Thanks Tunda - I just love creating these special 'little boards'....awesome to think of the places they will be surfing 'all around the world' -I put all my TLC ( tender - love - care) into them..... it's that little piece of me that gets to go with them...

Hull gloss coat
I only apply the final gloss coat to the hull once all the protruding appendices are fitted. This allow the resin to soak/fill around the appendage area - adding strength and ensuring a good water tight seal.
Once the final gloss coat has cured it only needs some fine water papering and polishing to bring out that awesome resin glass over foam luster...

Hatch cover studs...
Cant emphasize the importance for this process to be carried out 'properly' - NO SHORT CUTS !...
You have to work - accurately - neatly - effectively & patiently !......
A very slow set epoxy is required to ensure maximum saturation into the foam surrounding the stud. I use a syringe to inject the epoxy into the stud cavity - pressurizing the epoxy into the foam surrounding the stud.
I always say I am going to count the total number of 'steps' in the build process of a custom ******** - BUT - I always seem to lose count somewhere along the way..LOL..at a guess..... I would say that....There are LOTS !....

When the epoxy has fully cured - the tape is removed - leaving a clean protruding stud - well bonded to handle the stress of sizable surf.
The underside of the hatch cover is coated white to present an opaque look on the surface ( wax like)
Housing hatch cover - ready for the surf

Bro Surfer Dude - tough to the Core !
Bro's unique Flexible Core is what makes him so tough and able to handle the stress's in the surf so well ! - made up of epoxy - bi axial cloth sandwiching several layers of uni directional carbon fiber .
The carbon fiber foot bases are epoxied onto the hatch cover deck
Light weight closed cell foam polyurethane head - 10 g's ( 3.1 ounces)
Still to get his Rash Vest fitted !

The Lycra rash vest works well in identifying Bro more easily in the surf. It also helps present a more realistic surfer look.
Bro's head and feet are bonded, using a slow set epoxy- ensuring maximum saturation and bond.
Surface preparation is all important whilst making an effort to keep the surrounding surfaces clean.
Leaving a well bonded - neat finish - ready to handle some serious surf .

Hi bro... me again.
Nice to see the basic deck stud deal again.... be a few weeks before i stud up but as i'm out there and have 8layers of glass on my stud area i'm gunna tap the holes as well... let you know how it goes when it happens.
(btw enthusiasts... cheapo ebay taper taps for $1.50 delivered tap oversize... local toolshop $9 for a 4mm HSS taper tap... cuts fiberglass sweet as just sayin)
Dig your black hold down nuts (being real not naughty ok...lol)
Ones i got from a bicycle shop in UK need some work trimmin down flatter... still reckon the wide hold down area is best case scenario for spreading even pressure over the bolt hole but.
Nice to see more detail of whats inside my flexy bro too.... know where to stick my ariel up his front foot without sacrificing any strength now lol....
Btw i'm still thinkin of doin my 4 x stud trip down each side (no front centre bolt)... sure there is much force on bro's front foot goin into the waves but in the air then landing back first will generate some force on the rider too.... and your deck set-up has a way bigger flex patern (and no centre bolt) than the front of my one.... lol
Btw am gettin weird stuff happenin regarding personel/ public domain messages/posts lately on the RCU... have no time for it anyway so best i get back to the cave....
All good bro..... bc

All Good BC !......**** !its cold in Cape Town to-day - We even have 'SNOW' on Table Mountain...just insane..
Got this one 'sanded and polished' ready for the "electrics".....
First water paper sanded to a 1200 grit finish:
Then polished to a deep shine:
The board is of the lighter colour - the workshop lighting is not that good for quality photo's
Just love the luster of the glass over foam ...

Weekend Surf Report !....huge !
Surf prediction for Muizenberg to-morrow on the High Tide - 6-8 ft ground swell... - wind coming in from the right - hollow lefts - could be a good day to rack up a few 'Big Wave Contest' qualifiers.....
http://www.wavescape.co.za/surf-repo...peninsula.html
Just love these old surfing shots: - 5 guys enjoying one wave - true surfing spirit - no wet suits - the guys are all so lean - no junk food in those days !..
Our local Kalk Bay reef going off yesterday - they are hosting the 'Shoot Out' event to-day ..

Sundays surf session..
We've had much hype the entire week about 'Big Surf' rolling into the bay .... predicting near perfect conditions...just in time for one of our annual local surf events...the Kalk Bay Reef Shoot Out !
Unfortunately.. it was not to be - there was some swell size rolling into the bay- but the wind and actual swell direction were not quite on the button...for the predictions to become a reality - true to form... we rcsurfed what was happening anyway - looking to rack up a few more battery packs on the Bro's R&D log - and - to demonstrate the frustration of surfing in 'far out' swell conditions.... ...not very conducive......
Conditions not conducive for rcSurfing: swell/white water 'too far out'

Quality Control Flat Water Test ! UK Float'er....
Rudder/Bi-Fin fitted - no grease to be used as it only accumulates sand and causes major wear. Water flushes the tube out as the board is run. Sturdy S/S drive shaft housing - 2.5 mm Aluminium Bi-Fin pivoting on a 4mm S/S shaft.
Single grub screw release drive shaft - lightly greased with "red rubber grease' - Motors vacant bolt holes sealed with silicon and the 3 phase wire port is positioned high up to prevent any moisture within the motor.
Servo sealed with tape and an o-ring/grease fitted around the servo horn. A servo tester is handy to set the servo arms center position before fitting.
ESC sealed at both ends with Prestick ( blue tack) and insulation tape - good soldering of plugs is imperative.
Servo tester used to set the rudder position and to check the function is correct before fitting the RX.
Flat water QC test - ensuring that all is working well before shipping.

float'er for Australia - South East Coast ..........
This custom float'er build will be going to OZ !...
I'm going to keep an accurate count of total days days (rough hours) it takes to build this board from start to finish. There are so many curing process's along the way, which one cannot 'hurry'..
I'm going to hang back on the detailed photos and explanations from here on out - I'm sure that there is enough of that now documented - covered in the past pages...If there is anything new - i will be sure to share the detail..and please ! always feel free to ask at any time..
These build pics will be more of the progress - intended for the clients pleasure - observing as I go along...
