the leapord motor i have is a 3180kv 1700watt and can take up to 18v. draws 94amps. i was running 3s with 36mm prop at one stage with that motor and the thing was ridiculus probly to much power for a rc surfer.
atm im running in the3sa 33mm prop on a 2810kv(cheaper motor) seems to be the happy medium.

RE: RC Surfer
I ran my guy at Doheny again today, it was 1-2' and fun. I put in the new seal and it works great. But I have a problem with the motor over heating and shutting down (older brushed Chameleon 19T). I can run one battery but on the second battery it shuts offs. This is the 3rd time. The ESC seams cool but the motor is very hot, the water cooling seams to be working but....So I pulled the motor it smelled burnt. I pulled it apart, the com was a little burnt. The com cleaned up easy enough but the bearings front and rear are toast, not smooth at all. It may be friction from the bearings thats heating things up. I'm also trying to align the motor and drive shaft but its a pain. I'm waiting on a brushless system from China so I think I can limp along until that comes. I wish I had some pix or vid of it in the water but no one to come along and shoot at this point.

RE: RC Surfer
Brushed Systems Were a good start Years ago.
When you get your brushless set up, It should rid the heat problem
of that 19 turn motor. The Coils can only cool so much,
But the tunnels on brushless is like surround sound !
I'm working on The Kyosho Hull set up for you, and should have pics
sent to you by Tuesday.

RE: RC Surfer
Hey, rc surfers ! I'm back !
Holy crap !! The last time I posted on this site there were about 50 pages. Now there are over 90 ! Wow, it's gonna take me awhile to read all the new posts, and see what you guys have been up to.
I took my board out today for the first time in many months. I forgot how much fun these things are ! It worked great and there were also some pretty good waves. The wind was blowing onshore, but so what, it was still fun. Also, my board stayed totally dry inside !
See ya !

RE: RC Surfer
Hi all
Well went for another test run down the river on flat water on Sunday, put some Dow Corning Number 4 around the seal not a drop inside and fixed up the leaking tubing so that all good
now onto the not so positive my surf is to fast and has way to much Grunt i took it out nice and slow first testing it and lined it up on the straight in the river and gave it to it the dam thing took off like a rocket it hit some major speed and flipped lol you guys wait till you see the video tomorrow
anyway the 32 mm brass prop work way to well lol i will need to put some out riggers on my board to stop the hull rolling when i give it full stick
i will also have to remove one of the bearing from the stuffing box its putting to much load on the prop shaft it was getting kind of warm

RE: RC Surfer
Maui,
It is nice and dry inside now with the new seal from Curly.
Surfing sounds great. I typically longboard Church between San Onofre and Tressels. I'm a 51 year old geezer. But still love to surf.
Let me know when your around.

Invite Me, I wanna Play In Some Salt Water Too ...
Eh Justin, We're Not Getting Older, Just Have More Talk Story.
Years Ago, I Got To Surf Cottons point and Being A Goofy, I Could not wait.
As You Know That Legend Left Point Break Rarely Hits.
It was HUGE, Like 15 + foot faces. In The Line Up, I saw Something out back.
As Only A Few Of Us out, I Started Paddling, And Then I saw The First Set Wave Beast
And Yelled Paddle, Paddle, PADDLE ...
We All Got Caught In Side This Five Wave Set, That Broke 100 Yards From
The Line Up. I Still Recall That Hold Down. That Place Is Fun And Scary At The Same Time.
Aged 50 Years Young and CHARGIN ( Rc Surfers At Least )

dan
The boards running strong mate nice one. Is that 3s?? i wouldnt worry about your run time becuase in the surf you wont use full throttle all the time. i hardly get to use half throttle on my 3s board until the lipo gets near the end of the run.
strap ya dude up and get that baby out in the surf!!!

Curly,
Anytime you wanna come on down and surf is fine.
Cotton's can be the biggest left around. It's Corky Carol's favorite spot when big.
