We had a fun weekend, a surf party, tequila, and rc surfing. I forgot the camera but Sail D and I had fun at the hammer. I only hit one surfer this time.

Curly the parts arrived. Thanks they look perfect. I going to talk to my modelers at work and see what they think about making spairs.

Sunday and small waves on Maui.
Spent the day modifying my swallow tail that had the retractable keel (kept leaking where 3rd sevo horn lifted keel and grains of sand kept getting swing keel stuck which burnt out 3 servos)
It now has carbon bulb on bottom deck, like other Maui custom boards. Fitting engine, prop shaft and then hitting some surf next week.

Started shaping my 4th board today - using eps styrofoam, difficult to shape with no stringer, just laid up bottom deck with 5.7oz carbon before dinner.
Monday will do carbon top deck with overlapping rails.
For those who are hesitating building their own custom boards - Just Do It - it is not difficult at all - just takes time.

Aloha from Maui

Maui Boys,

Your boards are sick!!! Nice work.

I've started my first foam shape in styro the other week. As Cananzi said before building boards is really ''addictive''.

Aloha Jafahead,

I really like your styro swallow outline and keel design with its very gradual entry and flattened bottom.
I'm glad you showed that picture as it gave me an idea for my 4th swallow custom.
I really love the picture of your workshop, lots of tools everywhere covered in foam dust
Looks like something out of an old movie set.
What are your length & width measures inn cm?
Please keep us informed as to progress & performance.

Thanks for the comments guys,

Hugh the board is 750mm long by 200mm wide I used the outline of the template I sent to Joke (excepted for the tail) the rest was to complicated to shape so I just followed my mind but for sure I was greatly inspired by the picture of Maui boards that are posted on this forum.

I'have also made a few hollow board molded with the NQD shape that you may have seen. I have learned while making this one that shaping the board doesn't take that much time, the molded boards are quite long to prepare trim and then fit top with the bottom.

Here is my favorite unfinished glass teint board,
The 12K carbon hatch is going with a carbon board I've made witch I am not really happy about due to too much imperfection

JefaHead,
that sure looks good. I wish I had the space for moulding...especially for the surfer dolls. They take a long time to do, almost as long as the board...and I have learned that it is better to do the doll after the board is done...if not you just keep hearing every day...'Is my board done yeeeet???'

RC HAwaii

Still can not decide on Radio[]. I have both 75ghz and the 2.4 that I like. Maybe I should just install both and test???

Just epoxied and glassed her down to the hatch cover today! Ran out of epoxy before I could put in the motor mount...yesterday I had trouble with the UV resin and the deck bolts. The resin down deep never went off, and the bolts just spun in place[:@]

Anyways, I just dremeled them out again and used Epoxy instead...hope that works out ok, it seems fine today, and the reason I ran out of epoxy.

Should have just gone and bought some more...ended up shaping another board.
Saw it online yesterday and just had to have one...Channel Islands 'Fort Knox'...seeing how Taylor is from Carlsbad and all. I was in Kinkos late last night making the template...just coooouldn't stoppppp mmmmmyself

So, ok, this is going to be addidtive[X(] I really like shaping...its the funnest part of the build processs. Taking a broken, run down, or un-wanted surfboard (I paid $15 Craigslist) and creating a beautiful new one out of it...wow.

Good thing when I ordered from Hong Kong I ordered for three boards, and have enough glass for a dozen.

I'm sure the funnest part of the custom build will be getting wet. soon! I hoping before Christmas but maybe as early as late next week.

Will get some more epoxy in the morning...and glass the new stick.

ps...very very cold at night and early morning...just beautiful after 10am until dark.

Huge waves on Maui in the last 4 days - Pipeline Masters is going on Oahu, I have been watching/recording on HD 1250 channel for last 3 days
Those pro surfers tube rides are unreal - hope the rest of you out there also got to see the 3 days coverage
Sat morning my silver surfer suffered a engine bearing failure after just 2 bricks, came home replaced bearing and went out again in the afternoon.
Waves were about 6 foot and good - my silver surfer filled with water because my water intake tube was not connected properly after the repair - sprayed "Corrosion X" onto all and last night test has all electronics working again - lesson check and recheck your equipment before surfing.....
Sunday is windy on Maui and surf is still big - waiting for John to call me to go surf a secret spot not affected by the strong trade winds - JOHN WHERE ARE YOU???????

Wow, awesome picture!
You were surfing your RC Surfers in waves like that? What a treat that musta been!

Bummer on the flooding, Doc taught me to zip tie the tubing connections which I always do, glad your gear came out OK.

Wish you had some vids of those sessions!
