Seaking ESC (and the Turnigy copy) works with air radio, i have 7 boards set like that, you first need to calibrate the throttle range.

calibrating the throttle range works in 90% of the cases, sometimes it refuse to do.
ESC needs affection like girls, don't give up just try again later, they all works.

I have no experiance with other surface ESC.

just though I would share, i love the plane transmitter for their long throttle range and 3d control potential

Had a great midweek session down at the berg with my good mate Dave Pratt who is still enjoying rcsurfing my original ShredÁ' board. I'ts good fun ripping up the surf with a buddy - must do it sometime again - sooon !

Will hit the surf this afternoon on the high tide again - BUT - only after some 'maintenance/repairs !

After running this Turnigy 120A ESC for well over 18 months now - surfing very regularly - I recently started experiencing intermittent power issues - On examination of the unit, I found that the actual wire in the -/+ power leads have actually corroded/broken down to the point of collapsing - possible due to heat - not even able to solder.
Unfortunately the leads location is in between two pc panels - so near impossible to replace the leads.



New ESC sealed with RU Adhesive and insulation tape - this method has worked extremly well for me



I use the RU Adhesive to wrap/seal the RX then cover with a balloon - 100% seal



I like to double up on the heat shrink sleeve for added insulation and strength - also cover the ESC / MOTOR
plug joint to prevent any moisture getting inside the plug.

Had an awesome session this afternoon down at 'the berg' - beach was packed due to the SERIOUSLY HOT day we have been having ( 34 degrees Celsius)

Pulled an amazing 'copter type rotation'of the lip - board stayed flat and rotated through 360 degrees to land and surf it out !!!!!.... Damn ! wish Lisa - Marie was their to frame it !......next time....

Batteries on charge - ready for more weekend rc surf action !....... ......tripping

What is interesting and significant to me in this particular video is seeing how much better the 'tow in short boards 'handle on the wave face compared to the 'longer paddle in boards' Whilst the tow in guys are ripping so fluidly- the paddle in guys are having to hang on the rail to get the board to turn - apart from the paddling speed - seems to me the shorter boards handle way better..Seems ......"more surface area - more drag, slowing it down - and- more effort required to effect the direction......

YPC - yes tow boards easy to turn compared to paddle in boards at Jaws.
When you hold a Jaws paddle in board (10 to 12 ft in length) you can see how difficult it would be to turn one!
They are what I call super Rhino Chaser Guns!

Finally got my decals back from the printer - tissue paper/screen print.....saturated on with a clear sanding coat...then a light sand and a final gloss coat...

Hello YPC. Yea the heat can get to these hobby grade esc. 18 months of hard surfing is really good. I keep a backup esc in my box now after a few mishaps.

New build #8 started in Maui over the weekend.
Rainy weekend with no waves, so I dug out an old styrofoam block and started making an eps snow field in my workspace.
11oz carbon on both top & bottom deck to handle anything that I can crash into.........

Wow Hugh - STEALTH looking - what are the boards DIMS - how do you wrap the rail with the carbon to keep it neat on the opposite side ?

Almost done with placing all the decals on this board - having to place them last due to the layup being done with the colour infused in the resin.

Pod made from eps foam covered with 2 layers 5.7oz 2x2twill carbon
slow process as I need to wait 12-24 hrs between epoxy layups so the resin is cured enough to sand

Well guys its been almost 2 weeks since I ordered this gear from hobby king and they haven’t sent my order. This being said I have just canceled it, I am going to order again but what should I be getting for gear- the best bang for my buck??

Side note,
WOW what a hassle to cancel my order, I had to end up threating to call my CC company to get a refund after my 6 attempt to contact them and then they finally canceled it..

In preparation for an eventual dunking i ordered a replacement radio and (in my opinion) nice bang for buck 120A turnigy boat esc on the 12th of Jan.
Ordering stuff in stock usualy arrives within 2wks to Aus.. thought i was gunna be ok but NO they got me again got my order last tuesday 4th Feb.. LOL

I have a seaking 90 and turnigy 60 going well.. also the program card that works on both.. Jefa using turnigy YPC using 120 atm too.
HK says its waterproof... imo if you get one disregard that statement and waterproof it.

