Monday evening session : Squeezed in a very short 'late evening 'session - it was some what darker than in the video - could not see or film clearly !...although there was a good size swell running ......not the safest of places after sun set either....

Took some time out to build my younger son a FE F1 Tunnel Hull...the hull is one of my YPC designs and products...
Very happy with the first launch - water grass was fowling the skeg on the leg and we still dont have th eright prop size..

an interesting splurb on Jordy's board - listen out for the nose rocker explanation - big value in big nose rocker - more so with an rc Surfer !
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GxgE9URc5i0 I run 80 mm's of nose rocker - besides better riding out the hollows and mounting the white water - it certainly also helps with the fast/tight turns ....

Project 36"...3ft ...900mm's.....UP SIZE IT !
Have been receiving a number of requests over time to consider building the Bro rc Surfer range of boards in a 36" (900 mm) size. Personally, I have never felt the need for a bigger size board than the current 28" ( 700mm) - BUT - as they say "A change is as good as a holiday ! "..... and I'm up for another holiday, so ! no better reason but to give it a go !
The first two boards (a Shred'A and a floatér) are going to be built for an existing customer of ours, based in the UK - These boards will primarily be powered by Nimh Batteries ( 12s / 14.4 v's) - But ...I have taken the more now standard Lipoly batteries into the design consideration and plan to run the Lipoly boards on 6s / 22.2v's ( 2 x 3s packs, wired in Series)
The main reason for the 2 x 3s lipo packs is to keep the thickness of the board as thin as possible overall, so as to reduce its Buoyancy factor, both for self righting and general rail depth penetration surfing performance.
Briefly, looking at my self righting / rotational axis ( centre line) buoyancy formula: (L x B x H) / 2 x 1050 ( salt water density) if I built the board to accommodate a single 6s lipo pack (averaging 50 mm's in thickness) - the board would need to weigh as much as 6.15 kg's to be able to sink on its rail to the centre line in it's length, to assist the self righting function.
Whereas ! ...if a keep the board down to only 30 mm's thick ( the average thickness of a 3s lipo pack) the required weight to overcome the buoyancy will drastically be reduced down to only 3.7 kg's..A whole 2.45 kg's less...making the board far more efficient or run times and lighter for some big moves. Weight can easily be added if desired depending on conditions and riding desire - BUT - it's very hard to remove the need for weight, if the initial design DIMS demands it.
Running two packs in series also reduces the Amp draw down on each battery - allowing for lower C rated batteries to be used - and - its just easier on the batteries in general. Many folk also have 3s packs lying around - use them of many other rc models ( cars - planes - boats etc) - so it works well overall.
The 3s / 1500 kv (even 4s /1000kv ) packs will fit quite comfortably next to each other into the up sized housing - also adding the collective weight to lower the vertical CG further.
Up Sized drawings of new boards have been done - New templates to be cut out - Bigger high density blanks are being fabricated - AND - A new Bigger Bro is being created !!!!.......Looking forward to the progress of this project !

Wednesday Session !...took on some Chunky Winter swell ......the back-line was quite far out...making it difficult to see and film for most of the time - BUT - we managed a few good ones in the midst of it all..... a few frames from the video.

Big Bro !
Designing the Bigger Bro for the 36" board - wanting to achieve as close a relative scale size, without effecting the overall performance...once the 3D silhouette mould is made - ie - formed into the crouch/stance position - it will not be as tall .
Making a new Bro for the 28"as well - will be slightly taller than the current Bro - with a different stance.

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY TO ALL IN THE USA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have enjoyed a great week of rc Surfing - with the consistency of Winter surf in Cape Town I think I should start a rc Surf Holiday package ....
Thursdays session produced reasonably clean 3ft faces - plenty of face to carve on and a few tethering lips to shred ! ....STOKED !

Full set of 36" Templates done !..... for all three board models .....Let's get this PROJECT SUPER SIZE STARTED !
Interesting to note the relative overall size difference- rounded off at 30 % bigger - will be keeping the thickness the same (30 mm's)

Hello Guys Hope everyone is doing well. I now have two kyosho surfers. And they are working well. I want to mount a gopro camera on the surfer. Can anyone tell me which gopro to get and how to mount it on my board? Leash it?

Park- Any of the GoPros will work, best is to stick it on the nose right in front of the hatch and aim back. Leash is good and a float pad is good too. Just use the adhesive mount and it should stick well enough.
