Push the flexi end in the coupler and leave about 3-4mm of the flexi end sticking out between the end of the coupler and the solid shaft.

Get a drill and an 8mm drill piece and open up the hole where the shaft enters the inside the board as the coupling is longer.

Put tube over shaft and put it in the board.

Fit your motor and screw it in place. Then attach the coupler to the motor shaft and spin it. If the coupling rubs against anything, smooth it out with the drill. Just wiggle it around and it will flatten out the area touching the coupler.

When it spins without touching anything, epoxy the shaft tubein place. Make sure some of the non threaded part of the shaft sticks out the other end where the prop is screwed on. About .5-1mm should be fine. Make sure it's lubed up and the epoxy has set then let it rip.

It is more complicated explaining it than it is actually installing it. If you have any problems, call me (0402257118) as I really don't feel like typing 4000 word when I can explain it over the phone in 2 minutes. Remember the timedifferenceif you do call !!!!!!

I don't think we will be needing too many more words.
The only thing is I think the coupler is the wrong size for my motor shaft.
While it does kinda fit.
It is not central when I do up the grub screws and it oscilates around because it is not central on the motor shaft.
I think your motor shaft must be a bit bigger than the one on my motors.
Other than that I think I understand.
I am going back to look at the couple specifications now.
I think my motor has a 4mm shaft.
So if I have got the wrong size for my motor I will have to reorder another.
I will check it out bro.

If the coupling is the wrong size for the motor just contact the seller as ask of you can swap it if you pay for postage, or just keep it as one day you will have a motor with a 5mm shaft.

If you bought your motor from John then he maybe selling gear that has imperial sizes not metric, check it out and buy accordingly. If it has a 1/8 motor shaft buy a 1/8 coupler, don't buy a 4mm as you want a perfect fit!

Shame about all the set backs, you'll get it up and running soon and it will be worth it.

Ok, is 3.2mm the same or close enough to 1/8"?
If so, will I need a collet with 1/8" fit on each end?
Will this work.
I don't wanna order anything else untill someone sets me straight on exactly what I do need.

I told you I am new to this RC stuff.
All the different sizes and ratings on everything freaks me out.

No stressing buddy, it's complicated at first but it gets easier.

We deal in imperial and metric measurement units. Metric will always use millimeters and half millimeters ie 3mm, 2.5 mm 1mm etc, where imperial used fractions of an inch. ie 1/8 5/32 3/16 etc...

I will always recommend that if you need a 4mm coupler, get a 4mm coupler, if it is 1/8" use a 1/8". However, in some situations you can get away with it if the difference is very minimal.

Your shaft flexi end is 3.2mm, that is actually an imperial measurement rounded up to a metric measurement. It's exact size is 3.175 or 1/8", however it can fit a 3.2mm flexi coupler as the size is so close at the coupler can tighten in on it.

If you have something that is 5/32 (3.969mm), you can actually use it in a 4mm coupler as again the size is so close.

Your motor shaft is 1/8" so you can use a 3.2mm flexi coupler to a 3.2mm flexi shaft end. I have looked for one on eBay for you and can only find one that looks like it uses grub to hold the flexi shaft end which i recommend you use one that screws tight around the entire flexi end.http://cgi.ebay.com.au/COUPLING-FLEX...#ht_1453wt_905

I think it might be time to buy yourself a motor with a 5mm shaft and then you can attach it correctly to the shaft and coupling you have already. There are so many cheap brushless motors out there so grab one around 3000kv (and a slip on water jacket) and have a new set up. New motors always sound and run great

I should have asked what set up you already had before giving advice. Either way eventually you will have many spares of everything and it will all be used one day.

Good luck and don't give up on the flexi shaft!!

I hear what you are saying about the screw on end for the flexi insert.

I am going to get one of these couplers for now and see if I can get it to fit.

My concern is that the grubs that screw against the flexi end will damage the flexiend as it is more or less like a tightly sprung spring.

Also the coupling looks longer than the one you have and may extend well into the hull.

