I Had A Wholesale Account For Boards From China,
My Account Was Supplied From A California Warehouse.
Since Last Year, They No Longer stock the board.
The NQD Is Nearly Gone At This Time,
So PRICES Had to go up, Basic Supply And Demand.

Default RE: RC Surfer

I've just modified board number 7. The first board died from the motor mount breaking, Second from actually breaking the board on a reef, Third broke the plastic pillar where the nut sits. Fourth, cracked the nose of the board on a very bigshore-break (now i use nose cones), Fifth went out to sea, never seen again (actually made the newspaper for it...) 6th still have with no problems after 8 month, 7th brand new.

NQD boards are cheap, however modifying them the way I do takes some time so I prefer to have a great set up that isreliableand watertight so my electronics stay nice and dry. I have been on the same ESC and motor now for about a year. When your boarddoesn'tleak or vibrate, it will last you a long time.

For the Woombara team to mass produce an RC Surfer that is going to be a profitable success, they need to eliminate all the problems that the NQD board experiences and be about twice the price to manufacture and NQD surfer or they will only sell a few hundred boards, not 10,000s. They will need to sell 10,000 if they are going to find a company that will manufacturer them in massquantity just to cover their costs. To get a company to produce amoldis a small fortune in itself!!

They also need to:
Buy in mass bulk all components,
They need to outsource all production toAsiaand have them built by a company that meet ISO9001 quality standards,
Patent their design in China (good luck with that), and
Communicate with domestic retailers on interest in their product.

If i was part of the Woombarra team i would work with theChinesemanufacturers who currently making the NQD boards and have them make all thenecessarymodificationsand locate the cheap but effective electronics required. If they want to get them into toy stores (if you want to make serious money, you will need to) you will need to make the production cost of each unit no more than $40. Any more than this and they will have to be be their own retailers for the product as pushing it into store will be very difficult. Maybe that is what they want anyway. TheChineseare very good atmanufacturingproducts verycheaply, i know they could make a decent surfer for this price. However, it would probably still not be as good as what i amoperatingnow.

I wish them luck.

Jesus Curly,

Do you need me to hold your hand and walk you through every damn step....

That quantity is what they ARE ABLE to produce and supply, if you actually make the F#%kingeffortto contact them directly, you will find out they can do quantities as little as 6.

Dude, your ignorance isunbelievable and almostintolerable.

I make boards for myself, why would I have modified more than 7?? And considering my latest board have been going 8 months without changing a shaft, motor or esc or experiencing any problems, which is probably more than what i can say for yours.

Large orders my ass, you are the kingpin of nosecones and neoprene seal and thats about it.

Do us all afavorand use this forum to give advice and share ideas and experiences. Plug your overpricedproducts somewhere else.

Hey Crazy Dudes,

This is my homestyle Dude (JIMI).
He is lighter than the Lisa and even Dude figures.
He can do massive airs and ALWAYS selfrights quickly.
He attaches just like theother figures.
He cost about $20 to make.
He is a legend.
Many onlookers have commented that they like him better than an Original Dude.
Reckon he has got more character.

Sebski,
That is my worst nightmare, you know, the board that was never seen again.
I have had to swim or paddle out a few times on rescue missions.
A rip and a strong offshore can have your Dude on his way to China in a flash.

More on the Jimi Dude.
I have not used the JIMI Dude for quite a while because I have been experimenting with the Originals.
He really is cool.
He is about the 4th or 5th one I have made.
He took a bit of evolution to solve al the problems.
Virtually unbreakable, you can kick him around the room like a football.
As I have a couple of spare decks I think I will fix him up a bit and give him a run.

That new guy Luke that I mentioned the other day wants me to make him one.
He reckons the JIMI Dude is great.
I hope Bob's around so I can get some pics of JIMI in action.

Sea Ya Crew

At least those who use follow this forum will start buying elsewhere and not be ripped off by sellers like you, that was my original aim.

You can sell your $1.50 o'rings and $300 leaky Lisa's to suckers elsewhere.

Now that makes me smile : )

Jimi,

Yeah, it is a pain when you have to go and save her. I haven't had to get her i a long time, but i remember doing it a few times when I first started out. I always wearboard-shortswhen I take her to the beach, the first time I was in normal clothes in the middle of winter.

What are you making your dude figure from?

Sebski Dude,
Do you like him?

1.6mm SS Welding Rod, Skeletal core.
Various dimensions of Insulation foam tubing. Arms Legs and Torso.
F/F Retic fittings feet.
Table tennis ball head.

It took a bit of brainstorming to overcome each problem I encountered.
But there is an answer to each problem if you think about it for a while.

No ****.
This guy surfs better than a Kyosho Dude, and the worst thing that happened was his head fell off and floated out to sea.

I am sure I can make an even better one every time I try.'
I have just put it on the backburner for a couple of months to concentrate on other areas of the gear. (Wingnuts, CF etc.)

Sea Ya.

Hey Seb,

Perhaps I can make you one, oneday.
Second thoughts.

YOU PROBABLY SHOULD DO IT FOR YOURSELF.

I know you will agree with that.

If you do try to make one I will help you if I can.
Perhaps you will make further improvements in your version.

Nice  dude, jimi !  Do you know what he weighs ? Also, how tall is he?  I'm thinking of  modifying my chinese Lisa to make her stand a little lower on the board, like the Kyosho dude. Anyone know how tall a Kyosho dude is ?  How about weight ?  If I can get Lisa to bend down lower ( jesus, that sounds kinda creepy !!)  I think she will look more authentic, and it might help her self right better.

