Hi all,

I recently got my hands on two RC surfers NQD's, one is stock and the other has been modified.

I was going to get the modified one working however after spending some time pulling it apart its going to need a lot of filling to get it sealed so going to focus on the stock one.

The setup was a brushless outrunner turnigy 3500kv motor and what looks like a hobbyking water cooled esc.

Im interested on thoughts on whether i should put this configuration back in or swap to an inrunner and if so what size.

Also there was a modified prop shaft which was flexible however its pretty stuffed so probably wont use this.

Cheers,
Brett

My new surfer 3 took on water, help please suggestions?

Hi, I just bought a Surfer 3. I took it out the Surfer 3 for the first time and Apparently the seals to the deck and surfboard are not waterproof and now I have a surfer 3 that doesn't work.

I rinsed it outwith fresh water, air dry it with a high power fan and told by someone at hobbytown to cover it in rice to help dry it out. I just tried it now being a couple of days and the motor doesn't work. The receiver lights when I turn it on but the other piece that's covered up in plastic Receiver? May be bad or the motor??

i am new to Surfer 3 and now stuck? Will Hobbytown take it back? This is not right.

Any my suggestions on taking back? I like it but now I see others have had this problem and now I know to tape seal etc...

I just bought it. What to do to be able to get store credit for another. Any suggestions, bummer.
thanks Desi

Buy one on amazon

And return the bad one. They will send it on to distributer. And they will get their refund. Everyone is happy

Hi, is for the Kyosho RC Surfer a 16 Turn Motor sufficient? I want to go wave-riding as well.
I read here that 19-20 turns are necessary for the surfer.

Earlier this day I found this motor:

"Tacon 3650 - 16 T (2230 kV)"

It has great reviews and is actually made for on-road-cars.

The motor should be brushless, as it produces less heat and has greater efficiency.

The battery in this case will be 3 Stack Lipo, so we can achieve almost 25,000 rpm, what should be enough.

I am open for any other suggestions. A 60 amp ESC is available (as well as a 120 amp ESC, what we do not want to use, due to oversizing).

Anyone out there? I just got a well used BoardShark RC Surfer on Ebay. What are the recommended upgrades and fixes to get this RC Surfer to run well.

Thanks,

Wow, really detailed thread, love seeing the custom builds.

Anyone know what the deal is with availability of the Kosho RC Surfer? Seems like a batch is made and then sells out and becomes unobtainium? Are they too expensive or limited interest? Questionable quality? To fragile in the surf?

Normally, something like this is made for a limited duration run and, after that, if it's still selling, another smaller run will be made and sent to retailers. Since neither the retailer or manufacturer want to lose money, they will stop making and selling specialty items like this while they can still get money out of them. This is the same as the Pro Boat Miss Budweiser/Formula/Elam Plus boats that were sold several years ago. They extended their runs by changing the color scheme to the second and, later, third pattern to get maximum return from the molds.
