Stayloni ...its a pleasure to 'Share the STOKE !

That motor should work just fine !......good preparation and good maintenance is all part of assuring a good day at the beach.

I have never run a production board - but I know the Champions like JIMI FINDRIX from Aus run a 3900kv Leopard motor on 2s with great success.

hey stalyoni been running a 2200kv motor with a stock 30mm 1.4pitch prop on my NQD... goes heaps good on 3S lipo any faster will need a new hull... part of the reason why i'm watchin this forum to get the vibe on whats happenin for the bigger waves... the little surfers like ours go great under 6ft but........

Sand in the cooling pipes is an issue on beach breaks.... I use a tomato sauce squeezy bottle (full of water not sauce lol) to reverse flush the cooling system after every run... squirty end fits over the tubes good and sometimes i use between runs if grovelling on the beach after being greedy takin the wave all the way in..

Camera hat cool.... atm my plan is to get the camera in front of my head so i can see the screen as well.....

Glad to see you and powerpack excited.... thats why rc surfin hey surfin in general is so good cause it will never be perfected and the learning and fun along the way no matter how long it takes keeps the enjoyment alive...

hey stalyoni you mentioned your motor was cooking........ it seems unusual as we are both running very similar cooling systems... inoticed you run intake one side suction the other.... i think.... I'm not sure so adding an old photo of the intake tubes atthe front and the suctiontubes at the rear of how i havemy ones angled... Front intakes go to the lower end of motor or esc and outlets at rear suck itout with forward motion....

Just check thatyour water flowfor motor and eschas in and out angled correctly without restriction... if mechanically ok you can then move on to the prop, motor kv and all the other variables!

Howzit Powerpark............... thanks for sharing that .......I love seeing the various rcsurf spots around the world and putting a face to a name.
Your dude looks very comfortable on the board........righting nicely...........good maneuverability.......

Isn't it great what STOKE rcSurfing offers......whether you are pulling that one cool move on the sweet spot of a wave .............or simply sharing the concept with 'yet another' totally amazed passer bye............its always good.

Bye the way.......did those surfers actually catch a wave ?.......or were they just testing wet suites..........LOL

Enjoyed your marine tank as well !

hey all, so the bug bit me too. been into rc since the grasshopper and someone on a bobyboard forum linked to a youtube rc surfing vid. prolly one of the coolest things i've seen. so was on the net looking for a surfer, trying to get through an enormous thread here and just as i begin to find out how rare the kyosho surfer dudes are, i passed on one on ebay. didn't make the same mistake twice, and found another soon later and it is now in build phase.
i am only on page 93 or so over the past few weeks and the thread grows faster than i can keep up, but from what i have read/seen i am quite impressed with your builds. from performance mods to amazing paint schemes i had no idea what was possible. then i saw custom shapes...wow!

as i am still tryin to get through the thread and may have overlooked something i glanced over, where is it discussed about brushless motor / esc and prop configs using nimh?

thanks,

aaron

Maui report Tuesady 9am:
been checking all the beach cams and The Big Swell has still not arrived
should hit in next 6-8 hrs is my guess - although news said it would hit late Monday afternoon.

Here's a beach cam of my most rc surfed spots on Maui north shore (waves close to beach, easy retrieve & launch in board shorts)
cam shows where most kids/boogie boards ride - I move slightly down the beach to camera left.

4 different rc surfers charged, camera gear loaded into truck..............waiting

Really love the description they use...

Paia Bay has extra soft sands, crystal clear water, and is just steps from Paia town. Most of the time this is a quiet beach with only a few people, unless the waves are in...then the noise kicks up and bodyboarders and surfers fill the beach.

I hate waiting!

Maui report for Tuesday: Outer reefs breaking at 20-30ft

Paia Bay 6 hours of intense rc surfing in 4-8ft beach break waves and 12 batteries, used 4 different models - no breakages
(waves crowded & messy at times with lots of kids skipping school for this swell)

Came home to re-grease prop shafts and re-charge 12 bricks - lost 3 of the 4 channels on my Turnigy charger.
Ordered new 4 channel charger & new power supply from A Main Hobbies by UPS 2nd Day Air - cannot survive only being able to charge 1 brick at a time.
Now I will be able to charge 6 at once!

Pictures showing my truck loaded with 4 rc surfers and iphone picture of surf on way to the beach.

Bigger tomorrow...............?

Howzit Hugh.....

Man the surf sounds Hug(h)e...LOL.....your crowded van reminds myself of my younger days - all piled into a mates panel van, heading up the coast to find our own little 'weekend secret surf spot'.......LOL........good news that nothing broke through out the session...testimony.......make the best of it mate ......its been a long spell for you all in Maui !
Looking forward to some more action video.......from the Maui Boyz!