I was looking to do the same with the lisa. I wonder if you could heat up the ankles and knees and bend into a lower stance. The china nqd plastic isridiculouslysoft so if you apply heat slowly more n more untill you could bend the area it might work!! I thinkImight give it ago.

LMAO ive seen first hand how soft the hulls are!!!

Hey John 'hardcore surfer' Pontrelli SurfCurls - I find Sebs links and info really helpful man, way more so than your constant "come and buy it from my website" advice.

You are not the board building expert that you think you are. You're just a dude sealing up cheap chinese surfers and upgrading the crap electronics like most guys on this forum are doing.

How many rc surfers have you built from scratch? Shaped, sanded, glassed yourself from nothing?
Sebs done three.

Seb,
I honestly think, that what may seem very easy and obvious to you is not always easy or obvious to many others, at least initially.
I think everyone here knows that they can get components cheaper if they really try.

Sometimes, people just want  a start and don't mind spending more than you do.
Even if it is a lot more.
As they learn and build up confidence then they can become more independent.
I am an example of this fact and as I learn I am becoming more independent myself.
I have been buying hulls, ESC's and batteries on ebay or other online stores as I have gained an understanding of what I need and why.
I am sure you could probably have found them even cheaper than I got them for but I am happy with my purchases and the results I have achieved so far.

I bought 10 Dudes from Wombarra Crew for $500.00Au.
I am certain that some people would say that they would not pay that much for 10 plastic surfer dolls.
But I am happy with it and I will have years of fun with them.
Making, breaking , fixing painting shredding and getting air.

So, all I am saying is, John is a very nice guy and nobody has to buy a bolt off of him if they don't want to.
Thanks to him I have learnt a lot in a very short time and my photos are my proof.
I still have a lot to learn and you are providing many of the answers I need at this point in time.

You really should be commended for sharing all of this info that you have gathered.
Thanks for all the mods tips bro.

Why are you so angry at John, do you hate him because you can buy things cheaper than he is willing to sell them?

Curlsy,
See if you can get them sent unassembled bro.
I am sure you could sell a few "single unassembled units" on, at a profit,  for those of us who don't wanna buy six.
I would go another round if I could get my hands on one in unassembled kit form at a reasonable price.
If I had one that never leaked I would be stoked, I might even like NQD hulls after all.
My experience so far is they surf well but they never stop leaking.
Seb has offered all of us the answer.
We need to get them Unassembled.
It would be a great product to add to your lines especially if they are not that cheap in US these days.
I think heaps of guys would be interested if they could seal the hull themselves and then fit out with whatever electronics and riders they want.
I just don't want six.

Go get 'em bro, I will buy one from you.

How ya goin' Dude.
Are you building a Maui style shooter too.
Seems like it is all the rage.

A few other guys on the east coast are building/running them now.
I'm gonna get a vid from Maui I think.

Looks like a bright future for RC Surfing, hey mate?

Sea Ya.

Jimi,

Don't worry about what's going on between John and I, that's between us and we deal with each other outside off this forum.

I will however, post the quotes for cheap boards in bulk when they come in for anyone who wants to buy a pack of 6.

Interestingly enough, the first quote I ever got was for 3 board assembled and 3 unassembled as I wanted to sell 3 and seal up three for personal use. So I know it is possible to order unassembled boards. Removing the epoxy from the internal seam joints after separating the board can be a tedious process and I really wanted to avoid it.

Ask Bob if he has a video camera and start uploading some footage. If you got 5 minutes offootageevery session you would have enough great footage to upload a 5 minutes of RC Surfing each week. Pictures are good, but videos rule!

Ciao,
Seb.

Default RE: RC Surfer

Hi Surfers,
I am gonna run a little theory of mine

Ok.

There is a little RC shop in Gearaldton, it is a small business.
It mostlysells a few cars,
When I started running my surfer I went in and spoke to the guy, he had never seen one before.
Now he is selling Venom boards for about $90.
He also sells 7.4v 4000mAh Venom LiPo's for $99.00
Now we buy 7.4v 4000 mAh Turnigy online for $18 + postage.
He just shook his head and said "I can't even get close".
I asked him to get me an NQD for $75, he said he can't.

My point is nobody in small business can compete with Hobby King or whatever it's called.

However, for a majority of enthusiasts to support a small business parts supplier the prices must be percieved to be at least reasonable, right?
Seb is clearly saying that "Surfcurls" pricing is way outta line, and beyond what could be considered reasonable.

OK.
Maybe this is true and perhaps my mate John P. seriously needs to reflect on all the latest developments that are being mulled on this site.

So I say to you guys.
No one can buy single unassembled NQD hulls yet, right.
But that is what we all want and need.
If this guy could supplySINGLE UNASSEMBLED UNSTICKERED WHITE NQD HULLS at a reasonable price then we would all be interested from time to time.

So I ask you all, "WHAT IS A REASONABLE PRICE FOR ONE"

$?

I reckon about $80 to $90 + post.

Come on then, lets all get our heads together here and then JP can supply us all with what we really need.

I told you some things need to be aired from time to time.
If we all work together to form a general consensus then we can lobby JP to do it.
If he considers it a profitable businessventureI am certain he will truly be an asset to all of us.

If we want to go it alone and get one when they come up for $60 and have to do a lot of work destickering and opening the hull, cleaning all the old epoxy and then reseal we still have that option.
But it will make a new ready to build unassembled hull from JP for $85 or so seem reasonable, don't you think.

Please make suggestions on a reasonable price for such a rare product, one that we will all be stoked to have access to.
