Default Storing nitro

My one and only nitro RC, a nitro sport, blew it's motor about a week ago. I have a gallon of nitro that has about 3 quarts left. I will not be getting another nitro untill spiring and I am not fixing my nitro sport it has way too many problems. How long does nitro last. Is there a special way to store it?

Cap the jug tightly, toss it in a dark, relatively dry spot that's got stable temps, and it should be good.

Right now it's inside of cabinet in my garage.

hmm im not too sure about temperatures in NC, i would guess it gets a little chilly in the winter? i would just put it in the basement to be safe form moisture/ elements. The fuel will be just fine for the spring so dont worry about it

[link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_5517128/mpage_1/key_/tm.htm]This thread[/link] has a section in the first post that talks about nitro storage.

I have another fuel related question. Is there a way to tell if the fuel is bad? (other than the fact that your engine may not run well when using it)

Not really. I discarded about a pint or so of my Byron's because I saw a crack in the jug. My nose said that fuel was fine, but the crack in the jug combined with the erratic and unstable idle and drop in power running on what was in my squeezy bottle told me the fuel was bad.

As 378 said except purge as much air as possible from the jug before capping it. Stored properly nitro can last for a year or more so you should be good to go next spring.

I did forget to mention that.

Yeah the crack that formed in my Byron's jug was because I had squeezed out as much air as I could. On hindsight I probably should have cleaned out a 20oz coke bottle and transferred.

I live in NC, have had nitro stored in my garage in a cabinet for roughly 4 years. Ran my buggy about a week ago with no problems. Just keep cap tight, off the ground in dark and it will be fine.

Yeah like 10 degrees at the coldest. Right now we're havinga crazy warm spell so i guess that I don't have to worry about it now.

Sounds like you did a # on it. I have a couple old pro .15 parts i thought you might be able to use if it was something simple, and I do think i have a block, but if it seized as well, then im not sure it would be worth the trouble.

Thanks for your kindness, but I think that the motor is toast, in fact the car is literally falling apart! I'm just going to get it off my hands while I can. Maybe try to rcover some of my losses and buy a castle ESC and brushless motor set up for my slash. In the spring I plan on purchasing a ofna Hyper 7 buggy, which hopefully will be a lot more fun than my Nitro sport was.
