onboard camera on an rc heli/plane during a boat race
This is strictly test footage at this time. The first idea was to get my onboard camera on a float plane, and chase the boats while flying slow and low. Well the camera's mounting position left much to be desired as it caused the plane to stall alot. Were going to mount it at the center of gravity and on the bottom of the fuselage next time.
The second part of the video was mounted on a .30 (i think) sized heli which had no problems with it being up on the nose. The heli pilot was kinda new and only held a hover for this footage, but were hoping to get some heli chase footage soon. There is a little vibrations from the heli, and the sound is a bit rough, but with a little music it would be just fine.

That's pretty cool. For a fixed wing, I think you would need a plane with super high lift and slow fly capability. Maybe mount your camera pointed down 45° from the normal angle of attack of the wing.
The heli footage was quite good, however if it is only going to hover you might just use a long pole with your camera mounted to it instead.

RE: onboard camera on an rc heli/plane during a boat race
nice clear video......... We plan on doing something similiar with video from our recent NW Offshore Championship race. (see Events, report in RC commmunity). We have some onboard footage and video taken from the shore but we wanted some arial footage just like the real offshore racing. One of the local Heli guys that does arial photography has agreed to give it a try. We were going to try it during the race but felt there was to much risk/hassle etc. so we are going out to 'stage' some boat action with 2-3 boats off of our pontoon boat 'the Nitro Barge' and hope to get some big water/air action. Then we will edit it in to the footage from the race to give it that live action look. Check out our site http://nwnitro*********.com for lots of pis and vids, more will be added in the next week or two. What camera were you using?
thx, cool...............

Cool and awsome video.
About the pole look at how big that lake is... even though it is just hover. 1. Mounting it on a heli is cool. 2. you need a hell of a pole he he.
