    RE: RC Surfer

    Hello Crew,
Tested the new flexshaft / coupler in Kyosho tube setup in small perfect lefts @ "Point Moore" this morning.
    It went very well.
I am still getting some water in the motor bay.
But I am pretty certain it was not coming in through the tube.
    No water in the hull.
I think I might have a leaky footpeg bolt to attend to.

I am working on something else that is pretty cool at the moment.
Should have a picture over the weekend.

    Sea ya.

I would suggest to do some research on lipos, especially how to charge them and you will find your answer.

    Seb is right mate.
Read up on 'em a bit and keep safe.
These things are real cool and quite safe as long as you know what to do with them.
Otherwise I have heard they canturn intoDYNAMITE.
Understanding discharging cutoff threshhold and charging and balancing is very important.
    Have fun readin' up Salty!!!

    RE: RC Surfer

    Hey John,

I have not used her in a while as conditions have not been good for it. I retired the first one (mo) the second had such a heavy keel it never leaned so I made a third at 35" and to scale of the lisa board as it surfs well.

It needs waves that are clean and no wind or she flips out as she is only 2.6kg and if it gets hit with the white wash it comes all the way to the beach and on to the sand as it is so buoyant. Little lisa goes under the wave when wiped out as it is so heavy which is good for shore-breaks which is all I have had to play with for months now. Conditions here of recent are not as good as in Maui.

Trust me, as soon as I can use her I will as I want some footage of her ripping up some nice clean waves. Can't remember the last time I saw waves like this!

    Whats been happening in Maui??

    Seb

I haven't needed to make more, that is until I am not happy with my latest surfer.

To be honest, to not have white foam dust from one side of the garage to the other and covering everything in between is a nice change! It's messy stuff when you start sanding it!

    skowowski

So now we have one Lisa with a tummy tuck and elephant feet, one midget, and now .............one hobbitt !!! Ha Ha! Looks good, man. I'll be interested to hear your opinion of your moded Lisa, since youn have surfed both unmodified, and now (or soon ) , modified versions. Do you think it's worth it ? My modifiedLisaseems to work great in the ocean, but I never surfed mine in original condition , so I can't compare them. I only tried stock Lisa in the pond.

I think it's cool to see more and more modified surfers out there, Dude, real Lisa, or fake Lisa ( what to call her?.... mars Lisa ? , dudette ? Risa ? ) Love the skull head, too !!

We are movinginto winter up here, so that is putting adamper on any surfing. It stinkin snowed on monday, and with the wind, it was minus 11 out !! we're not used to that kind ofweather.True, I live in Canada, butI don'tlive in an igloo or own adog sled !! Hopefully you guys will get some decent waves soon. Later !

    Sea Spirits,
Got a few little waves at pages this morning.
Only tiny but it was perfect!!!
Great fun even though it was only 1 foot faces.
I should have taken my Gath cam but I forgot.
The new coupler-shaft setup is working great.
    Still getting wet sponges.

I have to disagree with Techy Joe's idea about the connecting the pushrodlow on the servo arm.
I tried it the other day and after a couple of packsI changed it back to the top of the arm.
I just use the rudder trim dial on the Tx and set it about half way for normal surfing andthen wind it on full if the surf is tiny orwhen Ineed to escape the soup.
I like to have maximum turn if I need it, so if you get caught in the soup you can wind it on with your thumb and push through.
I reckon you would agree with that Seb.
Especially surfing in shorebreak so often.

Bob sent me another cool pic from "Point Moore" a while back.
He has been away working a lotbut the surf has been pretty cruddy most of the time anyway.
Can't wait to get some photos of the new board in action.

    G'day Crew,
Looks like the drought has finally broken.
    Should be somegood surf early.
3 to 4 foot surf with offshore wind predicted.
"Point Moore" and "Pages" are gonna be mechanical.
    Maybe even "Stockfence".
Better take my Gath-cam this time.
    Alright!!!

Yourvideos worked fine for me, loved 'em

2 of my LiPo's are playing up already.
Can't charge 'em 'cause I think the little plugs got a bit of water on them.
Now the cell balancer won't register 2 cells.

Do you guys cover over the little plugs when surfing, just in case any water gets on them?

God help me,something is always playin' up with these little rippers.

    RE: RC Surfer

    Jimi,

Cells in cheap lipo batteries can die from time to time. I do not cover my balancing plug, inside is dry so I don't bother.

To revive a dead cell, try charging it on the NiMH charger setting at around 2A for 10 minutes, you don't need to connect the balancing plug for this. Also do this away from anything that could catch fire.

Also check the wires on the balancing plug to see that a wire has not come loose.

I've had a few lipos die on me, and more often than not the cells do not match up perfectly (ie 4.17/4.19/4.11), but they still run fine.

Let me know how it goes.

    Seb,
I don't think it is the cells.
I am certain that it is the little connectors.
I got a tiny pin and cleaned the plugs a bit.
    One started working properly.
But the other one the red wire has come out of the plug.

How are the wires secured into these things?
I am sure that either a new plug or fixing the loose wires will fix the immediate problem.
How do i get the wire to stay back in?

Solder it and put some heat shrink tube over it. Check the solder on the other wires also.

At least it is just a wire needing to be soldered and not a dead cell!!!!

    Seb,
The whole pin thing came out not just the wire.
    It is still soldered.
I had a google around and read a bit about the connectors.
Found out they have the little tabs that hold them in.
Bent it back up and put the pin thing back into the plug.
But no cells are registering on the balancer.
I will keep trying to work it out.
Might see if I can get a few spare connecors too.
    Thanks.

    Seb,
Even better again, I threw it in the bin!!!
    Ordered a couple more.
At least they are only $20 each.
In the mean time I will have to try covering the charging connectors with a piece of electrical tape when I hit the water.
I just gotta work out why water is still gettin' in.
I just put new deck seals in.
I guess it has to be the footpegs.
I dunno how you do it bro!!!

I was up that late last night messin' with those packs that I missed the dawn patrol.
On the positive side, the coupler is going good and my ESC's have stopped dyingsinceI put silicone in the end and taped it up.
And my Dude is not breaking apart anymore.

I am gonna look at getting a better seal around the footpegs.
I might just silicone over the bolts.
At least then if it still leaks I will know it is not coming from there.

    Sea Ya.
