getting closer to completion & surf testing

Great stuff guys, your figures are inspiring, hoping to make a custom figure for my new build.
Still have not had time tio even gut up the hunk of foam I have to start laminating stringers and make the blank!
The pictures are helpful, thank you, the Carbon Fiber is soooo sexy and strong on the Stealth, looking forward to hearing how it surfs, hey, is there any lead in the belly of that for righting?

  SailDoggie- A tip for ya. You dont need a stringer in your board if you don't want one.  These little things can get by without.  For shaping draw a line on the foam to see symmetry.  Styrofoam is an option, but glass with Epoxy resin.     
   
   Note to All:  Carbon fiber works with Polyester Resin but is a much better product when  laminated with Epoxy. Carbon is brittle and so is Polyester Resin. (for little modles it may not matter)  Epoxy is more elastic and is the industry standard for carbon lamination.

Understood on the need for stringers K-H20, I am using them for structure for an extruded track that will be recessed into the deck...this will be a longboard design with a dude that can nose ride!

Ooohh yea, bottom turns, wait for the section, get up high on the wave and send him to the nose!

The extruded track will be glassed into the board, the figure will travel via Dyneema cords run to a sail winch drum, will be using a 2-stick 2.4GHZ Xmitter on this one.

The plans I drew include a concave nose section and a rocker design that I think will work well.

The stringers also allow me to build the blank in sections with the rough rocker shape all cut in with my band saw then laminated before shaping.

I'm making a plane safe case for one of my surfers. This one's the Kyosho and the board will be traveling from Pennsylvania to Florida quite a few times during the year. I'll need more foam and am debating whether of not to un-hook the figure from the lid of the board.

This crossbow case is not only plane safe (hopefully) but also big enough to hold everything that's needed to run and repair.

Stealth Swallow ready for water & surf - just watched surf report on news 8ft-12ft high surf advisory in effect for north shores of all islands.

John - see what I mean about flexi steering tube from servo (green antenna tube) much better throw on fins.
My surfer dude is painted but I do not like it, as it looks kinda gay.........will try to change appearance after some thrashing.

REALLY like the Crossbow case too!
TSA may make you open it if it is small enough to carry on.

When traveling by air, if you have LiPo batteries, they MUST be carried on with all terminals taped off to prevent contact. They are strictly disallowed in checked luggage.

The screeners saw the liPo's every time and opened my carry on to check to check them out.

Yo Doggie - Thatis cool bra!! I cant wait tosee the pose on the nose,kick the rudder out and drift 360!! That is a great way to start out your board witha rocker profile. I have alwaysbuilt with styrofoam and have hotwired my blanks.
!!!!! If you areusing an airplane radio " 2 stick "yoursurface speed controler will not work !!!!

Hmmm...a Marine ESC will not work with an aircraft radio?

  Saildoggie- Your 3 channel options are the slide bar on your surface radio, or Marine adapting a plane ESC. I use the Castle Phoenix Ice 100 and glued brass cooling tubes to the green aluminum case. It has worked fine for about 9 mo. now. Stays plenty cool enough.   I can walk you thru it if you want to go that route.   It is not real easy doing throttle on a stick.       Aloha,    KH

Thursday - Maui North Shore was going off early today with waves in the 6ft to 8 ft range,.
Got 3 hours of rc surfing in before the wind finally came up at 10:30am
Use 3 of my 4 custom boards today - very cool as they all ride differently.
No friends were around to get photos - so I stopped and shot some windsurfing on the way home (see picture).

you must be kidding me why wont a airplane radio work with a marine ESC , I have used a car radio in a rc surfer with no trouble K-H2o, tell us why it wont work john maui

  John-  The way the surface radios work with the ESCs are set up diffrently than the Air Radios and  ESCs. Car and marine are  the same both surface.  I hit a giant glitch when I wanted to use my Air- transmitter to have the 3 channel set-up. Guy/ rudder/ Throttle. I didnt know why it wouldn't work, but our buddy Steven at Offshore Electric explained it to me.   Aloha,  KH

Happy New Year all!
Will do some testing on the radio gear, still have to order a motor and ESC.
Laminated a blank yesterday and did a bit of shaping today, the twin stringers are to support and aluminum "C" shaped extrusion that will be flush mounted between them for strength. My laid back longboard pretty verticalstyle dude or dudette will travel the length of the board for stylin' surfing!

Planning on glassing at least the bottom prior to cutting a rectangular hole to get the battery at least and propbaly the motor down low inside for righting moment so a foam "keel" will be shaped, hollowed out and glassed on the inside and then on to the bottom of the board.

Will do a final clean up on the shape when I get some glass and resin.

Surface rc stuff includes cars, trucks, and boats. Air is planes and helicopters.
They are slightly differently frequency for safety I believe.

Thanks Justin, the board is really kinda experimental, I plan on learning from it and hopefully improving the design.

Understoof on the Freq. difference, have used this radio on RC sailboats and also land sailors, simply use the reciever that is paired to it..is the FCC gonna get after me, I don't thinks so...2.4 GHZ is pretty secure once paired, there could be dozens of RC aircraft around and I would not "hit them" with my transmissions...

I do not see why the ESC will not work, the reciever gives it a signal, it responds in kind...

Wish I had more time to build, household chores and prepping for skiing with my snowboarding daughter and buds tomorrow...

Thanks for the kind words on the shaping but seriously not my best effort, a work in progress on the prototype end, may loose some of the "bump" after the gear gets fitted, especially the drum winch.
This foam took me for a bit of a surprise, it shapes almost a little TOO easily, got the rails thinner than I wanted but gonna see how it works!

Shaped a few really fun rideable boards in my college years, in fact sold one of the in Mexico on a surf trip so we could extend our trip and still have gas $$ to get home!!

Wish I had more time for building, off skiing tomorrow!

Need to get some glass cloth, is 4 oz. sufficent...toying between epoxy and cheaper styrene based resin...
