$1200 for a Maui board is still a steal.

It is one thing to buy a plastic hull and seal and fit it.out.

It is another thing altogether, to cut up some foam shape it into a functioning surfboard.
Fibreglass it.
Fitt it out with the right stuff.
Do all the tests.

and create something so freakin' good that it has taken RC surfing to the next dimension of performance.

You guys rock!

Couplers

Well, I just got some great waves @ "Stockfence", Bob was not around, bummer.
When I got there I remembered that I had not greased the propshaft,, so I ripped it out, lubed up and whacked it back in.

Now this is where I went wrong, I SKIPPED the part where I put locktight on the grub screw.
A little voice in my head said, "It might come loose and cook".

Anyway being a bit lazy at 6am with consistent glassy 2 to 3 foot lefts pumpin', I rushed down to my favourite little spot on the grass.
Shoved a LiPo in a screwed down hard.

Proceeded to shred for 3 packs as the morning joggers and walkers passed me by.

4th pack, got out back, oh no, the coupler has come loose.
Just about got blisters on my thumb and index finger when I opened up and grabbed the coupler.

Now, I just know it is not gonna line up properly ever again.
I can't wait to get a flexi coupler in, at least it is on its way, thanks to the info provided by Seb.

What a piss off, you think I would have learnt by now.

The moral of the story is;

"If you use Direct Couplers" make sure you put a bit of locktight on the grub screws and make sure it is done up properly and tight.

Otherwise you will cook them like I do.

I still have a lot to learn alright, but I did get some great waves today.

Jimi,

When the shaft and coupler arrive, I am 100% sure you are going to have a at least two questions. So just call me and I will explain what to do.

Also, do you do your own soldering? If not, it is time to start practicing.

Sebski,
2 questions?
I have hundreds.

What do you do? Are you a Lawyer or something?
Ha, Ha, Ha.

No seriously, I am the worlds WORST solderer.
If I soldered my own stuff I would melt everything, even the hull if it was within 50m of the soldering iron.

But I know I should learn because things are bound to play up, for sure.
I get my son in law to do it for me, he is an electrician and he doesn't mind helping me out a bit.

Curls,

Attached is a Jpg of the invoice, price includes shipping.

Unit price is 20 each X minimum order quantity of 6 = 120
Shippingto Australia via fedex (same company who ships them to you, check your website pics) is $180

Total cost is 300 or $50 each.

Maybe you should contact the above company and get a quote and startchargingpracticalprices.

Goodluck.

Nice work Seb Skowowski! You posts are really helpful and you tell it straight up man.
It's good to see guys like you helping out others without just plugging products they profit from. I checked out John 'hardcore surfer' P's SurfCurls website and had to laugh at some of the BS he has on there.

hey guys I picked up 2x ''turnigy accucell 6'' chargers for 19 bucks each!!! postage was 15bucks.

Im thinking about just trying the turnigy 4000mah 7.4v lipos to start off.

I have a question about these lipos tho. I know a few of you guys are using them but are you using the turnigy bullets that are already on the lipo or are you guys fitting a tee on?

I use both Deans and bullet plugs. I would suggest Deans as they are small andreliable, but not as easy to solder as Bullet plugs.

I had Deans put on mine too.
I should have had the leads shortened a bit though as they are quite thick and there is not a lot of room to stuff 'em in.

That coupler I cooked today looks suss, it just took me about 15 minutes to get it off the motor shaft.

Should be good surf again early but I have a bit of prep to do.
Looks like a long night.

$7.18 on ebay for 10m of 10mm x 3mm adhesive neoprene strip, including delivery.

RC Surfing is TOTALLY SICK!!!

Crewski,
Well, by the time I got the coupler off I think the motor shaft isstuffed too.
It has all tiny ridges in it from the coupler jam.
I put a brand new coupler and shaft (Stole it from my Kyosho Lisa) in and it still bounced so I swapped motors.
Not sure if I can get the other motor goin' again until I have the flex thingy. (Not without bounce anyway)
All good now. RTR again.
That is 2 Kyosho couplers and shaftscooked in a week or so and about 5 since I began.
What a nightmare.
Can't wait to go flexi and put these bloody things in the past where they belong.
I think with the extra power of LiPo these surfers really needs the flexi setup more than ever before.

Seb, now that you have 6 new hulls you can seal one for me too bro.....
Then I can send ya all those Lisa Dolls.

Jimi,

Thosesolidcouplings are a pain in the ass in my eyes, seriously! They need to be aligned after every shaft greasing, they stick to the motor shaft, and eventually they don't align. Complete flexishaft are a bit more tricky that what i told you to buy, but they are just as good and a hell of a lot easier to install.

The flexi coupling will fit on your motor shaft no problem, just give it a light sanding to remove any corrosion. Just one grub holds the coupling to the motor shaft and the other end does not use a grub, its screws tight on the flexi end of the shaft.

When the flexishaft arrives, you will notice it has a hole in the shaft tube, this is so a auto greaser can be fitted, but given the limited space available, i just melt some solder over the hole and it is sealed. I have used duct tape, silicone tubing and very strong epoxy, but it always comes lose and greaseescapes. So get your son in law to just fill the hole with solder. Just make sure the shaft in inside the tube when you do it and it is greased and the solder will just fill the hole and not flow into the shaft tube. I'll explain further when you get it.

About the boards, i never bought them. This invoice is from last year as I was curious on the wholesale and shipping price, but i found a shop on eBayAustraliacalled OZPlaza that was selling them for 40 + 20 for shipping, so i bought 3 back then. I have even bought them from iOffer.com and on ebay from china. Thanks for the offer about the Lisas, but I have 4 now and they all have been strengthened with 4oz fiberglass cloth on the joints and I have not broken a figure in over 6 months and I do give them a serious beating and break an o'ring or twoevery session. Thats why I buy packs of 50 o'rings and I churn through them.

About sealing one for you, you know my answer on that. I did however film myself separating a hull a couple of days ago. I will uploadfootage if you want. Just once it is opened, you can strengthen the motor mount from underneath, and epoxy in some weights to get it as low as possible for balancing. Also you can drill a small 3mm hole at the front of the board underneathand cover it with white duct tapto drain any water that does get in from when you unscrew the bolts or when yourepoxyin the rudder areastartsto deteriorate.

When you do decide to do it, we will need to speak on the phone.

Ciao for now.

Seb

Curly,

Here are some links to where you can get them wholesale. Took me about 15 seconds to find them.

http://au.alibaba.com/products/r%252Fc-toy-surfer.html

http://purchasetoy.en.made-in-china....RZC50944-.html

Could you please tell us where you have been buying BULK all your NQD surfers from? I am seriously dumbfounded that you would not be buying in bulk from wholesalers in China? Come to think about it, where else could you buy in bulk these toys apart from china?

And yes, Website can bring laughs, unfortunately yours doesn't.

Sebski,
How long have you being modifying NQD's?
&
How many have you done so far?
Just curious.

I am on number 3 and that is in only about 5 or 6 months.
To me NQD hulls are cheap enough to be basically "Expendable" aspects of the surfer, that is cool if you keep trying different sealing techniqes and other modifications and evolving your surfer.
You have obviously been doing this for a couple of years to have sussed out the NQD and her problems so well.

Hopefully, when the new Wombarra surfer comes out those who don't mind paying the price they ask will be able to just get one hull, mod it the way they like and surf happily ever after.

Now that would be nice.

JIMI
