Cool Bro.
Btw thinkin youmaybe right about 'Sammy the Seal' being attracted to the surfers motor vibrations in the water... fish in distress vibrate differently (dogs frolicking in the waves or shoreline same) and to a shark or seal it may seem likean easy meal...
Right or wrong just sharin my 2c... again... lol

Howzit BC....I'm sure it has an attracting effect.....it happens so often when I am out surfing.

What Lisa-Marie and I are always on the 'look out' for when videoing, especially when Sammy the seal is around - is for Big Bad Johnny Shark to make an appearance !!!....Cemetery beach (in the heart of False Bay) is the Great Whites breeding ground......most of the Great White footage is filmed in FB.....off Cemetery Beach.
The island seen in the back ground in some of the video's is 'Seal Island' the great whites MacDonalds 'swim through - seal pups on the menu.....

Wouldn't it be way Cool filming a Great White breaching out the water and grabbing Bro' !!!!........that should go Viral........"******** attacked by Great White Shark !!!"

it's Been a SLOW WEEK ...in the workshop..... besides 'waiting' for components to arrive....we are back to our home school routine - and- the weather has been near freezing...impossible to do any resin work...feels like we have had an Ice-berg parked in the marina...Absolutely FREEZING COLD !

managed to finish up the F1 boat and OB leg destined for NY - owner wants fit all the hardware and apply his own extra color and decals ......this one will be a HVFE F1 ( High Voltage Fast Electric) Boat is 1.2 M long - 4ft.

I am still hoping to squeeze in a surf session or two over the weekend - some promise in the predictions......fortunately ! Bro has a 30mm neoprene suite....LOL I'll have to be very nice to Lisa-Marie to get her out in this Cold...LOL.......dinner and movies to-night - "Give it a year"...looks like a good comedy.

Community service !.......LOL...helping a good local mate of mine ( 'Kevin') build his very own "Ripper' ******** on the lines of the Shred'A'

Today's process was sanding down the laps and glassing the pod on .....all went well.....curing time !

At this rate: I might just offer Kev. a permanent position......what would one pay a ******** shaper glasser who has an Engineering degree......LOL

I'll have 'more time' to surf......LOL......speaking of which....bro is hoping to get wet this afternoon......hope the surf is UP !

Got to hit the beach for a brief session this arvi 1...clouds stayed back - allowed the sun to shine through for a while........man... I love the Sun !

Same old session - as always - simply great fun!.......love the sound track !....take Lisa-Marie and I down memory lane... happy thoughts...LOL...thanks Lenny K.

I just love the theatrics of the beach.....always a different stage....presenting different performers....
To-day we had the surf fisherman, patiently trying their luck at catching the 'big one' - kids inquisitively discovering in the sand - folk strolling mindlessly along the shore line - whilst - the "Simons Town Yaught club hosted a keel yaught regatta in the bay....with Bro adding his well rehearsed 'surf act' to the program...It was an awesome collective scene, for all to enjoy on a Winters day !.....

Hey Dom

Thanks for the help on Saturday. I am sure I speak formany when I saythat your willingness to share your knowledge and experience is a big help! Really enjoyed working on the 'Ripper' in your workshop/Shaping Room this week-end.

Looking forward to dropping in and stealing some of Bro's waves one of these days LOL

On the Employment front......based on my track record......7 months into my build and only just installed the POD...??

Enjoying the journey though of building my own RC Surfer.

Thanks Again

Kev

Hey Kev

Ripper lookin good and 7mths for me too (plus the previous year workin out how i wanted it...) and everything i wanted to do has now been adjusted slightly during the building... imo the time is in the mega thinkin of  'if i do this.. how will it affect this'... the whole board has to be thought out well before just glassin and cuttin hey.

Have never glassed before but luckily am learning lots without completely ruining the project... btw i noticed you have some tiny air bubbles in your pod to board glass... don't panic my air bubbles are like worm tubes.... LOL

Hey Dom....... Can see Lisa-Marie filmin a KevBrodown soon.... Bad boy Johny shark takin out the bro after kev slips a bit of meat unnoticed inside the battery compartment.... LOL

and yeh Dom thanks for sharin your stuff and pictures... wouldn't have taken this on without em.... bc

Hey Bear Cave

Thanks for the encouragement. I am pretty pleased with how the Ripper is turning out. Just mustn't mess it up from here.

Like the KevBroDown idea........especially the little snack for Johnny hidden nicely in Bro's boardhttp://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...eeth_smile.gifheh heh!

Keep building!

LOL...you two 'teamed up fast'....LOL....I like the 'meat idea'.....may just turn Bro into a Live lure for some hungry Johny Shark....all for a good video.....LOL

Love sharing the STOKE of it all BC...especially with pictures....hope this thread encourages many to build an ********...Your Bro is in the making - drive shaft set done !

