with out lipo we would all be in the stone age . just like cananzi says nitros are a joke at our local track lipo cars are laping nitros, nimh bats have low run times and do not last ask any one that has both lipos and nimh bats. plus nitros have to get gas every 10 minutes lipo run time 15 minutes for the cars
mr fish i have used thrust bearingsit really smoths out the startup and saves the bearings in your motor . fish if you have to much power you can lower your timing on you speed controller that will lower power output and will run alot cooler and last longer. plus your run time is going to be 45 min. + dont give up on 4 cell, its all about run time my new surfer has a 45 min run time i am running 2400 kv 3 cell 5000 with a 120 amp speed controller the set up is just like cananzis but my surfer has more weight.
john maui PScurly , you must have alot of nimh bats you are allways trying to sell them to us . they are good for your flash lite but thats it

RE: RC Surfer
thanks john ill do that timing low. can you please teel me a little more about your setup what size prop, what brand motor is that and what c rate are the batts you use. and is that a nqd kyosho or custum stick.the reasons i keep thinking ill go back to a 3s setup is batt size and weight. will be putting 6000mahs in on 4s where 3s i could get maybe 8000mahs. i think that you are spot on with the 2400kv on 3s some 26000rpm where i gonna have about 34000rpm with 2300kv on 4s which i think is too high(im gonna try it and see), i should have got 1800kv which will give 26000rpm, thats just something else to order. also are you using flex shaft and if so any tips for flex virgin.
45 mins is awesome runtime if i get that i will be so stoked.
cheers

RE: RC Surfer
Hi guys.
Been reading through some of the recent pages. A lot of info here ! There seems to be some grief with using the flexi shaft thing. I use dog bone drives on all my rc boats, including my surfer, with
100% problem free operation. I know that I don't run my board as hard or as often as some of you ( Jimi , you seem to go 24 hrs a day !!! good goin' man! ) but I do use this set up in my 28 inch Chris craft using a 775 motor and 11.1-14.8 volts and I bet it would probably run circles around any surf board !! I know it's a strong set up. How well it would withstand the stress of the prop repeatedly leaving and entering the water ( geting air ) , that I don't know . My set up has been in my board since last year and I am not particularlly easy on my surfer ! It's worked flawlessly.
Motor to shaft alignment is not as critical with this set up . The dog bone compensates for any error. Also, you need to move the motor ahead in the board to allow room for the new parts. This meant I needed less weight in the front , for my board anyways.
I've got a picture of the parts that I will post . The motor in the pic is not the one I use in my board, and I use a stainless shaft, not brass
Any way, I just thought I would offer a different system, in case no one was familiar with dog bone drives. If anyone else uses this set up, or knows why it shouldn't be used, let me know.
Surfs up !

no problems with theGraupner semiflexi shafts and they are very affordable withthe whole setup up coming in under $30.
they are so smooth,Its the only reason i havent changed to anything else . I cant find anything that matches them for value.
$11 for the shaft
$13 for a coupler
$5for a screw on prop.
what sort of price is the dogbone set up? i had a simular one that i pulled from a boat but it had a skinner dogbone piece and i snapped it.

RE: RC Surfer
Cananzi
here in Canada, Great Hobbies on line has a 1/8 set ( 2 couplers, set screws, dog bone ) for $ 7.99 canadian. They are made by Dumas ( dumb- ass ? ) They also have a 3/16 set. I bought my stainless shaft from a local hobby
store, but forgot the price. $12-$15 maybee ? Maybe more. can't remember. Anyways, the brass collars are thick enough to redrill for different size motor shafts. I have even thought
about shortening a dog bone from my Associated RC 10 car ( they are made of steel ) if the plastic ones from Dumas were weak, but so far, no need to .
Oh yeah, for power in my board, I'm using a 3600 kv brushless motor on 7.2 volt NiMhs or 11.1 Lipos. As youcan see, i'm making good power, and the dog bone hasn't failed. What battery I use depends on what I have charged.7.2 volts seems to be fast enough to make it fun.
Like surfcurls mentioned, it's not a speed boat. I already have one of those. Also,if your board is the only rc boat-like thing you own, I can understand you wanting it to be as fast as possibleand using 3s Lipos.
They make killer power !

RE: RC Surfer
Forgot to mention my prop.
I use to use traxass screw on props ( from their Blast boat, I think, ) They were quick, but brittle and got chewed up by the somewhat rocky beach that I use.
Now I use a two bladed brass prop that I silver soldered a brass threaded insert into to make it screw on. It rules ! It's strong and has great speed as well !

The steel dogbone would do the trick for sure. My dogbone set up snapped when i aired off the wave and throttled it in the air and soon as it landed in the water it snapped under the pressure.
if you want screw on brass ,carbon or plastic props try http://www.cornwallmodelboats.co.uk/...ropellers.html
Thats where i get my Graupner semi flex shafts and props for my surfers.

RE: RC Surfer
Hey guys
I broke my stock NQD bi-fin last week. Here is the replacement I made out of brass. It may be a little big, I don't know. Inever got my stock one back from the ocean to compareit to.
Tried it out yesterday. I think it works as good, or better, than the stock piece. The brass is stronger than plastic butthin enough todistort if it hits any rocks to hard
I see some other people use a single fin as well. What is the point of the bi-fin? If this info is already on this forum, sorry, I haven't read it all yet!

those compartments are perfectly fitted.
fish
you might be ok on the 4s and the 2300kv. would look like a bullet at full throttlebut power comes in handy getting out in big surf tho thats for sure. cant wait to see how she goes man.

This is a shot of my fin. Its 1 1/2 inch long (its not the length its how you use it). I like the look of yours there is no base to it. I think the base and the gap under it is all drag. Yours looks like it has almost no drag. That should give more run time.

Mine is 2 inchs long. Uhhhh........my FIN, I mean !! If the one I made is longer than stock, maybe that's why it works so good.
