rough water advice
I just moved to St. John's Newfoundland, Canada-the windiest city in Canada. There is also no shortage of ponds to sail on! Being an avid model boater, with so much water around, I am looking for advice on fast electric and gas boats and designs suitable for the waves and high sustained winds here. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

RE: rough water advice
from my very small experiance with boats, get yourself a nice v-hull as that is the only way you will be able to run around on choppy or wavy water. i live on an island called malta in europe and we only have sea. we dont have any ponds or lakes, and as u can imagine, it is rarely flat calm condition. we do run catamarans but ut has to be a really calm day or at least wind very minimal. i have a kyosho sunstorm 1000 which is a bit tail heavy for waves and i have an nqd which i will someday get around to building up which was quite balanced but not powerful enough. anyway , my only advice is that u should get yourself something which is balanced at about halfway or at least u can move around some weights inside to adjust because with tail heavy boats, its good fun making them jump off waves but if u dont do it correctly its the easiest thing to flip them over. so that is my small advice. i am not technical, had just started boating and now ive been away from it for a while but i still continue to look at posts, so im sorry i cant be of more help.

for a rough water, the bigger the better 40 inches lenght and above, mono and catamaran hull, either gas or electric, but gas is cheaper down the road,,my 50cents...

RE: rough water advice
i run on lake Ontario up here in Canada so i run in anything from glass calm to 12" chop i have a 57" Apache hull that is awsome in the big stuff but a bit of a dog when it like glass i also have a 40" cat that is also a blast to run cant run quite as hard in the bigger waves but that is due to the size of the boat more than the size of the waves the only thing we cant scale down if you are going to have to run in big waves get a big boat if setup right you can get a cat to run well in rough watter find a hull style you like and build it an Apache type hull would be a good choice to start out with