A few Bro Hombre' photo's......been having uploading hassles: - after this one - we have another float'er for the UK....must be the great weather they are having

Hatch cover done - the battery inset is now a standard - Bro's core now having its feet fixing pads molded to the hatch cover profile - this is due to the battery inset hump on the hatch cover. I clamp the layers of carbon fiber to ensure no gaps and a tight corner. collectively 2 layers of fiber and 6 layers of carbon fiber in the lower leg. ( shins and ankles like a Kick boxer)

Always tak the motor mount plate and battery platform in place to ensure perfect aliment - before a permanent bond. I cant stress the importance of checking the trueness of the one piece production motor coupling shafts - I make my own to ensure perfect alignment.

The drive shaft is epoxied in place at the prop end within the pod using a fare amount of epoxy poured around the stainless steel end. At the motor end the stuffing tube is 'free' to have a small degree of movement to tolerate any vibration or misalignment....

RE: Bro rcSurfer's Custom Boards

Drive shaft housing end:
Solid Solid Stainless Steel Drive shaft housing assembly with a removable/serviceable brass bush.
This is a simple- easy assembly - Its important to be able to remove the bush often for cleaning and servicing - Sand is a killer to most any surfaces - mixed with grease - its great to be able to simply slide the bush out and clean it before greasing. I dint drill grease holes into the brass bush tube anymore as it becomes a sand trap.
The rim at the end of the brass bush tube prevents it from sliding up the stuffing tube. When inserted it fits flush with the Stainless Steel Tubes face fort the thrust washer to run against.

Water Cooling pipes:

Its IMPORTANT to ensure that the brass pipe ends onto which the silicon tubes slide are 'rounded' to avoid the brass tube from been cut by a sharp edge. This has been the demise of many a great ********. A small pipe cutter is a great tool and leaves a beveled edge.
The Dubro pipe bender is a must for this bend to be perfect - you don't want to kink the tube in the bend and limit the water flow.
I use the housing wall as a support for the 'tubing fixture' - run the pipes up the side - out of the way - to prevent any damage/stoppage.
Ensure that the pick up tube is on the side of the ESC - always cool the ESC first - then the motor.
Have at least 10 mm of reach beyond the hull surface....to much will cause unnecessary drag and pic up sand much easier in the shore - break.

Final 'Gloss Coat' on Hull:

I leave the final hull Gloss Coat until I have all the protruding appendages of the hull fitted. I leave the rudder tube extended as well. Reason being: so that I can pool the resin around the protrusion, for extra strength and a good seal.
Always ensure that the running surface of the hull is set level in width and length or you will have an uneven resin layer - effecting the performance of the board.
You can see the importance of the 'drip skirt' ....if it was not in place the excess resin would run 'around' the rail onto the opposite surface - Not what you want.
When the resin Kicks and becomes tacky - carefully remove the Drip Skirt....

When 100 % - time for some final sanding and polishing.

Haha bro...

Snuffy and commentater looked so cute had a feeling that something rouge was about to happen... lol

Btw i was wondering if you have any thoughts on this question....
On my boards the brass inlet/outlets tend to corode (salt water not like fresh water hey) and was thinkin of using stainless tubing... could be harder to bend but when fixed in place should last forever without the corrosion etching into the glass/glue fixing over time..

On the other hand when i scrape em over rocks etc brass would be easier to drill out and replace and being soft might not damage the hull so much either.

Anyway just a question, latest pics/info all good too btw.... bc

Howzit BC....my kids got such a fright !..LOL...I can relate to Snuffy....had a few moments like that 'in my life'.."just when you think you are sorted"...fortunately survived.

About the tubes - if you are getting corrosion around the tubes it means that moisture is getting in and around it. Stainless is perhaps better - but I doubt you would find a 'high quality' stainless tube in that size.
I reckon I have a good number of hours on my boards and the brass tubes are still 'good to go'
You should not hit anything 'directly' with the tubes - the Pod should protect them.

I do strip and wash my boards down every so often to remove all the salt build up in and around - its a quick exercise and worth it......especially if you don't want

Hoping to hit the Surf later this afternoon....its Cold - Off - Shore - 4ft face.....doable !

Have a great Weekend !

RE: Bro rcSurfer's Custom Boards

Thanks for the quick info Bro

The corrosion i get is over years... i clean and flush (not properly like you do but.. oops) but when the boards sit while innactive the green corrosion seems to be eating into the brass/plastic fixing point (nqd/kyo boards)... not  big issue inside the tube but thinkin it will eventualy weaken the tube to hull fixing joint....

Better glueing of tubes to hull and proper cleaning of such areas might be my answer then hey.... lol

Have a good weekend, stop scaring your children, beware of the seal eaters... lol
