Default New Forum Section Poll - Vintage & Old-Timer Boats

Please take a moment to read about the proposed Forum. Please make a vote in the upper bar poll to establish this new forum. We need to have 100 votes by June 10th to get this Forum established.

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1899907

If you or someone that has older pre-1960's and earlier plans of any and all types of boats, articles, etc. that may have historical value, please save them. We are building a repository to save them here.
i hope you can help with the poll as a starter.
Thanks,
**Neons** Bob

This is not my poll. I offered the poll originator "Dodgy" to help him get the word out to get the new forum Stickied to the Boat Talk forum. There are a handful in the boat threads over there thinking we are out to fragment and steal their thread patrons away. It is not so. The purpose here is to gather old plans, manuscripts, and all related historic plans or just plain old plans from being lost forever. Due to copyright laws we can safely store early 1960's plans if they are no longer being commercially sold by any heirs.

It will then be a repository for someone that may want an out of print plan or instruction text to go there to see if it is available or to ask someone if they have it available for uploading there for access. There are also some against the idea because the fact it is old. They feel if it is old it should be thrown away. I want to see these saved myself just because it is part of a modeling heritage and people in the future will be able to maybe find what they want here. I think the way the votes are going for now that the new forum has the interest to make it happen. Fingers crossed here. Thanks for your inquiry.
Happy flights or sails.

I found your thread posts on the Missouri. I did not see the plans and some links because many just did not work due to broken links. I had the Sterling Missouri last fall from my deceased brother. None of my relatives wanted to build it. It did not have the plans in otherwise a complete kit. We found someone on eBay that sold us a plan. Then we sold the kit off. It would have been nice to find it in what we are trying to establish with the new Vintage Boat Plans thread. It looks like we may get the needed votes in time . Maybe 10 days left to reach our 100 to make it a forum.
Thanks

What does have to do with this site? Absolutely nothing. RCG and RCU are competing sites so why would we want to send our members over there? Some may have to sign up to vote. If you read this site's rules you'd know that a thread like this shouldn't even be here.
Yeah, I'm a member over there and have been for many years but this is not the point. Most of the General forum and their scale ship forum are devoted to the very same thing, scale ships. When someone here wants to ask about a vintage boat then they go to the appropriate forum. I also see that here is an active thread over there going on where some members do not want yet one more forum.

It is nothing about competing sites. I am here to recruit some people that love boats cars and planes to help go to the link posted and vote to save old boat plans and articles. There is a group over there that does not think old plans have any value and would just throw them out. We are trying to establish a site to make a repository of historic and valuable plans if possible. I am here trying to get help to reach 100 votes so it can be established. No one is competing here. I fly planes just like anyone else. I also do boats. It is a mission to do the right thing and save our model heritage for all of us and youngsters getting in the hobby.

I myself have many old magazines and articles back to pre-WWII. When I live my life and my daughters come along they will surely take all my old plans and not have any idea what to do with them. They will most likely get tossed out. I do have some valuable plans here that no one has or never seen before. They should be retained. What is wrong with asking for help to get your votes to do something that needs to be done. Once they are lost it could be forever. It takes less than a minute to do.
Thanks for your thoughts.

This site's rules so let the current Mod's translate them in any manner that they feel is correct.

POSTING LINKS:
Our policy on linking to other websites is pretty simple. Members may link to any other site that provides information that helps answer another member's question or is just of specific interest to members of that particular forum. One of the most basic tenets of the Web is the open exchange of information, and the RCU forum managers wholeheartedly support this type of exchange. Members may NOT link to sites which require registration or membership to view the content, including offsite chat room discussions.

The only other type of linking (besides porn and spam as mentioned previously above in our rules, of course) that will not be allowed on our site is when members solicit people to leave our site to a competing service. That's just common sense. We won't allow people to use our site to promote a competing service any more than a brick-and-mortar store would allow his competitor to paste flyer's all over his walls. However, people are always welcome to link to any non competing online resource in order to share useful information with fellow members.

If it is so important to you, Dodgy or any other members on that site, then why didn't you make a request on this site for such a forum? Unfortunately you are only thinking inside your box, scale ships. There are many other vintage boats such as those that are nitro, gas and other electric, sail and steam. I'm old enough to remember older model boats, radio systems, etc. and help to answer a lot of questions when I can of vintage boats from my early days of RC boating.

It is not about answering questions. It is about a repository of All model vessels. I even have nitro boats here maybe 7 of them 2 -.90cc cats and some .67 and 45s. I was a member of IMPBA. But I sail and fly planes also. I am not locked in any specific RC models. I have 40 planes flying as of right now. So what. I like boats and want to see plans saved. Rubber paper sail. Gas. tin. anyting historic. out of print of value to someone. It is not a discussion thread being created other than plans. It is not about asking questions from you or anyone in particular. There are forums already everywhere for that very reason. It is saving plans. It involves everyone no matter what part of the earth they are from. I happen to subscribe to many forums. I may be in at least 30 I believe. I go where I can find info. Here or Europe or any country. I am not here to steal your patrons. i am here looking for people that will do the right thing and not throw old plans away that are pre 1960,s. No one has to subscribe if they do not want too. I offered help Dodgy because I am a member here and other places. I fel he is doing a noble thing for saving plans. What is wrong with that. If anyone does not care that is fine also do not help. It is that simple. .
Thanks for your thoughts.

Thanks Deathwish
I did not get that particular page when I Googled it. That is a good post. I did see the video cannon tests though. I noticed the dates on the page went back to 2007. There were some links that went nowhere also. Very nice work. My brother has a built one also but just for displaying. He built 300 waterline models and donated them all to the Battleship Massachusetts years ago.
