Brett, You can get them everywhere- Repco, Autobarn, Nuts&Bolts etc. They also sell the O'rings for her feet, but they are about 30 cents each.

Surfergirl,
Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha.
Awesome commitment!!!

Seb,
Man, I really do feel sorry for you mate
If that is the best surf conditions you can find, all year???
Don't get me wrong I think your model is running great.
But the waves you have to run in it sure are total garbage.
I would not even bother sending a Dude out in your best surf conditions.
That is what I call absolute junk.
Surely there has to be some better breaks you could find nearby.
But I really LOVE the big airs bro.
Hope you can find some peeling perfection at least once this year.
Watching a really good model being run by an obviously very skilled builder/operator in such short closeout crap is so wrong.
I suppose it is better than a pond, lol.

Cananzi,

I just picked up another 300 size 12 neoprene washers for $12 at a local harware store. (Parts R Us)
Same as the ones used on tech screws.
I have been using them for ages now and they are strong and perfect for our purpose, they have a blue line on the side.
Took me a few goes to find someone who could get 'em for me.
Just try a few places and you will get 'em.

New swell is starting to arrive this arvo.
Hope I find some runners in the morning.
Bob is back and keen to get started.

Sea ya.

jimi/seb

Nuts n bolts- They only had roofing screw, rubber neoprene washers but they felt to hard in density.
Repco -They had nothing except the oring stylewashers.
Bunnings - They had nothing

Clarkrubber!!!! I ended up with small rubbergrommetsthat fit perfectly on the deck bolt. They are fairly soft and have a slightly smaller side and a larger side and seem to fit reallynicelyin the bolt area.

Dunked the board very viciously underwater for a few minutes in the pool anddidn'thave water inside. Surf will be different of course but the gommets seem to be great. time will tell ;-)

Was trying to get out for a lil test run this arvy (surf looked good) but the rain was on and off.

Brett, I though you meant the tiny o'rings because I actually use them. I put a little clear synthetic grease around them and they tighten down great and seal perfectly.

I've tried neoprene but eventually the neoprene breaks and once it actually it cracked around the deck the hole.

I used the roofing screw rubber washer on one of my home made surfers and that worked also.

If you are using any type of rubber, put a little grease around it and it will screw down perfectly without buckling. Same as when you put in a new oil filter in a car, a mechanic will tell you to put a little grease on the oil filter gasket to make sure it seals properly.

Where do you go surfing? I am usually down Burleigh. We should go for a wave one day!

Shredders,
Well, the swell is here but the summer southerly has put an end to any hope of quality RC waves today.
To be honest, I can't wait 'till summer is over.

More Fun On The Way!
Andy From OZ On Another Blog Suggested A GLOBAL Video Contest.

We At Surfcurls.com REALLY Like This Idea.
Hope You All Do As SWELL.

Here Is A Bit To Start It Up !

Surfcurls.com Hereby Pledges $250 To The First Place Winner
Voted By The Rc Surfer Tribe. Which Should Include Votes From
RC Universe Tribal Commune.

The $250 Will Be payable Thru Paypal With A Valid Email Address From The 1st Place Winner. The Contest Date Range Will Be Determined By
Andy (Barrels) Or Anyone He Designates To set the contest date range.
It Was Andy's Idea, So Lets Run With It ...

To Collect The $250 Prize, The Winner Agrees To Allow Surfcurls.com to use such winning footage as we sea fit on our website With No Further
Compensation To The Winner. More Sponsors Are Welcomed To Fuel The Fun

This is a great Idea Andy, As It Is Difficult for RC Surfers Around
The Globe To Participate on a Face To Face Contest. This Way, The
World's RC Surfers Can Compete in a simple form.

Great Idea, Lets Go For It !

This Contest Started about an hour ago from RC surfer Yahoo Blog

This Blog Is WAY More Active And More Hardcore (In My Opinion)

Contest Date Range / Rules Will Be Forthcoming

But This Sounds Like Some Stoke

And As You Know, Curly Is Always In For Some Fun
Keep Filming / editing

Barrels & Curlz,

That is a very cool idea.
Keep working on it.
Maybe there could be a $25 entry fee to help boost the prize money a bit.
Hopefully another sponser might get involved. ("Wombarra" perhaps) and match "Surfcurls" prize pledge.
Best 1 wave you say?
Sounds like a lot of fun.

Who will decide the winner?
How will it be judged?

If the comp was run on the videos I have seen posted on youtube so far,
Maui would get my vote no question.

I have never done any vids yet so I will have to get onto Bob and tell him all about this idea.
Hopefully, with the assistance of Bob Fawcett's considerable skills I will be able to join in on the fun too.