I'm still overcoming the flu - so my latest build is on hold and no surfing for me either...Dr's orders....

Ive been re-reading this forum......its always so' interesting.....plenty of info.....ALSO........plenty of seriously 'good laughs'.....especially now knowing most all concerned.

I'm seriously thinking of bringing in the inexpensive QD's currently on offer - upgrading them to a brush-less 3900kv mootor- 2s set up and then on selling them at say ZAR 2850 ($350) - excluding batteries- as a cheaper entry level option to the Custom Build........

Shred it apart Maui Boyz !

YPC   Hope your feeling better. It takes a while to get over that. I think you are on the right course with the beginer board. The kyosho boards are very hard to find and getting expensive. A board priced around 250 -350 will get new people into the sport. Remember they have to buy and radio and charger and a few batterys. It adds up. But once they are in there is really nothing else to buy. Maybe a few props and a rudder. That is the good thing. Its a good hobby. I enjoy taking things apart and rebuilding them and making them better. What do you think about a jet ski for the surf? Im looking to build one this winter. Cya later.

Howzit Powerpark....thanks for the 'GWS' ( get well soon)

Having spent quite some time on the beaches talking to folk and responding to the web enquirers with regards to the ******** costing- its evident that a less expensive, yet capable option is needed for many folk to get into it.

Costing in the HK 2.4 G radio @ $14 ....the simplest of balance chargers are a few dollars and the 2s lipos (x3) are around $25 a piece - so all in it wont be all bad. $ 450 - ready to go !

I reckon - from what I have seen others have achieved with the QD - once I have done the neccesary upgrades and mods - it will be a great fun board for anyone coming into the sport.....there on out, they can either build their very own custom board or purchase a Custom built board.

Yea if you keep it under the 500 mark. It could work. I would like to sell them on the beach. But someone carrying around five hundred large is hard to find. The point is that everyone I talk to wants one. "Hey where did you get that" They think I got it on the boardwalk, sold in a store. Maybe a rc store on the beach would work. Or sold in a surf shop near the beach. There are alot of kids and big kids on the beach. Right up the beach I can see Alantic City Casinos. Maybe a big winner may start up a store. Food for thought!

Howzit Guys !........

All sounds good.....dont know if I would like to trade during 'my surf time' down at the beach...Hey PowerPark.....folk can make EFT payments into you bank account from their cell phones........Who carries big cash nowadays......

I continually consider how to enforce the responsibility we need to apply in educating all users as to the safety/consideration for others using the water......
The Stock production board ( out of the box) certainly does not pose a threat to anyone.....but once we up the performance - increase the speed /weight - the ******** becomes a small projectile quite capable of drawing blood.......

There are a good few videos on this sight that display really fast boards wizzing past a few bathers 'rather close'......to close for comfort....

Municipalities/Beach control in SA would not hesitate to close our public beaches to ********s if any such unfortunate incident happened.......that would be a sad day !

Look Who's Back!

He has been collecting dust ever since Maui went home after Bro Down #2.

Boy did he charge this morning!

...and the Boyz really took notice today!

Over the last month or so they have gotten used to me and the 'Divas...they were not prepared for the Dude!

Face it ...he surfs like Dude!

Tearing up faces, making section, having his way with whatever was left for him, He DOMINATED the Surf Today! I'm sure we could have gotten in the lineup and allowed a set wave or two...that good.

We did lose our head again...It washed in so not worries.

Funny thing...Everyone pick up their game!

The pressure to do better than a 14 inch Surf phenom was intense...there was a great ride after this guy falls off!

Performance...Through the ROOF!
Run times DOUBLE!
Motor,ESC,Battery...all cool to the touch.

One Guy came up and said he didn't see the Dude at first...he thought he was hearing a dolphin and was looking for it in the surf.

I use all the same components as Maui John.

I am sad to say that my boards leave me wanting...maybe this is why I let the dust collect....I took Melika with us and she saw it all....the Divas are not happy at all...On the way home I heard talk of moving to Maui![:@][:@]

I have to act now and act fast!

Good thing I like foam dust and the smell of resin...
I still have a ways to go.

PS. My advise for anyone wanting to start RCSurfing....

save your money, beg and plead with Maui John to make you a Surfer...

Hands down The Best Surfer on the Planet!

You really are just kidding yourself if you use anything else...
I mean no offense, but I have surfed everything since the original Kyosho days and have seen all the recent videos.

So if it was me...I would email John right away...before he gets tired of making them for other people.
I don't even want to Surf my own models after today...probably won't until I can make a new one hoping it's closer to the Maui********

Pay once...cry once!
