conversion forum.
2. Prop size? 16x8, but I think it's a little underpropped. A 16x10 or 18x8 would load the engine better and provide more thrust.
3. Hull width and height? 25.5" overall, 16" at the bottom, 5" deep
