RE: RC Surfer
justin i just use the hobbyking lipos turnigy, zippy etc. they are cheap and work good. as for amps , i have learned that discharge rate is very important i would try not to go below 100amp discharge rate but higher is better. 4000mah 30c =120amp discharge , 3000mah 40c = 120amp discharge.

RE: RC Surfer
Tried to go surfin' today but no luck. Got to the beach, checked everything on land, and noticed the throttle response was slow. Hmmmm. Quick test in the water showed it was slow. Pulled it apart and smelled that ominous electrical burning smell ! Went home and checked out the bits. Verdict : my motor is cooked ! Oh well, it was a cheap hobbyking brushless motor that I bought about a year and a half ago. I'm surprised it lasted this long. I've used it in a rc car ( before the surfboard ) and abused the hell out of it. Dam! it was supposed to be nice weather this week!

... some impressions from "La Mora" bay close to Tarragona, Spain.
Rider: my son Julius (10)
By the way:
That board is driven by a mega-cheap water-cooled China-brushless motor (less than 20 Euros).
'Works just fine!

Ebony and ivory - surfing in perfect harmony…
Riders: my son Julius and me
I tested the "negative rocker" on my Black Lisa's board.
It sure makes her go faster and with less bouncing on FLAT water, but when it comes to narrow turns on the wave's face she now suddenly shows the tendency to catch (= to point her nose down and to dive into the water) which she never did before.
My son's board (= Blonde Lisa without negative rocker) could carve turns into the wave's face much more radical without any catching or diving problems.
Result: I will remove the negative rocker from my Black Lisa's board again.
Take care!

RE: RC Surfer
nice pics rainer. ive noticed that with the neg rocker too. i guess its just finding the right balance. the trim tab extended tail im testing does the same thing but the next step is to test it with less and less rocker hoprfully finding something that eliminates bounce and lets the nose stay up. also i found with the trim tab that turning was greatly improved , it would hold an edge in much faster sharper turns.
my board is also powered by mega cheap chinese motor under $25au and works great.
ps how old is your son. i would love to have 2 boards so my son could surf with me too.
have a good one

RE: RC Surfer
Rainer, Great photos, looks like you guys had fun.
I ran my, new to me hull with the brushless set up. When using 4500 NI-MH batts its barely fast enough but when I put in LiPos of the same amp it JAMS!
I also tired the bi-fin.... it does not seam to be that different from the regular single fin.?
I ordered another brushless set-up to replace the brushed one in my other board. That one keep burning out. I got a Turnigy Marine 120A Brushless Boat ESC and 2848SL 3900kv Brushless Inrunner (WaterCooled). I might run that one 3 cell.

My son Julius 'got his RC surfer (= blonde Lisa with red wet suit)for his 10th birthday, last year in July.
In parallel I 'got myself my RC surfer (= black Lisa withgreen wet suit).
'Till then we've beentrying to improveour Lisasand us (= our riding/surfing skills).
Meanwhile, I must admit Julius is better than me ;-)
Take care!

RE: RC Surfer
Hi Guys,
Had another (real) surf the other day, went much better than the first day back and not so sore this time.
Wow, where did all this obsession with speed come from!!!
Sure isa lot of river boat testing goin' on lately.
Do you guys really think we need this much speed for surfing waves?
Maybe thiscould be the start of RC Surfer river racing, LOL.
Fish,
I have never seen an NQD go that fast before, and I thought Dan's board was fast.
I would imagine you could jump that missile 30 feet into the air off a 3 foot peak.
Rainer,
Looks like a very nice beach.
Glad you had a lot of fun with your son.
Sick surfing bro.
Is that it for you for another year?
Alien,
Where are the actual surfing pics from your session with Lolo???

RE: RC Surfer
Well the river test went ok
still have to much power in the board it was trying to barrel roll with the dude attached.
i have to give him some ski poles to hold onto lol
going to put a smaller prop on
Also have a problem of a coupling that joins the flex shaft to the motor it keeps slipping if any one has a better idea on fixing this let me know

RE: RC Surfer
jimi
i rememberi gotshot downfor knocking the ribs out the lid for more lipo height space and putting a thin layer of glass to stiffin it.......seb would be pulling his hair out at some of the mods that are being done atm....... :-)
I think all these new modsthat everyone is tryingis healthy for the hobby to progress tho. Im trying to figure out how to get another 4mm in lipo space height so i can go 4s and run a slow kv motor......hopeing to equal a longer runtime. I just need 4mm more in height some how
hey i managed to pick up a venom rc surfer...are they much different to NQD??
All you WA lads i might be moving to perth in the next 6months!!!! intresting times!!

To get the extra 7mm clearance you need, could you make some kind of spacer to go between the hull and the hatch ? For testing purposes, it wouldn't have to be pretty. You might be able to use wood even. Yeah, the hatch would stick up a little, but so what, for testing it would probably be fine. You would have touse longer bolts ,though, but they wouldn'thave to be stainless .This would let you test the 4s. If it sucks, no harm done, just remove the spacer. If you like it, then you could justify other mods to make the battery fit. Just a thought.
