Anyone notice that CL brings out the dumbest people?
Just to test the waters and see what people would offer, I put my Baja on Craigslist offering to trade it for electric or nitro RCs (notice I amsaying plural)and my phone has been ringing non-stop all day.
Here are some of the offers:
-One guy offered to trade 2 T-Maxx's that were bothincomplete andthey were missing the same parts so combining them wasn't an option.
-One guy had 16 Brushless SCTs but he didn't know if he wanted to trade any ofthem so he wanted me to drive 4 hours away to show him the Baja.
-One guy offered a Losi Strike ( Come on, an $1100 rc buggy for theworst RC ever made. Its a good deal, right?)
-One guy wanted it today, but when we met he didn't have any money orRCs to trade.
-3 People called justto talk about theBaja but wereneverinterested.
-One guy called just to talk about stuffnot even RC related.
-2 people offered Duratrax Evaders (one of them even included spare sets of tires).
-One guy offered a Rustler that was almost ready.
-I got one offerfor a whole slew of those small customizable RadioShack cars.
-2 people offered me boxes of spare parts for cars I don't andhave neverowned.
-One guy offered me parts for the Baja ( Not quite sure about this one as the Baja is the one I had up for trade).
I am sure that this list will keep growing as I am going to keep the ad up tomorrow to see if I can draw out ALLthe crazy people in Michigan.

I find it's just human nature for people to think their stuff is worth a fortune and your stuff is junk.
I stick with EBay to sell anything and will never do CL again.

I like my Baja and am not really trying to sell it but I would definitely trade it if the right offer came around.

You're obviously not the first to have this problem. I can't post it here as it violates our rules, but if any of you over 18s wish to google 'craigslist blocks', you'll find a very funny screenshot of a craigslist post that has become famous around the internet as a demonstration of what awaits you if you advertise on CL.

RE: Anyone notice that CL brings out the dumbest people?
About 2 years ago, my son advertised his 3 year old KTM MX bike on Kijiji (similiar to CL). He didn't mention trades, however he was offered them.
He was offered to trade for another bike which was stated as being in perfect condition, but had a cracked transmission/engine case. He was offered a trade for a 1992 Ford 150 2WD (where we live, that means serious rust). He was offered a Nitendo with games. And there were other non-attractive offers.
Bascially, these people are smart enough to want to trade up, and hoping you're stupid enough to do it. Trades are too often a pig in a poke. I suggest sticking to cash transactions.

He said he saw the ad on CL and then proceeded to talk about his job, the city we live in and video games. I kept waiting for him to ask about the Baja but he never did. It was the kind of conersation where you couldn't get a word in edgewise. I hung up on him and he kept calling back. I eventually answered again and told him to stop calling.

That is one of the funniest thing I have ever read on the net.

RE: Anyone notice that CL brings out the dumbest people?
ThunderbirdJunkie posts his flip cars on CL and his grandfather's yard, and only CL and his grandfather's yard. Every time he posts one, it's gone within a day.
The Paseo ThunderbirdJunkie sold a while back was listed a whole six hours. And it only lasted that long because 2 hours after parking the car at Grampa's he took a nap, and woke up 4 hours later to a voicemail from a guy that had called 3 hours prior saying "I want that Paseo. I stopped at the address listed and checked it out. I have cash in hand."
didn't even quibble over the asking price.
Had to return a few calls and emails, too.
One guy:
"I would've given you $1200 for it"
"But I got my full asking price"
"yeah but you could've had it gone sooner"
"I could've had it gone sooner had I not taken a nap, because that guy called hours before you."
"Yeah but you could've had it gone even quicker"
"Are you stupid?"
"F.... you dude"
"No, thanks"
Of course, there was also another event surrounding a flip car.
"So what's your asking price?"
"It's clearly listed on the windshield in three-foot-high numbers"
"What's your bottom dollar?"
"Wave cash in my face. But I have a guy that said he's going to come get it later, so I told him I'd wait two hours for him."
"I'll give you $1300 (was asking $2200...already accepted a $1900 offer from the previous guy)"
*other guy pulls up*
HEY, i gotcher money, got the title?
"Yup, here"
"K here's money. count it"
*count money*
"It's all here, thanks man"
"Thank you dude, have a good one"
then the other jackass CONTINUED to quibble about the price of the truck.
"It's sold. Thanks for your interest"
"But I didn't buy it"
"No, you didn't."
"I didn't even have a chance to buy it"
"No, because your offer was not cash in my face."
"You're full of it"
"No. I'm going home. Later dude."
Next day gramps calls.
"Eric, some guy is here asking about that SUV thing you had in the yard for a couple days."
"Does he look like a cross between Steve Buscemi and Ted Nugent?"
"Is that the gangster movie guy and the loincloth rock 'n' roll guy with long hair?"
"Yes"
"Hmm. I suppose he does."
"Tell him to get lost, truck's gone"
"he tells me that you're just playing games?"
"Truck's sold, gramps, tell him that"
"He doesn't believe you"
"Is it in the yard?"
"No"
"Ask him"
"He says you're hiding it"
ThunderbirdJunkie had to show upand chase this guy off.
Selling stuff can be a pain in the ass.

I sell r/c airplane equipment. When I used to have a 800 toll free ordering phone number, I would get two or three calls a week with people telling me about their planes, kids, personal problems, everything except ordering and spending money with me. When I eliminated the 800 number and the phone call was on the customer's quarter, suddenly all I received were phone orders! Amazing!

RE: Anyone notice that CL brings out the dumbest people?
The problem is not just with Craigslist, or buyers or sellers! I've not dealt with anyone on Craigslist, but have
dealt with people on RCU and EBAY. I have been ripped off on both sites. I'm a buyer and not a seller and I
have noticed that even sellers think their stuff is gold! I have entered into trades on RCU only to be screwed
and never recieve the item I traded for. I have payed for stuff on EBAY with cashiers checks and never recieved
items! It's not only buyers that try to screw you, the sellers do a pretty good job also! The jerk on RCU was kicked
off RCU, but that doesn't help me or the other people he screwed! I've pretty much given up buying anything off of RCU or EBAY!

RE: Anyone notice that CL brings out the dumbest people?
Reputation on EBay is extremely important, and the best sellers will have extensive positive feedback. I cannot emphasize two things enough when it comes to buying on Ebay: Check out a sellers feedback rating, AND what the terms are on their auctions. It is the buyer's responsibility to read the auction completely and know about shipping costs, returns, guarantees, shipping times, etc. Ebayers with the best repuations will have this spelled out clearly and distinctly on their auctions. If you cannot find it on the auction, email them and ask them. The best Ebayers will be happy to spell it out for you. If not, don't bid on items listed by this seller.

RE: Anyone notice that CL brings out the dumbest people?
I always did pay complete attention to the auction details, shipping costs, return policies, etc.
My only problem was when I never recieved the item and the seller would not communicate
with me about it! After you get stung a few times, you get a little gun shy!
