Yes, I got some more from there too.
I got 4 more of the 4.0.
I have 3 of them that work really well and another one went in the bin today.
I get really long run times compared to when I was using NiMh packs.
I have not timed them butthey seems to go twice as long, and I don't stop and wait at all, I just chase it flat out.
The 5.0 are slightly bigger and I was worried that the 4.0 just fit the standard tray anyway and also I didn't like the couple of comments made in the review section.
I know that you have got plenty of room, I really like the tray job you did.
I hope they continue to work well for you.
Do you get ANY water intrusion at all???

I really don't get my water intrusion problem because when I tub test in the bath there is never any problem.
When I hit the surf it alwaysgets in.
Maybe the fact that I use tight o-rings and have very little movement in the Dude is causing the deck to flex.
I dunno.
It is really pissing me off.
Sea ya Dude.

Some Fun Facts:

That Kyosho Is On Auction, And The Starting Bid is $299, Not The Selling Price.

We Have A Kyosho Offered ( [link=http://www.surfcurls.com]on our site[/link]) at $450 Selling Price, And Is Not An Auction...

Jimi Is Not Running A Kyosho Lisa (yet) But a NQD Lisa.

Well you would never guess what happened next.
My stepdaughter had parked her car halfway across the driveway and I had seen it there.
Chucked a board in and forgot the car was there.
Reversed into it and smashed my tail light and scraped alll along the bumper.
Scratched her drivers door and smashed her mirror to pieces.
Some days you wish you had just stayed in bed.
Don't really feel like going to the beach now.

Yes, the board on ebay is an auction.
Yep, I am still using NQD's at the moment., but not for much longer.

Maui John,
No I am not upset at all, I love your boards and videos and all your comments.
True, I have nearly totally given up hope on the NQD copies altogether.
Seb can make the copies stay dry and work well.
Mine surf pretty well but.....

As soon as the brass rudders arrives from Barrels I will be testing the Kyosho Lisa.
The hull is ready to go.
I will be using mynew coupler and flexi insert propshaft and 7.4 LiPo's and a carbon Dude.
Geez I hopeI have better luck with keepin' that dry than I have had withthe copies.
After that I will be starting on the Original RC Surfer Project.

I believe Spencer did use the original Kyosho RC Surfers on the video.
That video is still so cool and inspiring, even if it is several years old.
I wonder if Spencer is still at it?
I certainly hope he is!!!

I certainly will be ordering a board building video in the near future.

After having done all the improvements and modifications listed in this thread an NQD Lisa is ready to surf for approx. 150-200,- Eurosincl. brushless motor & ESC.
What's the advantage of a Kyosho surfer after all?

So I now have a Kyosho thruster to test.

Only problem is, the glue on those expensive seals that I got sent from John Curlz a while back has perished and the seals won't stick down for more than a couple of seconds.

I guessthey must be old stock.

I have asked him to reimburse me for the 2 Kyosho seals he sent me.
I am sure he will.

The seals for the NQD are fine.

I will have to go down to Clarke Rubber and source some from there or maybe online.

Guess I won't be testing the "Thruster" just yet after all!!!

Reimburse you Yes, !

Kyosho Old Stock No !
The Rolls of seal that came in are perfect.
Not sure what happened...

Like I Wrote you,
Did you paint the inside of the board, and not sand The seal edge before setting the seal ?

Did you install the deck lid after setting the seal to actuate the glue ?

Try The NQD Bottom Seal you have, it should fit the kyosho lisa.

You Know We Have The Best Seals, and They never stay too long in the shop.
As you know, I am The deck seal, nose guard, xt pro, shark gear, King !

I did not paint the inside of the hull.
Yes, it is sanded around the sealing edge and dust is cleaned off propelytoo.
Yes, I did screw the deck down and left it for a week while I was doing other things.
When I took the deck offthe seal just lifted.
So I tried the second one today and it was not sticking down either.
I don't have any problem like this with the NQD seals ever.
So I dunno.
The seals are just not very sticky like the NQD ones you sent.

So I guess, of courseit is my fault, If YOU say so buddy.

RE: RC Surfer

Jimi,

Go to Clarke Foam and Rubber and buy some stick on neoprene from there, it's cheap, effective and is extremely sticky!

