RE: USS Missouri Build

Hi,
New to the forums and using your plans for my build.
Not trying to be a pain, but just a suggestion if your going for the hull to be the same as the real thing, you can get the original blueprints to the actual U.S.S. Missouri here: http://www.ussmissouri.com/documents/blueprints.pdf
if you use those as a guide and a french curve to help then you'll probably end up with a very close representation. Might as well use the real thing if your going for accuracy, only problem I have with my plans is that I haven't gotten to the point where I need to figure out how to skin the hull properly with the changes and I will probably need help when the time comes. I have also found this build as a pain partially because I stated to rework the plans when I was just about finished the hull frame. That and I don't get a lot of time to work on it with school, work and sports.
Thanks

you probably didn't get far back enough to see my post about the hulls. One of the Warship firms makes the fiberglass hull for the Sterling USS MO. They are pretty close to the real thing and for a 100 bucks or so, that's the way I'm going. In fact, I got 3 of them made last year. Takes the hassle out of building up that balsa hull, then trying to fiberglass over it! Dave

I built the sterling Missouri years ago, see where the pics are and post. I did go with the fiberglass hull though, the kit by itself was a pain in the ass lol. Did some upgrades, painted a bunch of n scale train guys as sailers and some other items, also added a sound module too.

<span style="font-size: medium">Howdy Folks, Long time no hear from.

I am STILL working on the ship, but not so much. Kinda thinking of abandoning the project. Too many other irons in the fire.

So, the question is.....does anyone ever buy Missouri Kits that have been partially completed (about 80%)?

I know I wouldn't, but I hate to have her end up in the dust bin. I simply don't have the time, patience or money to complete it. And while holding that thought, how would one ship something a delicate as this?

RE: USS Missouri Build

All the Iowa class ships received the same basic upgrades before being recommissioned:
Removal of the aft two 5" twin mounts on each side
Removal of the float plane crane on the stern
The addition of a helipad on the stern and the facilities to support flight operatons thereof
A full upgrade of communication, radar and ECM equipment
Reconfiguring the aft part of the superstructure and the mounting the missile launchers

As for the 20 and 40mm flack guns, they were removed when the ships were mothballed after WWII so they weren't on the ships when they were updated. Something else that was left alone was the fire control system. Beyond upgrading the radar systems, the fire control was left as originally built. The Navy felt that the system worked as well as anything they could replace it with so it was left alone. As far as I know, the four ships were taken out of service and left in their latest configuration, three of the four now being museums, the fate of the Iowa still undecided as she was sitting at anchor with what's been referred to as a ghost fleet north of Oakland. As stated, the Missouri is at Pearl Harbor, the Wisconsin is in Norfolk Virginia and the New Jersey(I think) is in New Jersey, though I'm not sure exactly where

O.K., I quit.

I do not have the time nor space to complete this project.

Kit is about 80% finished, and not expertly at that. I have already purchased the motor for same and have multiples of the hardware (little lead/pewter parts) for it.

I am a bit leery of shipping it anywhere as it (as you know) is a delicate item.

If any of you are interested in coming to the Northern Virginia area to pick it up and have a few bucks to spend (Make offer) it's yours.

Hey Ken...wasn't there one where the guy actually sat totally inside the boat. May not have been a MO, but some other ship.
