Headed to the Promised Land....
Hooked up with InDaTube in the Afternoon, we headed to his secret Spot...MAN!, I thought the road to San Carlos was bad...I must have cussed Larry out a dozen times for leading me onto this road from Hell...once we got there it was pretty ok...just too windy...we are both pretty spoiled it seems. Talked shop, and learned alot from IndaTube, stuff I will be incorporating in future builds for sure.
Here is a short clip of my morning session at Cottons.

RE: RC Surfer
Howzit Kite.......sounds like you guys had quite a rcSurf adventure.....I used to really enjoy those 'off the beaten track' surf weekends, not knowing what one would find when you get there. No WEB surf reports to rely on......just the local weather man.
The wave at Cottons looked good.......quite close in with no white water walls to overcome on your way out to sap our precious Amps.....it must have been great fun.
I see you slowed the footage for effect...your board seems to have good speed and has a very nice fluid turn / quite steady.
I would really like it if you could share the 'ins and outs' of the SoloShot. Where the transponder is placed in/on the board etc...etc I may want to invest in one in the near future .
It would be nice if the size of the board 'in frame' was just a touch bigger.....
Maybe the 'transponder is losing its bind in certain situations - does it have an antenna ? and is it powered.
In you YouTube description you mention that the wave is a Left (it should be a Right)
I am taking the family to Disney next year somewhere between May and September - We have been to Disney World Paris and Disney World Orlando I am thinking of Disney Land California so that I could possibly hook up with a few of you guys and have a Bro Down......would that be an option......how far is it from you ?

RE: RC Surfer
Stunning workmanship Hugh !.......definitely raised the 'bar' a few inches.
It would be sacrilege to spray that masterpiece....
May you have 'many many hours' of great surfing with it !

RE: RC Surfer
It was great to hang with Kite.......
He loves Cottons Point, but he rides his bike to the break. I don't have a bike and it would look pretty lame for us to "Ride Double" into Cottons...... lol
Kite has a wealth of knowledge and experience....... so many builds, for pete's sake...... he had three or four boards in his van!!
He grabbed one of his 5s NanoTech batteries and bingo it fits in my board........ Looks like InDaTube 1.9 will have both a Leopard motor & 5s batteries.
Thanks Kite...

RE: RC Surfer
Hey Hugh,
That new carbon beast looks amazing!
I noticed you've gone to a more rounded shape at the pod front compared to your previous carbon build. Any reason?
Also a question re. paint - do you have issues applying an epoxy clear coat over paint? I seem to get a really uneven finish over the painted areas....

RE: RC Surfer
RC Crew - thanks for the positive remarks on the new carbon build.
In Da Tube - painting the carbon top deck is important so that it does not get super hot in the Hawaiian sun, also easier to see when out on the water.
Barrels; rounded pod nose is same as my 1st Silver Surfer build, which works so well, so I did same again.......
painting over epoxy can be difficult when using paint or clear coat epoxy as I often get "fish eye effect" due to some type of contamination.
I do not have a fix for this as every time I do a clear coat it works ok in some areas and fish eyes in other places.
I think I will try to use polyester finish resin next time - although I know that Polyester resin does not attach well to most epoxy resin finishes.
Perhaps someone else has solution to this problem.....?
I tried testing new swallow tail build today but had weird electric issues with motor not working 100%.
Will try to fix this weekend between racing shifter go carts & rc off road races
Maui had great north swell today with +10ft on outer reefs. I managed to break a leg on Silver Surfer which is now in epoxy cast for next session

RE: RC Surfer
Hey,
I had the problem of not getting full 100% power as well.
MJ showed me how to calibrate the throttle between the transmitter radio and the ESC.
Took 3 minutes.....Worked like a charm........ hope this helps.

RE: RC Surfer
Hugh........check the 3 phase motor connectors.....I find that if they are making poor contact due to corrosion or a dry solder....the motor plays up.
