Hey Guys,
Has any one used MaHa Powerex batteries for their 8xAA Tx?
I usually buy in bulk AA's - what ever brand I get a decent deal on - Powerizer, Tenergy, Powatech etc. Believe they are all much of a muchness. I use plenty between RC and Photography. I have only had 4 bad batteries from over 300 I have purchased the past 3 years.

Tandy or Dick Smiths has a reasonable universal charger that will charge 4 x AA's (and other sizes) but it does not tell you when they are charged. They might have other options specific to AA's. Certainly having a quick charge option never hurts. Best charger I have found (reasonably priced) was one from Duracell which charges 4 x 2600mah in 15 minutes - it has a cooling fan to keep the cells from overheating. Also connects to 12v. I am not sure what options you have available there though as US runs 110v.

Hello all,
Im Dave from Utah-I have been watching the board for a while and figured I'd jump in and say hello. I recently picked up a RC Surfer from Steve and have been working on it for the last couple weeks. I have been into rc everthing for the last 10 years and have really enjoyedrefurbishing this surfer. I have only had it out a couple timeson a recenttrip to Cailf. But will use itmainly on the lakeby my house. I have friends with large Wakeboard Boats that kick 4 foot swells so the summer should be a riot. Thankyou toall that have posted because this forumhas been agreat sorce of info.Scuba Steve has been awsome!! Before and after pics included !

Hey there, been out of the water for the last 2weeks doing up grades!! Removed all the marine epoxy around the surf boards seams.. Replaced with u'PVC weld cement.. nice clean looking joins nows.. moved antenner off deck area... then it was fitting a rcsurfriders rudder kit, finished it off with a undercoat paint.. Test ran it today on the river (glassy n smooth) seams like it's got to much power (3200rpm/kv)bouces around wildly added weight and dropped a prop size (430) ran again a little more smoother but not buy much!! Any idea's???
The rudder kit is mean 180 snaps are a breeze will take a bit to get use to.. took it for a blast in sum small waves tonight.. scored a few rides till the battery died then i managed to snap the rudder fin off.. back to fibre glassing i'll post pic's if i figgered out how [:'(]
cheers

Jocktime,
Awesome stuff.
Goggz,
Sounds like you have been very busy,
Me too.
I got my board from JP and on about the 6th surf I was running it along a groyne in town and got lip launched into the rocks, the board ended up upside down in a hole in the rocks at the the waterline and copped about half a dozen grinders the dude lost his head and an arm and his leg is badly cracked.
That was 9 days ago.
I have resealed the hull and repainted the board I ham also building another one and sealed and painted it too.
I will be putting the motors in over the next day or two.
I have got some Traxxas antenna tubes and some little red bullet connectors so I can disconnect the antenna wire when I remove the deck.
I have also discarded the rubber grommet and replaced it with a piece of the water cooling pipe, these fit real snug in the hole and add support to the tube, they also look way better and will last a lot longer.
I have some of the Red plastic Octura 431 props in the mail.
I have 1 Dude that I got from John and also managed to source 5 new Dudes for $250.00 from someone on the net, so I should be doing a few more boards in the near future.
I am interested in your RUDDER KIT MODS.
Where did you get the parts, from BB.
I really want to change the plastic rudders for some brass ones, I don't really like the plastic ones very much, but they will do for now.
I will get some pics as soon as I have put everything back together.

Default RE: RC Surfer

Dudes,
After killing 2 dudes in 2 weeks I have spent a bit of time designing my homemade "Jimi" Dude.
He is made of rubber insulation tube with stainless steel rods for a skeletal core, the rods are surrounded by jelly rubber and this is slipped inside the outer insulation tube.
He has a ping pong ball for a head with little pet rock style eyes and F/F retic fittings for feet.
He attaches to the board with the standard o-ring set up.
He holds his shape well and is virtually indestructible as far as breaking of limbs and head. You can kick him around the room like a football.
He looks cool and surfs great.
I have made about six "Jimi's" in various sizes and each one has evolved to counter the various problems that I have come up against.
He keeps his o-ring pressure and the board always rights itself properly.
My boards are running well and no water is getting in to the hull or the motor cavity.
I have replaced the pushrods for the rudders with thicker 1.6mm SS rods which are made from the welding rods that I use to strengthen "Jimi" dudes.
I also made rubber buffers to stop the tube that the rod runs through flexing.
I changed the props to red plastic Octura X431, they work quite well.
I also used some silicon tube to replace the antenna gromet and installed Traxxas antenna tubes and some little red bullet connectors so I can disconnect the antenna when I take the deck off.
Anyway, I am off on a dawn patrol, first light in half an hour, bit of swell and offshore.
See ya.

Hi all

I'm back from my winter hiatus. I see many new posts and some AWSOME new boards. It's going to take me a while to catch up on the thread and posts.

Here is some new video of my Lisa...... Sorry, my waves can't match that of Hawian waves.

Poor little Lisa cracked her leg during this photo-shoot.

Hi altogether!<o></o>

<o></o>

I'm a newby and I checked all 26 (!) pages of the RC-surfer thread.<o></o>

The very first thing I'd like to say is:<o></o>

You guys are awesome!!!<o></o>

<o></o>

I just purchased an NQD-Lisa from <st1:country-region w:st="on">UK</st1:country-region> (unfortunately not available in <st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1lace w:st="on">Germany</st1lace></st1:country-region>) and I'll try to sum up the major mods I will need for decent control, no leaks and self-rightening.<o></o>

A stronger motor/ESC/LiPo comes later (time, money...).<o></o>

I allowed myself to add some intermediate questions between the steps:<o></o>

<o></o>

1.) Change RC to proportional system incl. watertight ESC for standard motor<o></o>

Intermediate question: Is this a standard Mabuchi 540?<o></o>

<o></o>

2.) Re-route antenna cable<o></o>

Intermediate question: Why can't I just leave the antenna cable inside? That works perfectly in my RC planes and cars and the surfer is never further away from me than 20-30 meters.<o></o>

<o></o>

3.) Tighten shaft and rudder tubes with epoxy<o></o>

<o></o>

4.) Laminate 2-3 layers of glass onto the main deck lid to stiffen it<o></o>

<o></o>

5.) Use another (thicker) rubber seal for the main deck lid<o></o>

Intermediate question: Anything additional I can do to tighten the round rudder-lid in the back?<o></o>

<o></o>

6.) Replace std. screws by stainless steel screws to the utmost extend<o></o>

<o></o>

7.) Rubber or neoprene washers for the main lid screws<o></o>

<o></o>

8.) Seal main hull seam with epoxy and glass (= laminate main hull seam)<o></o>

<o></o>

9.) Put in sponges or tampons ;-)<o></o>

<o></o>

10.) Seal Lisa figure with epoxy<o></o>

<o></o>

11.) Add lead in keel or laminate it on outside hull<o></o>

<o></o>

12.) Paint all non-stainless steel metal parts<o></o>

<o></o>

13.) Put grease into shaft and rudder tubes<o></o>

<o></o>

<o></o>

Is there anything I've forgotten?<o></o>

(Again: A stronger motor/ESC/LiPo comes when the lady is tight! ;-))<o></o>

<o></o>

Thanks for any input!!<o></o>

<o></o>

Take care<o></o>

Rainer<o></o>
