RE: RC Surfer
Hugh's swing keel surfer update:
here are some prelim pictures of my new swing keel surfer
all carbon/epoxy over styrofoam - keel bulb has lead under carbon
servos, 120 amp esc, steering, water jacket - still need to be final connected
latex glove material will cover keel servo arm and keel connection slot
still have to sand the primer paint, finish paint
testing all worked great in my hot tub

Hey Crew,
New motor is in and I was hoping for a test run at "Pages" with Bob today.
But it is howling onshore and messy as **** over here.
Hugh,
Your custom boards are sick!
Can't wait to see howwellthe retractible ballast system actually works in the surf.
BB,
G'day from W. A.
Sea ya.

RE: RC Surfer
Hi Guys,
Biggest swell for a long, long time is hittin' Gero at the moment.
But it has been onshore and nasty.
Solid 6 to 8 footers closing out around the local beachies. (Massive faces)
Wind is supposed to swing south in the morning and Pages could be all time sick for RC Surfing.
Trying to get Bob down there for a dawny.
New motor to test out.
Hope it is really firing up for the little Dude.
Better not stay up too late and miss out on all the action.
Sea ya.

RE: RC Surfer
Hi Crew,
Ran 3 packs at "Pages" this morning.
Swell has dropped a fair bit.
Got some nice clean little waves.
Pulled off a couple a barrel roll airs landing out on the face.
Motor tested great and everything stayed cool..
Little bit of extra speed is fun.
Runnin' nice and dry.
Bob never made it.

RE: RC Surfer
Curl-Z,
Here are the details of my Lisa setup.
Feigao 540 3943 RPM/Volt 1/8"
Seaking 60A ESC
Turnigy 2S 4000 Hardcase
Flexi-end shaft in Kyosho Tube
32mm Threaded Prop
The coupler is a little one piece 4 screw job that I found on ebay and it fits the flexi-end shaft without needing to change the tube or move the mount forward or drill out the plastic under the front of the battery tray like the other guys are doing. (I noticed that some of Loco's boards used the same couplers.)
When you say you use 3000KV motors do you mean this one?
Feigao 540 2958RPM/Volt 1/8"
Are these the ones you sent me?
JIMI

RE: RC Surfer
Yo Jimi- If you don't mind myopinion.I think you might be over proping that thing. The ESC/motor rpm / prop size ratio seems good for top speed but might be lacking on acceleration. I am using a 28 mm dia.prop with x1.4 pitch (or 39mm pitch) I have the same motorwith 2400rpm/kvand a 100amp ESC andit isalmost to fast. I am on3 cell so that makes a big diffrence. Ifyou take a while to get up to speed youmight trya smallerprop.
Cheers!! Karl

RE: RC Surfer
We like the 3943, and have used the 2958...
Prolem is they changed the can by adding screws to it, so now the screws dont allow the cooling tunnels to fit...

RE: RC Surfer
Hey Curl-Z,
No screws on the one I just installed, cooler fitted as usual.
Karl,
Although, the 32mm prop seemed to work very well yesterday.
No problem with acceleration.
I do have some 30mm props but have not tried one yet.
I will give one a try and see if it runs even better.
I was concerned that t might get a bit hot with the 32mm but it didn't.
Thanks for the tips.

RE: RC Surfer
surfhouse
Im guessing its a NQD.
I would suggest striping it completely down ,including the hull into 2 pieces and seal it up. everything you need to know is on this thread if you want to go down that ave.
if you just want to bash around with it stock for now
things to do that are a must :
grab some new deck seals
seal everything that comes out of the decklid, footpegs ,ariel etc
check over the figurine for cracks in the joins if so just wack some epoxy on them for now
be sure to grease your shaft after each session
with any stock surfer your bound to run in to problems so you might wanna strip it down completely soon as possible and replace all the internals and also do all the mods that most of us have done.
good luck

RE: RC Surfer
House,
Everything Cananzi said is right.
But you better seal up around the rail seams and also around the top of the rudder shaft hole inside the hatch.
Otherwise your hull is gonna fill up with water.
Cananzi,
How is you custom job coming along?
Have you started shaping yet?
Are you gonna post a few pics at each stage of the build so we can watch it come together?
"Stockfence" looked Magic on the way to work yesterday.
So I went down this morning but the swell has all but gone and the tide was treacherously low.
No run today.

RE: RC Surfer
Hi Guys,
Well now I know why I have not been able to contact Bob.
He has been up north in the Desert surfing waves like this.
Lucky bugger.
Meanwhile, I just got back from the dentist, what fun (NOT).
Fishy,
That just about says it all bro.

RE: RC Surfer
Hey thanks for the help, i just took the rc surfer for its first ride, lots of fun but it got water in it and the back little circle cover fell off, still good though. have any ideas on what to use to stop the leaks (The leak for me was the antenna on the board, the hole the antenna goes through let in water) Still it was very fun even though that their was no waves