I buy 5mm x 5mm (soft) for the deck lid (fits in perfectly) and 3mm x 20mm (hard) for the deck and cut it into 7mm strips with a ruler and blade.

If you have sanded the area where there seals go, then I recommend to get some fiberglass filler resin and brush a thin layer over the sands area and once dry it will be super smooth and the neoprene strips will stick to it well.

Trust me, once they are stuck down they are not going anywhere!!!

Hello John,
I know you are pissed off with me right now because I wrote about my seals on the blog.

However, I am more than happy with the rest of the equipment that I have bought from "Surfcurls" this year.
Your service has been excellent and the parts have been delivered quickly.

I know at first glance the Kyosho seal seems to be sticky but if you do a comparison test as I did with the offcuts last night you will see that there is a problem.

Simply cut off a half inch piece of each seal type and compare the difference in adhesiveness, then roll them around in your fingertips a couple of times and see for yourself that they are not any where near the same.

I am only writing this so that you can know for yourself that I am not mistaken on this.

This will save you the hassle of other customers who may order the Kyosho seals and be unhappy with the quality of the product that you send out.

Please do the comparison test and let me know what you find.

If you are totally honest about this I know that you will find my problems have been caused by the product and not my preperation.

It is certainly not "Surfcurls fault if the product you have been sent is not up to the standard required.

It is "Surfcurls" fault however if you have been informed about the problem and continue to deny the situation and lay the blame on your customers.

Especially your customers who spend a lot of money with you and are otherwise happy to continue to promote your service to the industry.

Simply switching to "Damage Control Mode" is not the solution here.

A more thorough assessment of the allegations I have made will reveal that I am correct and that you need to remove that product and replace it with one that can pass the test.

Please don't blame your customers, blame the supplier of the faulty product.

When you have found that what I am saying is true then perhaps you could apologise for blaming me and send the faulty seal back from whence it came.

Then I will be happy continue to promote "Surfcurls" products in my region.

Thanks.
Jimi

P.S, Did you use any type of remover chemical when you pulled
out the original seal to remove the old glue ?

RE: RC Surfer

John (curly),

It's been over 2 years since you posted any video footage of you RC Surfing, with a quiver of 100 boards and just as many dudes, you must have something to post for us to see?

Guys, take your girlfriends out to dinner or to the movies, buy some damn flowers or whatever they want and collect those brownie points and use them to get her to go to the beach with you and film you surfing.

WE NEED MORE VIDEOS!

John (Maui), I can't remember the last time I saw the ocean as clean as what it is in your vids, almost a month of non stop onshore winds is seriously doing my head in!

Goggs, Get someone to film you at that spot you surf, it looks like such a great wave and some footage would be appreciated by all I am sure!

For those who do not have someone to film them, build a helmet cam, while it is not as good as having someone film you, it's still damn good to get that awesome wave on video even if it is not a close up shot! If anyone wants help building one, just ask.

There are a few non-modified surfer vids popping up on YouTube, but seriously they are painful to watch. I would have posted another vid last week, but conditions here are so bad it is not worth getting out of bed for. There must be someone out there who has a cam, a loyal girl and is not experiencing onshore crap every damn day.

Seb

Ya Seb, It Has Been A While...

And Curly Is Fine Without John Attached. Its A Cool Nickname You Gave Me
And Reminds Me Of The THREE STOOGES !

Unfortunatley For me, I Dont Have Much time to Rc Surf.
And When I Do, It's an escape Attempt, sort of.
Here In So Cali, It's hard to find a Decent break without masses of people
in the water, on the sand Etc. We Bring A customized Beach Wagon with 4 surfers on it,
and a box full of batts to run. We Get Bombarded With Questions As Soon As we park.

Imagine How Many Times People Ask You About What, Where And How Much.
Then Multiply it for me The Moment they see our Rig Being Set Up...

My Favorite Sessions have been near sunset or dawn patrol, empty tunnels,
no crowds on the sand, and just me and the surfer hitting it.

Running a RC Surfer Is A Blast, Running A RC Surfer Company
Takes A Lot Of Time, But This Hobby Sport Needs Product Support
Which was My Intention from Day 1, Since I Wasn't Able To Find Any When I Started RC Surfing...
