Default How To Find a Model Boating Pond Near You.

This is an Online Directory of Model Boat Ponds for North America [link=http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&oe=UTF8&msa=0&msid=202626390827908778058.0004b34cbbbf9d702522d]<<link>>[/link]

After a discussion on IW, some of us have setup a Pond and Lake Directory using Google Maps. It is open to the public and has the “Open Collaboration” feature enabled allowing everyone to add in pond locations.

This is an attempt to bring our community closer together so PLEASE add in your ponds. Try to include the following information when adding a model boat pond:
*Name and description of lake
*Running times
*Accessibility
*Directions
*Contact person(s)
*Club affiliation (if any).
*Club website.(if any)
*Types of power systems allowed.

How to add a location
1. Follow the link. [link=http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&oe=UTF8&msa=0&msid=202626390827908778058.0004b34cbbbf9d702522d]LINK[/link]
2. Click the "Sign In" link in the upper right corner of Google Maps to sign in to Google if you are not already signed in.
3. Once you have signed into Google you will see a red "Edit" button on the left. Click it.
4. 3 icons will then appear on the map. Click the "Push Pin" icon and place it on the map where your pond is.
5. After placing the Push Pin on the map a Text Box will appear where you can add information about the pond location, contact person, club website, directions, power systems allowed, etc.

Have a look here too. This shows not only ponds, but tracks, flying fields, and Hobby shops too.

After 3 days we have 44 ponds on the map now with 736 views. The map now comes up in Google searches.

States with no Model Boat Pond locations include:
*****************************************
Colorado
Oregon
Arizona
Nevada
Georgia
Virginia
N. Carolina
Maryland

Added 2 more. Correct me if I am wrong but anyone accessing the site can change, move, or remove place markers or content - could be problematic!.

Yeah. That is one of the downsides of the "Open collaboration" feature. We will have to have faith in our fellow R/c boater's good will.

Looks like a couple were moved into the ocean either on purpose or by accident....

I see Celina OH off the coast of Boston - not exactly where this pond goes so wont try to move it.

Most likely by accident. If you are in Edit mode and grab the map to move it, be careful to not put the mouse pointer on a push pin as it will drag the Pin to a new location. If you notice that you have done this by accident Google asks you if you want to undo the move.

Regardless, I fixed it by putting them back in place.

I plan to keep weekly backups of the map just in case something gets messed up.

For those of you who want to add additional details to your pond locations… You can draw shapes with text on the map depicting things like parking, easy up locations, bathrooms, food tent, spectator areas, etc.

Check out the Badger Model Boat Club, in Wisconsin. It is 2nd on the list in the left hand frame. I added some of these things to it… even a menu for our Food tent.

Well, the "Find a Model Boat Pond" site has been out there for a year now and has had 423,047 views so far. Pretty good! For those of you who haven't checked it in a while, you might want to make sure that your pond location wasn't moved by accident. Unfortunately, someone else can move your Push pin by accident if they are not careful when editing.

Does anyone know about any Boat clubs in the Modesto area?? I have been trying to contact the clubs listed on the NAMBA District 9 site. But haven't got any answers.
