Default New outdrive/ Z-drive

Hello.

I always thougt the AMPS outdrive were amazing. I live in Sweden and havenīt come across any, and since there are no similar ones to buy today I decided to build one on my own. Of course there are a few drives but no one in my taste with the great AMPS-scale look.
The outdrive I am building is made from aluminum which I am casting myself. All shafts are stainless steel. The gears are hardened steel gears. The outdrive is fully sealed with real radial sealings and are to be filled with oil. Like the AMPS it also have the tilt-up protection system if hitting something under water. I am building it in 2 versions, singleprop and duoprop. Later on I have plans on bouth an outboard vesion as well as building a speedmaster lower unit. The outdrives are still to be considered as prototypes. I havenīt tested them yet. I resently got the first ones done and I doit all in my spare time as a hobby. And since I have a family as well the time is a big issue. Itīs winter in sweden right now and I have no boat to put them on - yet. Hoping to do the first testing maybe in May or June. It has taken me one year to reach this point and that includes learning the casting process as well. I was planning to wait untill they were completly done until I shared it all but then I thought it could be fun for you all to se it.

Anyway, here are sim pictures.

Kind regards Gustaf

Thank you. When they are tested and working fine they might be for sale.

Best regards Gustaf

Thanks but the boat could use some more work in My opinion. It was meant to be only like a testing hull. Here is the Duoprop prototype I have been testing.

Default Plastic universals for AMPS

I have 2, c/r. I broke 1 and just went here and posted. I finally found a couple, now I have 1 spare. I'm very careful when running my boat. It's a 56" aeromarine apache with a 1:1 gearbox with a gas motor. I went to a shop to see if I could have them make a pair out of SS. The cost was around $150 each. I talked to a gentleman who did research and develpoment for AMPS (who I got the universals from, and he doesn't have anymore), they tried nylon filled plastic for the universals and found the joint didn't fail, however because it didn't brake when hitting something in the water, it broke off teeth on the gears. That's why they stuck with plastic because you would have had to send it back for repair.
Good luck finding 1, I wish I could have been more helpful. I purchased an outdrive on eBay for parts.
