RE: RC Surfer
Hi Guys,
As well as the board John is buiding me also now have a "New In The Box Yellow Lisa" on her way from Hong Kong.
After reading a bit I didn't think one board was gonna be enough to keep me shredding.
I will be talking with John about parts and help as well as reading the rest of this forum looking for ideas.
This will be my first effort at modifying one for myself although I will probably base it on John's XT Pro model for starters.
I intend to paint it myself, can I use "Lacquor Paint Spray Packs"on these boards?
This sure is one sick surf scene you got goin' here.
Whatever It Is "Surfcurls" Put A Spell On Me

Well here's exactly my point of thinking outside the box, but you'll have to go a little farther. My boards (Dude and Lisa) run BONE DRY! At one point I had 10 battery packs and would run back to back batterys in the water 3+ hours No water so no spunge, sham wow, no tampon is needed.
As far as my Kyosho Dude for sale I was selling it for $750.00 but due to the economy I'd sell it for $500.00 + shipping

RE: RC Surfer
Thanks BB,
Inspiring words, I hope I can learn to perform at that level of confidence.
I have been talkin' to Ed @ RC Surfrider, just sussing out parts and availability.
I gather you might know him.
I m very interested in your board for $500.
Perhaps I can buy it off you and get you to send it to Ed for the mods.
If you know him well I could pay him for the board, modifications and delivery to australia
He could pay you your $500 on delivery of the board.
We can work it out.
Surfers made of gold, slip into the sea, eventually.

Ok BB
I have decided I don't want to buy the board after all.
It was just an idea.
I will work on my Lisa and look at other offers when she is up and running.
Thanks heaps for the offer and other info.

RE: RC Surfer
Yowza, waxing metal surfaces?
A while back , I see Yowza mentions using a thin film of wax on scews and metal parts to help prevent corrosion.
The slide wax used by skimboarders to polish up the bottom of their boards is very fine and sofr, nothing like surfboard wax.
It could be used for the anti-corrosion idea and would be easy to wipe off and keep parts clean as it is so fine it is almost unnoticable.
Even if your board is perfectly watertight you never know when something could go wrong and as the general marine environment is not really a great place for unprotected metals this idea makes a lot of sense to me.
This type of wax is also a very good lubricant.
I am interested in anything that will help protect the investment and keep the boards in the water.
Peaking waves all around, RC Surfers going up and down.

RE: RC Surfer
We Add Marine grease to the deck screw nuts, so every time you screw the deck down, you are lubing the screws too
Plus, We are sending you all Stainless Steel Screws, So it's not an issue...
Your Board Only has aluminum, brass or stainless, so nothing will rust or corrode [8D]

ORIGINAL: Jimi Findrix
Thanks Goggz,
With no knowledge in RC of any kind I think I am in for a steep learning curve.
I am reading as much as I can about this stuff because I am already so addiced and I have not even got my first board yet.
I am stoked to be dealing with John he is obviously a legend in this sick scene.
After what I have read so far, I am very paranoid about getting any water in my expensive little board.
I am also interested in Ideas that will help my XT Pro go better and withstand the situations I intend to put it in.
As you would probably know, West Oz has some powerful surf and I don't want to kill my surfer.
I will watch the video that comes with my board and talk to John about any problems I have or modifications I will wnt to try.
I'm so glad I found this forum because I have been Emailing John for days and just bombing him, so now I have a few other shredders to learn from also.
So Freakin' Stoked.
I'll be back.
Jimi

Having no stick time (RC controle) a good idea would be a second hand RC car, you can always find a stretch of dirt or pavement to run on and controles and movement are about the same. I live 3 miles from the beach and I still can't get there as much as I would like too, so I find myself grabbing the Mini T and tearing up the streets and shreading driveways around my house! Stick time is KEY! and a Rc car is a fast and quick way to get it. Hope this helps. [8D]

RE: RC Surfer
Thanks BB,
I was really stoked to wake up and find your questions this morning.
As I am a RC virgin, I have been doing a lot of research over the last week.
Firstly, what type of Batteries will I be using?
7.2v (6-Cell) Ni-mh 3800mAh
According to John, I should get about half an hour run time.
I intend to only use as much power as needed to maximize time in the water.
Second, what Charger?
HPI AC DC Patrick with Banana to Deans connector.
Seems like a good charger for $99 Aus.
Let me know what you think.
Third, what Radio / Battery?
Good question?
I did think about this and forgot again.
I only know that the the "Surcurls" models use a 75Mhz transmitter, but I don't know what brand or model.
Johnny? Please, spill the beans.
Finally, Stick Time?
I have no interest in other forms of RC, I am a surfer.
I start work at 11am 5 days, and I go to the beach early every morning (most days) for an hour or two.
There are a lot of breaks around here that are perfect for RC Surfing and I know them well.
I will be getting all the stick time I need, that is, as long as my gear is running properly.
Any one interested in RC Surfing take note John Pontrelli @ "Surfcurls is great.
One last thing BB,
Never ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, stop Surfing / RC Surfing.
"Are You Experienced? Have You Ever Been Experienced?" (no not yet, but I am learning fast)

As I am a guitarist,
I do have an interest in Radio Transmitters for guitar, but they are very expensive for a good one of course.
They also change your tone a bit so I don't bother.

The transmitter i got with my package was a Hitec aggressor and it is the 1st two channel radio ive had... so im as new to it as you..
Aswell as been a surfer myself i can read the waves actions and found it a non issue to surf the XT in the 3weeks ive had it ive done sum fun stuffs ie. racing sections like mini G land!! pulled a 360 off the lip to my mates delites i carnt type what they said but they seamed stoked.. manged sum decent top turns into the pit to race it along again..
The thing i regret is not having the extra batterys (got sum ordered in the post) There's nothing like watching perfect swells and good tides wasting and having to wait for a charge. so if i was you get sum extra batterys
My local surf break is a large shingle river mouth and it dose pump.. We get alot of the swell you guys get in Aussie but its nothing like W.A's Power.. So far ive had to renforce the dudes ankles / legs with insulation tape and carbon fibre rods for a quick fix.. cause he was gona break, mangaed to stressed tho's areas to the max! The swell size (just over head for the dude) but it was doubling up for sum cool looking rides..
Now i carnt wait for my next 4days off work

RE: RC Surfer
Thanks Mate,
Sounds like you are having a great time with the little Dude.
I have 4 batteries on the way for starters, that should keep me goin' if it is worth hangin' around for an hour or two.
Yeah about the Dude, I trust John but I know I don't want to break the Dude so we will have to see how he holds up.
Carbon fibre rods and foot straps you say?
I want some. I need some, I'm gettin' some. Ha Ha Ha

RE: RC Surfer
By the way Goggs
If you can get any shots of your board in the surf see if you can put a couple on here so we can see.
I have a couple of Gath hats that I use all the time now, one has a Oregon ATC3K video camera mounted on it.
You can take video and then take still shots from it. The video quality is quite good for a cheap one and it has a 4GB SD Card thingy.
As I will probably be doing a lot of the RC Surfing on my own I am gonna wear the helmet and film all my sessions.
Even if a lot of the footage is junk, I will surely get some good stuff every now and then.
Just need to learn how to show it on here. I'm not that good with computers but I just go on a need to know basis.