I have 3 motors and 2 others for parts, it's not a wasted investment as I will use them if one gives me problems. I have spare escs, radios, multiple chargers, deans plugs, water jackets, water tubing, you name it I have spares.

I save a bucket buying online and really don't mind if it takes 2-3 weeks for things to arrive as I have spares and will always have spares to keep me running without having to wait for **** to arrive. I did that when i first started and hated it so i stocked up on everything.

I also have a shop full of gear.

2 Kyosho hulls.
3 NQD hulls, actually 2 now 'cause I sent that one I have been using to the RC Surfer Museum. (The BIN)
12 Dudes.
I have 5 motors.
Half a dozen ESC's
Half a dozen Kyosho couplers and shafts.
60 or more props.
Over a dozen NQD rudders.
Half a dozen servos.
Half a dozen radios
Several Motor mounts & a heap of bolts & washers.
A ton of Neoprene washers.
A dozen Antenna tubes
Spare deck seals and a couple of dozen SS deck bolts.

And a ton of other bits and pieces balloons, wire, Deans plugs, zip ties sponges, bullet connectors, lead sinkers etc.

The point is as you can now see, I am set up the way I run and I really don't want or need any more motors or anything else for that matter.
I just wanted to upgrade my coupler setup, but it seems that it might not be that simple.

So that is just a bit of bad luck.

I have ordered one that should fit my gear and might work but if it does not well that is just too tough tities.
My boards still shred and I just have to take care with the couplers.

It would be a lot easier if we could  find a coupler like yours to fit my motors.

I also have 3 spare decks with wingnut setups on and Dudes ready to go so if I break an o-ring I can just swap decks and worry about changing the o-ring when I get home.

I really love getting the board all primed up and packs charged and packing  a kit with a few bits and pieces and I seriously dig getting up really early for the dawn patrol.

Awesome waves around here all the time bro.
I am totally amped up 24/7 on this.

Yeah the beach at 6am is the best place to be and the best way to start the day.

G'day Crew Members,

I have done a bit more work on NQD hull number 4.

The railsare sealed the Curlz way with Epoxy putty and I have also added a coat of epoxy resin painted over the seals.
I have also painted the rails to add extra sealing.
I am certain they will just crack and leak after a few sessions.

Butshe is ready to test in the ocean.
I just have to mount the Dude on the deck..

The ESC has silicon in the end where the wires come out and is taped up heavily with electrical tape.
Since I have done this I have not had any more problems with the ESC.

Alas, I am still using a standard Kyosho coupler.
The board looks cool anyway.

Surf is not promising for the morning as the swell is only 1 1/2' and the wind is predicted to be SE, so I am uncertain if I will test in the morning.

Yeah, the black rails look good, I noticed in a few surf mags that boards with black rails look very photogenic.
Bob says his son Jake had one and the photos always looked great.

You got me thinkin', I'm gonna get a new SD card for my Gathcam now, I wrecked the other one, I took it out while the cam was still on.
Only thing is, I can't zoom in on mine.

Still, there are quite a few places around here that break close to the shore so it should come in handy from time to time.

You will be able to lift some great stills from your footage too.

Try Brendon @ Wombarra.
He sold me a heap for $50.00AUD each.
They are the original first generation Kyosho ones.
You have to trim the mould seams and glue the arms and head on.
If you can get one or two, stick carbon fibre all over.
Since I have done that the Dude can handle anything.
If you don't do CF then you will blow his legs off, ha ha ha.
Have a look at them pictures from "Bowes", he was getting slammed onto the reef on some decent sized set waves and not a crack.

If they can't help, John has offered $100 Dudes to member of this site, probably charge $40.00 for post.
At least his are already made and painted.
So the price is comparable.
Believe me, It takes hurs and hours of hard work trimming and constructing and painting one from a kit.
If you get one from Dr. Curlzy I still recommend CF and repainting.
I have blown 2 of his apart, rebuilt them and blown them apart again.
Now I am rebuilding them again with CF, they won't break after that.
