Howzit Hugh .....thanks .... ...even though I am limited to only a few local spots around Cape Town which are rc Surfing friendly ( not to many bathers and surfers) I am still very fortunate to get 'plenty'of surf in ....and especially fortunate ..... when Lisa-Marie is around to capture it on video - She is really able to keep it in the frame so well - with the most basic of cameras !

I learn so much from watching a session afterwards - and - get to enjoy it over and over'.......

about sharks !
two links of pictures taken yesterday of a Great white and Hammer head cruising the back-line in the bay !

PAGE 300 - awesome ! .. 'its been an awesome journey ...definitely now in a different season - less about how to fix it - and- more about 'how to build custom boards' - and- hopefully more action packed 'rc Surfing' footage from the 4 corners of the world ! .....cheers to the next 100 pages....

My first post back on the 17 / 01 / 2012 - two years later already ! ......still loving it

RE: RC Surfer

Hi Guys

I have been meaning to join this great bunch for some time now - but needed to get 'My Board build underway'
Hopefully soon - we will be posting some great RC Surfer rides from SUNNY SOUTH AFRICA !
I have a few post orders if this prototype works - we will mold the board for =reproduction if all goes as planned.

I will drop a few more pics once the hardware is fitted !

Laid up the hatch cover to-day - white Gel coat - a few layers of cloth - giving it a texture deck finish - nice contrast...

The hump is to accommodate the 4s battery rather than add volume to the boards thickness.

Stopped off for a quick session on the way to gym - weather was to great to go straight indoors for a work out ......

Hatch cover 5 mm thick ( 1/4") - recessed to accommodate thicker battery - keeping buoyancy value down....

Had a few " double whiskies " this evening saluting JIMI - reflecting back on JIMI's colourful, abundant contribution to this awesome forum and sport, through the many pages - There is no doubt that JIMI was extremely passionate - a true blue - rc surfer enthusiast. He did the production Kyosho rc surfer boards proud - put his heart and soul into every one of his rebuilds and presented magnificent boards - capable of surfing so well - sharing countless photo's that were so action packed and true to scale - enthusing and encouraging so many of us - fences will never be the same .......always shared the STOKE !

To-Night ! - I feel really sad !..... to have lost such a great friend and enthusiast in this wonderful sport !.......rcSurfing will surely be at a loss without you JIMI.....R.I.P

A man of my own heart !........God Bless

Default Hard Core !

Another Bro is formed !

What makes it possible for myself to enjoy most every session and push the limits to whatever the surf offers, is the confidence I have in Bro's ( the surfer dude) ability to withstand most every wave it faces - whether it's pulling a huge air !...taking a big wipe out - crashing on the shore, in a dumping shore break - or - punching through a fat lip at big speed, pulling a Rodeo flip - Bro has proven over and over that it is up to the task...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5GEwCkDUPV8
What sets Bro apart from the traditional rc surfer dude construction ( foam core) is the 3D silhouette Moulded Flexible Core -MFC- made up of several layers of woven cloth reinforced with uni directional carbon fibre layers, in specific areas - post cured with epoxy resin. FLEXIBILITY is all important when 'impact' is part of the equation.
I have even noticed , when closely watching the surf videos - that when landing from a jump or move - Bro can be seen flexing - i.e. absorbing the landing inertia that could otherwise have pulled it over...

Bro's head is moulded using polyester gel for the face detail
and polyurethane\2 part - high density closed cell foam for the
bulk of the head. Making it very light and durable and buoyant.
The production is consistent and the head is very easily replaced
if ever damaged beyond repair.

Core cleaned up and trimmed.......

Carbon mounting pads fitted.........

Neoprene laminate both sides....

used a thicker Neoprene - give Bro 'more body

Looks even better on the board..

off to wardrobe and make up.......

Its all important for the surfer dude to be set with its buoyancy "off centre"- if not - you could end up with the boards 'not righting' - as the rotation cant be initiated if the buoyancy is dead centre.

I set my surfers buoyancy to the right rail ( in the design of bro's stance) so that the board rotates when self righting in the same direction as the props rotational torque. In very windy conditions, it always helps to use the prop rotational torque to help recovery....

Hey- Sad to hear of Kyle (Jimi ) Passing !!! Funny he crossed my mind on that day, and I said a quick prayer for him. I didn't really know how he was doing. Hadn't had a report in a while. His exuberance and presence will be missed!!
He is the second RC Surfer I know to have died from cancer. My really good buddy who got me going on RC Surfing was the other, about 7 years ago. We all are going to face that crossroad someday, best to be ready at all times !! Best wishes to his family !!!

Aloha, KH

make up and wardrobe done ......head will still receive a light coat of clear epoxy.
The rash vest is a tight fitting Lycra - adds dimension to Bro's figure and helps
stand out in the surf (various colour options)

Can't get more authentic than Neoprene and Lycra ....

So if you want to make that thing go good get one of these

http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...o-3650&cat=148 And an airplane ESC of about 75 to 100 Amp. I use Castle. It will need to have some kind of metal body you can glue cooling tubes on ( see my post photo ) or be ready to go to a surface radio. With a 2 channel radio you can run a Y harnes and do 2 servos in one channel, if you don't have any servo mixing. Dude servo will need to be MG and around 150 or more oz.in. torque.
OSE has great props and the owner ( Steven ) is really helpful. I know you blew the kids collage fund on the new boat but you gotta be able to find some spare change under the sofa to get the Shark flying !!! 3 cell and you can jump from wake to wake, but watch out you will need to reinforce his legs or you will blow him off and brake his ankles. KH
Mahalo KH,
This is great info,

Dom,
Your Bro figures have always reminded me of someone.....now I know who - "Dick Brewer".........

Here are some pictures of my new 'slow build'.
Ready to install machine screws for deck lid.
Figure still needs to be laminated to deck & some finishing work
Next will be engine & prop shaft, water cooling & skeg/servo.

Using the miniature pipe cutter is very handy and also leaves a bevel around the
outside of the pipe which is good to avoid damaging the silicon water pipe when
slipping it over. The Du-Bro pipe bender is also a must to achieve a good bend
ensuring good flow.

I like to mount the water pipes against the side of the housing for added strength.
A good 'block' of epoxy is used to mount them in place to be 100% water tight.

I use a single inlet - outlet water cooling system - Inlet on the left and outlet on
the right - flowing to the ESC - then to the motor. Protrusion at least 10mm en-
suring good pick up.

Servo tray /mount - holes drilled to add extra bonding strength - I have had the
mount pop lose once or twice from a big air landing.

Fitting the steering push rod guide tube: also tucked against the side wall of the
housing for strength - out of the way - brass tube with a plastic tube within.

Epoxied in place as with the water cooling pipes - coated with coloured gel coat.

Board ready for a final fine sand - before two clear coats of resin to be applied for
a high gloss finish.
