Default Picco 12R C Speed

A buddy is donating a nice Picco 12R C Speed engine to my HPI MT. It is a bump start engine and I was wondering if there was a back plate pullstart combo I could buy for it so I don't have to deal with a bumps box. Click image for larger version

Probbly not. Many engines for buggy (bumpstart engines) never were designed for pullstart/rotostart duty. Therefore they won't likely have ever made a crankshaft for using a pullstart with. Yes, you would need a new crankshaft, backplate, one-way bearing, and pullstart. Which HPI MT would you put this .12 into?

There are engines yet were made in bump as well as pull start versions. Usually the race engines (often designated with "R" in the model didn't come with a pullstart offered. Given the engine you pictured appears to be a 12R with a pullstart, it would appear they did offer it in both configurations. Here's the caveat. Pullstart and bumpstart engines often have different crankshaft timing and sleeve timing - bump engines always make more power than pullstart engines.. Moreover the two WILL have different crankshafts. You will need a pullstart crank, backplate, one-way clutch bearing, starter shaft, and a pullstart to convert your bumpstart engine.

You could try asking around RCTech if someone might have the parts you need. If anyone would have parts, it would be someone there or look on eBay.

You do know that if you are going to use a bump start engine with this car that you will likely have to use a different motor mount and flywheel. Most RTRs pull starts use smaller flywheels and taller motor mounts. I ran into this problem with a TTR ebr4 s2 that had a pull start engine in which bit the dust I replaced it with an OS engine and bought a new flywheel and motor mount. Just somthing to think about be for you get to money in it. My 2 cents enjoy