At the mini waves Sandonsurfsesh we were sitting around lots and never got past 3/4 throttle but got over 30mins on a battery that i just checked will fit a bordsharks hull like fingers in a glove
As you will be not resting but going all the time the 25C rating may be too low? (remember i'm no expert at this) but the yellow skinned 25C 5800mah 3s Zippy Compact might be worth checking out. (i changed the plugs to suit my deans setup but you may not have to do this)
Bigger the mah longer the run time.

K-H2o has the boardshark setup wired whatever he reccomends i'd be listening to....
btw you may not be hitting reefs or sea monster kelp behind the wake boat and a plastic prop may do... but the hard to get HK 5B11.30 brass prop will bolt strait on to a boardsharks shaft... could last you forever.. in my rcsurfing trip been best bang for buck ever.

Just my opinion on some of your stuff.. all the best with the quest!

Mr. Ronk- Maybe the lost in shipping is a blessing in disguise. It is incouraging to know that the HK order I made on Dec. 30 still has a chance of arriving sometime soon. I knew I was doing something I might regret ordering then!!
So if you want to make that thing go good get one of these

It will need to have some kind of metal body you can glue cooling tubes on ( see my post photo ) or be ready to go to a surface radio. With a 2 channel radio you can run a Y harnes and do 2 servos in one channel, if you don't have any servo mixing. Dude servo will need to be MG and around 150 or more oz.in. torque.
OSE has great props and the owner ( Steven ) is really helpful. I know you blew the kids collage fund on the new boat but you gotta be able to find some spare change under the sofa to get the Shark flying !!! 3 cell and you can jump from wake to wake, but watch out you will need to reinforce his legs or you will blow him off and brake his ankles. Regarding surface 2 channel with y harness for leaning guy... 150oz.in torque is high but guess that's what he needs.

Was wondering if this extra load would make steering movements a bit delayed or hessitant, and if so would it be best to keep leaning guy on his own channel, even if just the go/no-go hard to operate 3rd channel button available on some surface radios ..?

Had a great rc surf session this morning on the high tide at the berg - then - got some work done this afternoon, manufacturing and fitting the motor mount / drive shaft assembly !
Solid 4mm stainless steel shaft within a 5mm stuffing tube with a serviceable brass bush fitted into a stainless steel drive shaft housing.
The deep mounted motor in the pod belly reduces the drive thrust angle considerably. ( water jacket still to be fitted)




Light off - shore - 3 - 5 ft face predicted for the morning high tide session to-morrow ............

Cave- I am using a Hitec HS 5685 MH servo on the Dude and it is holding up. I have broke gears in lesser servos and burned up one. I am using it on 7.4 v which is 175 oz.in., but on 6v it is rated 155 oz.in.

Trying to keep Mr. Sharky going, I take 2 oz cloth and epoxy glue and put small patches on his anckles. otherwise he breaks in the pivot pin area. He still only lasts so long before he comes appart at the waist and needs chyropractic help.

If you want to run a servo Y but are worried about enough juice to power 2 servos off one wire. you can Y the signal wire only and plug the power +, - wires into seprate channels. The servo doesn't care where it gets its power.

Using high of voltage servos is benificial for the BEC and gives more power to the servo. The BEC has to decrease the voltage of the battery to accomidate the servo/ reciever, so the more the decrease the more work on the BEC.

Surfed !.... Friday - Saturday - Sunday........ in some very pleasant 2 - 4 ft face summer surf. A rather gentle swell this time of the year in the bay (False Bay) but always fun - beautifully set, with the high mountain ranges flanking it on either side ...stunning, clear views for miles, this time of year ....

Lisa-Marie got down to the beach with us this morning and once again captured a few great waves..........Cemetery is a great surf spot for rc Surfing - swell is the closest in' along the coast line and there is hardly ever anyone else in the water, due to the close proximately to seal inhabited, Seal Island, which effectively is the local Great White Sharks 'McDonald's swim through !!! - No Shark spotters in sight ! ...........hence the name of the beach "Cemetery"......
