RE: RC Surfer
G'dayRC Shredders,
My new digital radio arrived today, yeeha.
Also my .130 music wire, which is not exactly what I had hoped.
It is solid spring steel not cable, lol.
So I now have 22 feet of 1/8" unusable steel wire.
I could use it but then I would have a solid shaft again.
But I did find some .130 bass guitar strings at the music shop this arvo and they should work fine. (I think)
I was hoping the music wire would be like the bass strings.
Does seem a bit stronger than the octura cable, slightly stiffer but still flexi.
I will load one up and see how it goes.
Sea ya.

Fish
heres a pic i think its sebs board from memory shows hes shaft install.
what i did was slid the shaft in and bolted it up to the motor shaft and put a prop on and just play around till you find how far you can push the shaft in without hitin the hull with the prop. I put the biggest size prop on that i would use and then slid the shaft in till it was a few milimetres off the hull.
you can drill the coupler end out a lil bit to give you that extra room . then i just epoxy putty around the coupler end.
hope that helps.
ronky tonk
you will need a 5mm motor coupler for the motor also. If i was you i would upgrade the shaft and coupler also.
if you are going to use the stock shaft you will still need to find a coupler.

Hi guys,
Fun waves today at "St Georges".
Have not been there since last winter.
Only a foot or so but glassy and shreddable.
No probs today.
4 metre swell on Sunday.
Hoping to get some new vid.
Sea ya.

RE: RC Surfer
Hi Crew,
Just ordered a new prop to try out.
Octura X432 sharpened and balanced and shipped $56.28 AUD.
Geez, I hope it makes $50 worth of difference to my boards performance than the plastic Octura X431 I am currently using.
The extra mm will add a fair bit of speed but I hope she still runs cool.
At least I should not have to change broken props all the time.
But I better stop grinding 'em on the beach though.
Can't afford to go through these ones too often.
Oh well, see how it goes.
A change of props makes dramatic difference in board speed and performance, when I put the Seb shaft in my Kyosho I had a 31mm 4M prop and it ran slow, I put a 32mm in and it goes like a rocket.
Pitch makes a lotta difference too.
When I use the Octura Y531 the extra pitch adds a bit of speed too.
There is a lot to learn and suss out when it comes to props, that's for sure.
What props are you guys using?
Sea ya.

RE: RC Surfer
Cananzi,
After reading through Fish's link, perhaps it is your 34mm prop that is causing the sway.
It is your 3S with the 34mm prop that is swaying side to side right?
A 34mm prop is very big for an RC Surfer and you have a lot of power in that monster.
Have you tried a smaller prop, I suggest trying a 32mm prop and see is the swaying goes away.
Maui,
Still there guys?
Curlz,
You too?
Are you guys gettin' any unusual WAVES?
Hope you are all ok.
Hopefully I will get to test the new radio on Sunday.
Sea ya.

RE: RC Surfer
G'day Crew,
Well, I reckon ya need a degree to understand all the different parameters on this new radio.
The manual was written by a Martian which does not help much.
I am sure it is not that hard to work out but it far more complex than the old FM radio that I am used to.
At least Ice Burger Dan will be back in town in a couple of days.
He will get me sorted with it if I have not worked it out by then.

RE: RC Surfer
Fish,
I usually program the ESC with the FM radio, Can I still do that with the digital one?
Also when I plugged it in the motor ran when I pressed the trigger the wrong way and I just need to sort out how to get that turned around.
I had my kid and his mate there when I was doing it and they were hassling me to go to the skatepark.
So I took them for a 2 hour skate and then I stripped and cleaned my boys scooter for him.
Now I have just started charging up for the dawny tomorrow and I will go back to the radio now.
Hope I can test it in the morning but I will need to reprogram at the beach so I can use my NiMh packs as well, so I hope I can still do that from the Tx.
Also, do I have to charge the Rx on this one, I don't have a charger for it?
In the mmanual it has somethin' 'bout that.
Is there supposed to be a charger for that with the radio?
Do Youknow???

RE: RC Surfer
jimi as far as i know you can program esc same as before.
when you pull trigger is motor going backwards or did you mean when you push trigger out other way the motor goes as normal.
if it is 1st one have you tried swapping 2 esc to motor wires.
no charging reciever never heard of that. just the binding process which you must have worked out or it was already binded.
ill be online for a while lets sort it out

RE: RC Surfer
jimi thought a bit more, you might just need to reverse the throttle channel on the radio. is your esc set up for reverse.
radio will program esc, the way the tx talks to rx is different but rx talks to esc, servos the same as before.
found the manual online for flysky version ,if its the same one you got and it probably is but with hobbyking name its kinda like enrique wrote it eh.
good luck hope you get sorted for the morning.

RE: RC Surfer
Fish,
Ok, I seem to have got it goin' right now.
Been messin' with it for a while and I am starting to get used to it.
Yeah, the motor was working when I pushed the throttle forward.
But it is ok now, yes I just put channel 2 in reverse.
Takes a little gettin' used to.
Now I have to work out how I am gonna install the antenna.
I think I might just stick it into my standard antenna tube for a test run.
If everything is ok I might just cut the tube down to the shorter size.
Anyway, looks like it is gonna get a test in the morning if I can find some nice waves.
Swell is up a bit and it should be offshore so fingers crossed.
I am gonna try to get Bob on the job.
Sea ya.

im pretty sure you have set all your parameters between your esc and controller again. i had the same problem and i just started form scratch, rebinded everything.
guys
spent a few hours today workin on the 3s.. I wanted to try something tottally different .changed the tail shape to a square tail and put a slight jimirocker on it. also i shaped the lead on the bottom of the hull so it blended in alot better. hasnt been primed or painted yet but heres a few pics
