RE: $1000
If you're new to the RC scene, I'd go 1/8th nitro buggy. OFNA products are good. If you are comfortable with slightly more complex machinery, a HPI Savage (nitro) can be a lot of fun.
With the buggy, it will work well right out of the box, although a stronger steering servo is a typical upgrade. With the Savage, your choices of upgrades, modifications, and general personalization, are virtually endless (plus hearing that 3-speed shift twice has a significant "cool" factor...LOL).

RE: $1000
on second thought maybe an 8ight-t or a savage or mgt, guess it would come down to what was in stock, so it would be one of the following
Associated MGT 8.0
HPI savage 5.9
Traxxas Revo 3.3
Associated RC8T
Losi 8ight-t
Would be a very tough decision because I hve no nitro right now

Hrm...
1: Baja 5B(Yes, I know it's gas, but it's still fuel powered)
2: Slayer + Revo gearbox + FS26C or FS30 converted to car use. Either engine would end up with a pull start.
3: SC8 + FS40C-SX + supercharger
4: AE MGT 8.0 + FS40C-SX
5: Savage X-SS + reverse module + 3-speed + AR6110E receiver + FS40C-SX
6: Tamiya Globe Liner + the necessary parts to convert it to glow
7: Kyosho Mad Force + OS 21 of some sort
You're missing out on so much awesome, my friend.

+1. I'd probably go for a truggy.
You do realize that he purposely uses bad grammar and spelling, right? Not to mention the fact that his ''contribution'' to this specific thread was two posts about how he wouldn't buy a nitro vehicle. Also, the Savage Flux is not a nitro vehicle.

i didn't realize he did that on purpose, ignore what i wrote. sorry jermpool. i also didnt read the post properly, as far as nitro, well it all depends on what your into i guess. my favourites are monster trucks and truggy's. the savage x 4.6 is a pretty stout little truck and offers lots of fun for under 500 bucks.

RE: $1000
In this hobby a grand is not much at all, especially when you have a family and mortgage payment and something breaks on your car and it kills you to have to wait for payday to get it back up and running <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< been there so many times.... Heres another one, someone just dropped a wod of cash and you pick it up, your an rc enthusiast, do you give it back, or do you go straight to the hobby store?

As far as someone dropping a wad of cash, it's not yours, so give it back. Too easy.