Oh well,try again.

Seb,
Now that it looks like we are probably gonna be competing
for the prizemoney and the glory in a global RC Surfing video competition,
that information is obviously classified :

"TOP SECRET"

No seriously mate, I don't know and of course they do vary slightly one to another.

Probably much the same weight as your dolls i'd say.

It's a quiet Friday night, girlfriend is a sleep on the lounge and I have time to think and this is what I am thinking.

The competition should be made in to two competitions: Video and still image. Not everyone has a video camera and good still images will still probably sell RC Surfers better than video footage.

VIDEO CONTEST:

6 contests per year (every two months)
3 best waves, uploaded to YouTube by the last day of the second month.
The competition moderator/referee will rate the entrant's 3 waves out of 30 (each wave will receive a score out of a 10) and post the entrants score on the forum(s) for everyone to see the results and keep tally of all competition results.

Still image:

Competitors will post their best RC Surfing pic (only 1) on the forum(s) and then to the referee/moderator who will then score it out of 10 and will post results.

I will give first place in the still image category a complete fin set up that I use. If we all contribute something to the comp, the prize bag will grow : )

If this sounds too complicated, then lets just all submit a 2 minute vid with best tricks and the ref can just pic a winner. However, having a year long comp allows everyone to have a chance as some of us get to the beach more often (Jimi and myself) and I can film every session where not everyone else can. So I think the method above is fair to all.

Lets put it up for a vote and the moderator/referee and agree or veto it!

Brett,

I know exactly what you mean! I noticed a huge change in balance when switching from 2 cells to 3. The extra weight made it wobble and bounce around. To fix this I just lowered my figures to lower the center of gravity, and using a fin with horizontal wings that point down at a 20 degree angle, it holds the surfer to the wave well., I have another that is angled even greater downwards for when the wind is up and it really keeps the board stable. Wind can be a pain in the ass!

You should take mine for a spin and see how it feels.

There is an amazing little break just south of the North Burleigh surf club. When its 1-2ft and clean it is awesome. It's where I got the footage which had the super clean offshore waves ( I only have one vid with off shore waves... we have had some really bad conditions over the past few months!)

RC Surfers,
This whole online competition idea is great and is something I have been meaning to mention to John Curz for quite some time.
Only yesterday a young guy that works in the music shop where I teach guitar said that we should have a competition.
I said that I was thinking about trying to get a bit of interest in an online comp.
I am sure many of you others have thought along these lines before also.
Barrels must have been on the same wavelength or something.
My idea was similar to Seb's.
I also thought that there could be a best photo division and a best video division.
I think there should be a maximum of 3 pics and 3 vids per entrant.
That allows for 6 entries by each competitor, 3 in each division. You could lift  highlights from your favoutite vids and enter them as your photos.
I personally think it should be an annual event and held only once a year.
That way everyone has plenty of time to get there best waves and a chance to surf in all seasons in there zone.
It also makes it easier for the sponsors to be able to grow the prizes each year.
Anyway, at this stage I think it is healthy that we all submit our thought and ideas and I am sure that the contest organisers/sponsors will consider all of the ideas that get submitted and a workable format will hopefully evolve pretty quickly.
I think everyone is stoked about giving this a go.
I am sure John also has a Global RC Surfers Boardriders Club webpage/site that is not being utilized at this stage.
I think that would be the kind of place to run it.
That way all photos and videos could be organised in one place and the Club members would be the ones who are alowed to enter and to participate in the judgement of the submissions.
Keep it simple and it should be a lot of fun.
Sea ya.

The interest is growing : )

A one off comp is fun, but a year long comp would be an on-going event which will eventually crown a champion...

To be the the "World RC Surfing Champion" requires more than just a one off video or picture submission. It requires a structured competition with numerous events, an unbias referee, throughout an entire year and at the end the winner on points takes the crown and the title.

The referee needs to be someone who is NOT a competitor and is unbiased in his or her scoring (all competitors need to accept the results and if they feel a result is bias, then **** will hit the fan and the comp will be over)

Barrels can not enter the comp if he is the ref. Curly can not be ref as he will benefit financially from the footage and still images. Also, curly may not want the winner to be footage of a home-made rc surfer as that is not what he sells. He sells the 26" and will want footage and pics of that sized board to sell his product (just thinking from every angle, so take no offence)

Who will be the ref??.... David Reese, the founder of the sport would be fitting, but then he can not take part...

We need to work this all out soon as the year is fresh. If Barrels wants just a one off comp, then no prob. But if that is the case, lets get the year long comp started ASAP and we can decide on a prize later. If not being "World Champ" is enough.

Everyone, get involved and lets resolve this in a week!

Seb
