It's not like the Slash 4x4's cheap 2.4g radio is a multi-model radio, and this way he can actually learn how to drive instead of relying on 4wd and just bashing his way around the track.

I have the truck version of the buggy you are looking at (rc10t4.1) And I love it. I literally pulled it out of the box, put in a charged battery, and placed second in the A-main without ever having drove it before. Awesome. Can't go wrong with the buggy you are looking at. Buy with confidence. Feel free to check out my profile.

Cool, thanks Turbo!  Is the B4.1 really that much slower than the Slash 4x4?  I'm surprised to hear that.  I figured it would be close to the same?  I clocked my Slash at 32.4mph stock.  This is a cool debate.  I like learning what everybody's input is on this subject.  Like I said before, it's tempting to get another 4WD, but the 2WD is a lot more tempting it seems.  First off, I've already got a 4WD so it would be fun to learn how to drive the 2WD and the cost is a major difference.  Plus the B4.1 is a proven sure bet so that helps a lot as well.  I've owned a 2WD buggy, but neither one was a race level buggy.  I think one of them was about 15 years ago.  It was a Cox kit that my dad got for me for Christmas and we assembled it together.

The B4 should clock about 30ish bone stock. The motor can stand to be geared a little taller from the couple ThunderbirdJunkie has seen run, but it's a nice buggy overall for an RTR.

That 5700 is going to be overkill for a track, stick with the 4600 combo, and if you wanted to, you could get a sidewinder 4600 combo to for $120(NO, not the sct, the original one)

Yeah, which is why Ireccomend going with the Factory Team Edition, because you said you already have a radio and reciever, you'll probably still switch out that motor and esc because it will be to slow for you and the track, and then your left to buy the servo, but I thought the included one was good since it was a MG servo, but it fried on the 4th run. SO you might as well get the Factory Team version with all the hop-ups

Wow, 22.7mph?  Why is it so much slower than the Slash?  I think my Slash has the Velineon 3500 and it does over 32.  The B4.1 comes with a 3300 so I wouldn't have thought it would drop 10mph?  Crazy stuff!  LOL.  Is there a Factory Team version of the B4.1 RTR?

Ok I'm thinking the RTR B4.1 with an upgraded motor would be my best bet.  Here's another question for you guys.  I googled "Castle Creations 4600" and it gave me 3 different options.  The Sidewinder, The Mamba Max and the Mamba Max Pro.  What are the differences between these motors and what would be best for this Buggy?

My t4.1 Is considerably faster than 22 mph. R/C Driver magazine did a review ( July 2010 issue) and clocked it at 27 mph on a 6 cell 4200 mah pack. With the bone stock setup, a 7.4 volt 20c Lipo battery and on a carpet track (and the slipper locked down) my BONE STOCK t4.1 will wheelie all the way down our front straight. The quality of your battery makes a huge difference in performance of an electric vehicle. I have zero complaints about the power of my truck and the buggy should be faster because it is lighter. I would highly recommend you try the RTR before you swap out engine components. Especially if you plan on racing it on a dirt track. It is much more difficult to drive a 2wd than a 4wd on dirt. If you master the buggy, you will be a much better driver than you were. Too much power on a dirt track can make a car miserable to drive.Trust me on this one.

I read a review that a guy put on a different forum and he bought the Team Associated B4.1 RTR and had good and bad things to say about it.  He said it was a good buggy right out of the box, but that he broke/bent the turnbuckles after just 5 packs and that the servo was noticably slow.  Have any of you that own this buggy/truck had these issues?

I can confirm that, Ionce broke my bulkhead and bent my turnbuckle in a soft crash, the turnbuckles are butter... Another reason why Ireccomend the Factory Team B4.1. AND, Iwould consider that guy lucky that his servo was slowing down after his 5th run, mine fried on the 4th...Trust me, for the long run, go with that B4.1 Factory Team with a Castle Creations Sidewinder 4600 kv combo

That's strange. Becuase RCCar Action reported that with a 3 Cell (11.1) Lipo, you can expect speeds of 40+ mph with the buggy, now, that is just one cell short of doubling what you are running. On the traxxas trucks, do that type battery increase along with some gears, and you will go from 35 mph to 70 mph. Literattly doubling the speed with going from a 6 cell(35 mph) to a 3 Cell Lipo(70 mph).

You really don't need the Mamba Max Pro unless you really like the way it looks, the Mamba Max would be OK, but still a little to much, if you go with the Sidewinder, that would work perfectly in it. If you plan on programming your ESC, then go with the Mamba Max since it already includes a USBcable for the ESC, I know a place that sells the Sidewinder 4600 for $120, and the Mamba Max for $155. Just say which one you want..

PS. That Mamba Max Pro is used to power vehicles almost 3x as heavy as what you are looking at... you really dont need to get that.

How much is it to upgrade the turnbuckles and bulkheads?  Also, how much is an upgraded servo?  Thanks!

Well if I get the B4.1 RTR and end up replacing the motor/esc with the CC Sidewinder 4600 as well as upgrade the servo and turnbuckles/bulkheads.  Would it be much more just to get the B4.1 Factory Team kit?  I would need a transmitter if I just used the radio from my 2.4ghz Slash 4x4.  This is probably a stupid question, but if I were to go that route, would I need to buy a traxxas transmitter to match my traxxas radio?  Would I just get the same one that is in my Slash?  Thanks guys.

Ok, I seem to have gotten the transmitter and receiver backwards! LOL!  I have the transmitter from my Slash 4x4 so I would need a new receiver for the FT B4.1.  Which one would I need to get?  The one from Traxxas like the one I have in my Slash?  Also, what tooth pinion should I get for the CC Sidewinder 4600?

Well, after some digging I found that you can get the Factory Team kit from Tower Hobbies for just $209 if you use a $50 off coupon code that I got sent in the mail today!  That makes the Factory kit $409 and the RTR (hopped up) $420.  I guess it's pretty obvious that if your planning on upgrading the stuff that needs to be upgraded on the RTR, it's a lot better deal to get the Factory Team

ThunderbirdJunkie would recommend a Futaba 3305, which is about 35 bones anywhere you go, so you pretty much nailed the servo price right on the head[&:]

Cool thanks man.  I found that servo on Tower Hobbies and it says under the description that it is approved for nicd batteries only?  Would it be okay with nimh and lipo?  Also, do you know the answer to my question about the receiver?

Kalani, it's a servo that's been around for a while...they put that on there back when NiMh receiver packs for nitro cars were less than 1000mah.

It'll be great for whatever application you want to run it with nowadays.

if you ever hit the track you will find that 22ish mph is not slow. plus it's also important how fast you can get up to 20+ mph.

acceleration and braking are more important then top end.

i also advise you to go with a factory team b4.1 or t4.1. awesome vehicles.

So the biggest battery packs this car will take for Nimh is a 6 cell?  I have 7 cell packs for my Slash so I guess those won't work.  Oh well, I need to upgrade to Lipo anyways   How do you anchor down the components while building the kits?  I noticed the kit trays don't have screw holes like my Slash does?
