Dunno about the Traxxas cars, but they always meet or beat online prices for ThunderbirdJunkie on any car he wants. Pretty sure their Stampede 4x4 is $400 or something like that. It's either 399.99 or 405 bucks...it's within 10 dollars of 400 though.

One local shop here price matches and is doing very well. The other feels they don't really need your business and charges Mfg suggested retail or higher. The Tamiya Avante 2011 was marked $749.99 and a a re-re sand Scorcher was $509...
The last Slash I looked at was a 4x4 and they wanted $495.... Clearly they don't sell hardly anything unless someone completely uninformed walks in the door.

RE: What does your LHS charge?
that's the way my hobbytownusa is. they have pretty high prices on most stuff, but still manage to do great businnes since my LHS (even though alot cheaper) is almost unhear-of (its a small locally owned shop ran by an old guy who loves RC, so they really don't advertise or anything!)

RE: What does your LHS charge?
Yep, most of my LHS (HobbyTown, RC Hobbies and Hobby People) charge what is on the Traxxas website or what Tower and Horizon Hobby charge, with one exception: Ampdraw Hobbies. I am in SoCal and when I bought my Losi Ten T, most places around me had a price of $499.99 plus tax. That puts it just about $536 and change out the door. Amdraw had it for $454.99 and that came to $489.00 OTD. They are usually 10-50 bucks cheaper on Traxxas stuff too. The guy behind the counter told me that they can do that because they buy direct from the companies instead of a broker because they sell through their website too. Hobby Town and RC Hobbies do not. Still, they had it for $454.99 at a shop in Florida and I almost got it from them. Since there is no tax to me from them and $25.00 shipping, it would have been 10 bucks less from them than Ampdraw, however, I didn't want to wait 10 days for the ground shipping so paying the extra 10 bucks was ok. I usually buy cars from Tower Hobbies because of their EZ Pay program, but unfortunately they don't sell Losi stuff because they are a Horizon Hobby affiliate.

RE: What does your LHS charge?
My race track keeps the kits and RTR prices about the same as most of the websites. The parts and basic needed maintenance things is what has the markup. Shock oil, diff oil, and motor cleaner is always higher.

these things are expensive considring its just a bunch of moulded plastic a couple servos, a motor and a controller.
my shop charges about what tower does, but tax in illinois is over 8% (gas is $4.10-$4.40)
